The term “the faith” in the Bible refers to our common faith in Christ Jesus for salvation.


Scripture teaches we are in a common “household of faith” as family.


Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Specifically the Holy Spirit warns us of the last days whereby some will depart from the faith, because they listened and gave heed to doctrines of demons.

Though a different word from salvation (sōtēria), saved (sozo), is used in the same way. Salvation is what we receive, (noun), as an end result of what Jesus did for us on the cross, being that He saved (verb) us, continues to save us, as we continue to believe, and continue in the faith.



But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Romans 5:8-10



Therefore the same definition applies:


Saved -

• The eternal preservation of our entire being, spirit, soul, and body, from all enemies, including death.

Inherit the kingdom of God

Jesus used this phrase when teaching His disciples in His Olivet Discourse.

It refers to those who have their part, in the kingdom of God, on the Day of Judgement.


31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Matthew 25:31-34

Those on His left hand, who do not inherit the kingdom of God, will hear these words.


Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: Mathew 25:41


It’s very easy to understand from this context what inherit the kingdom means and when it takes place.


Paul used this term when writing to the Church. Here is one example.


19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders,drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

Scriptures that pertain to inheriting the kingdom, which also mentions “entering the kingdom of God”.



21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” Acts 14:21-22

A couple of things about this verse I would like to point out.


First of all, Paul exhorted these disciples of Jesus Christ that they must through many tribulations, enter the kingdom of God, which refers to some time in the future, since it is by these very tribulations, that they would experience throughout their life, are the means by which they will enter the kingdom of God.

Paul is plainly referring to that Day, when we stand before the Lord to be Judged according to our deeds, and hear one of two things from Him:

1. ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
2. ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Jesus this to His disciples.

And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell fire— Mark 9:47

Eternal Life: Now

Eternal Life: Then

Lost:

• Separated from God; unreconciled with God
• Unjust; Unrighteous. Not right with God
• Sinner in need of repentance.

Note: For a sheep to be lost, it must first belong to the Shepherd.



A person who is lost needs to repent in order to reconciled back to God.

A person who is lost needs salvation.


Salvation as defined in the Bible means: From post # 45

Led by the Spirit; Walk in the Spirit




To be led by the Spirit, means we live our life according to the power of the Spirit within, resulting in manifesting love and the righteousness of faith rather than living according to the sinful desires of our flesh, manifesting the works of the flesh.


Here is the context:


Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:12-14



Here are the two choices for every Christian who are born again, and empowered by the Spirit, to live their life:

• if you live according to the flesh you will die
• if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

“IF” clearly indicates the condition of choice, each of us must make.

However, I would like to address your question head on and at face value, by referring to the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, in context with this subject of His sheep becoming lost, or separated from Him.


“What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it, assuredly, I say to you, he rejoices more over that sheep than over the ninety-nine that did not go astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. “Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector.
Matthew 18:12-17

• if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.

It’s interesting to note it wasn’t Jesus Himself going after the wayward brother.


This is actually a more detailed explanation of someone going after one of His sheep who needs to repent and return to the Lord, from the parable of the lost sheep that Luke also records.

We don’t know what specific “fault” or sin the brother in this story did, and it really doesn’t matter.

• Remember our perspective of sin may be entirely different that the Lord’s perspective.

It only took one sin to cause all of mankind to fall and become corrupt.

Adam’s sin wasn’t even murder or sexual immorality.

Don’t eat the fruit of the tree...


So, based on the teaching from Christ, one sin or fault perpetrated against another brother is enough, IF he doesn’t repent.

I'm going to push back lightly on this, but before you disagree, I would appreciate you hear me out and understand clearly what I am saying.

First, I am NOT saying we have a licence to sin. When we become aware of our sin, we must repent. This is not in question.

What is in question is sin itself and we see this in Pauls writing to the Corinthians in the matter of eating meat or holding one day higher than another. Paul goes as far as to say that if one man holds eating meat offered to idols as a sin, then to that man it is sin. However, it is only a sin in that mans eyes, not Gods so he has no right to bind that sin upon another.

Let's say these two men disagree, how does Paul tell the one stronger in the faith to deal with the brother weaker in the faith who considers it sin? More so, what happens when these two go to the church, yet the weaker brother accuses the church of heresy?

James writes of sin that leads to death, and its a progression. One does not loose their salvation because they sin. They loose their salvation when that sin grows in them, and they continue to feed it and the sin matures into death.

This goes back to what Paul wrote to Timothy. There are sins we commit that we are not aware of. God judges us differently on those than the sins where we harden our hearts and willfully sin. When we unintentionally sin and we become aware of that sin, we now have a choice. We repent of that sin which leads to salvation, or we harden our hearts and the Holy Spirit persues us. If we harden our hearts further, that sin leads to death.

That is how I understand it anyway.

I just read post no. 54 and I'll have to agree with it.

Adam's sin is a totally different situation...he did not OBEY God,,, and that IS sin...when we do not obey, we sin.

A sin will affect our relationship with God somehow and it needs to be forgiven which is why we are sorry for it and ask forgiveness. If we are NOT sorry, there is some problem because what sin does is hurt Jesus' feelings and causes some distance between us, but we are still "married" to Him.

But if we return to a LIFE OF SIN, as in 1 John 3:9, then I'd have to say that we cut-off our relationship with God since we no longer have any respect for God and quench the Holy Spirit, which we are told not to do.

I DO see a difference between sinning
and
living a life of sin.

One can be forgiven...one cannot.

P.S. the second one can also be forgiven, but the person must repent once again,,,change their direction, and return to God.

This is me, using scripture, to answer a straight forward question, with a straightforward answer from the Lord Jesus Christ.

It seems to me Jesus is giving us a commandment that if our brother sins against us, we are to go to him.
What if you don't tell him, and he moves away and you lose contact? Wouldn't you be sinning for not doing what our Lord commanded us?

How would you show repentance in this case, and would your salvation be at stake?

I believe there is willful sin that blatantly defies the commands of God like Adam did and written about in Hebrews 10:26, 27 and then there are sins that others say is sin, but yet not sin in the eyes of God like StoveBolts pointed out in #54.

Paul uses this same principal when writing to Timothy. Saul was zealous for the Lord and persecuted Christ believing he was doing Gods will. He repented when the truth was revealed to him.... And the rest is history.
