Due to an unfortunate mishap this thread just suffered I now have to post this thing all over again. :rolleyes Anyways I was going to list all the things I know from reading the book of Samuel so far being that Saul changed his name to Paul, but for_his_glory started telling me that that was a totally different Paul,.. so I'm really curious what the rest of what you were going to tell me was.

Here's the other things that I understand about them.

. David faced Goliath
. Saul was an evil man that killed many men.

However, I'm not really sure what else there is if he isn't the one who repented of his sins and changed his name to Paul. :confused

The Saul in the book of 1 Samuel is not the same Saul/Paul we read about in the NT. Here is an outline that might help you understand the Saul of 1 Samuel.

1 Samuel 9:1, 2 Son of Kish, Saul was the first king of Israel
1 Samuel 9:3-14 Seeks his father's asses
1 Samuel 9:16-27 Meets Samuel
1 Samuel 10:1-16 Anointed as king
1 Samuel 14:47-52 Victories and family
1 Samuel 17:1-58; 18:6-13 Fights against the Philistines, becomes jealous of David
1 Samuel 18:14-30 Promises his daughter to David
1 Samuel 19:1-24 Seeks to kill David
1 Samuel 23:1-28 Pursues David
1 Samuel 26:1-25 His life spared by David
1 Samuel 31:1-6 Defeated, commits suicide
1 Samuel 31:7-13 Burial of Saul

Thank you, I can understand the NKJ version a lot better then the KJV, but there are still a lot of big words in it that I don't understand. :/

Personally I'm not fond of the NIV, but it might help you understand in a simpler English. You are not alone with understanding big words as even I have to look up what they mean some times.

I get the basic idea though and what's NIV? Don't you mean NKJ?

NIV - New International Version. It's been around for years as it's more of our own English language the way we speak, but yet I prefer the KJV as I'm not crazy about all these newer Bibles.

Saul in the old testament is not the same as the Saul in the new testament. There are parallels between the two of them apart from their names. Both had knowledge of God, both heard from God through prophets. Saul in the old was Samuel, Saul in the new was Stephen. They both disobeyed God and rejected his message. Both were people pleasers. Etc. Saul in the old died by suicide and Saul in the new was killed for his faith. There are many lessons we can learn through their stories. That God odes give second chances and that God wants faithful people, and people that will be obedient.
