Greetings. I just drew an 8.5 and am on the way down toward 7.5 A1c but it will take me three months to do that. I could, if I do well, and yes, please do pray for me in this, and I will also lift your name to our husband. If, that is, if you also lift my name, you know.

And now? I'm going over to the song thread you started, the one what Wondering and Me were playing around in? I found a song you may like. But trust me, it's weird. Called,
"I got the devil in me."

? Boo! Are ya scared yet? ?

If'n I'm fast enuf ('ll be back 'ere with the linkers.)

Here's the cross-link. It's prayer forum. I'll just link here to Post #13 in your thread,
Tread-the-Thread -- clicky
: 'music or songs that describe how you're feeling or that help you feel better'

That link is one of the albums that I typically use as a MIX guide. Not for kids. This is the Euro mix. Zucchero means Sugah. And I'm Sparrow, outta here. Blessings to you. OH!! And when the Doc told me that I had "Diabetes"??

I did my best old man voice, would sound like Walter Brennan, (<----Google look up alert) and say, "Spek up, sonny boy! (Speak up, doc?) Yeah. Then continue after a three beat pause: beat1, beat2, beat3 - and, "Wat? What's dat you say? Oh, yeah. I gots me the disobeties." Yep. The best way to get me to do something is to tell me not to. Yeah. I got me the Dis-obey-ties. Well, that's what my doctor said," I said to my doctor... and your friend who sometimes calls himself a bird-brain, let his voice trail off then...

Yeah. It was a whole routine. Now repeated, but by typing. Talking is easier.

/BFN (bye for now).

Well,
I can tell you that you now qualify and get to participate in the latest diet trend of the Keto diet.
It actually will do wonders for you. You will feel better and even think more clearly than otherwise.
The mood swings will be drastically reduced and your mood elevated once you get into ketosis.
This is not the time to become fatalistic or despairitive...it's just diabetes. Regimented diet, medicines, and some moderate exercise will need to be a part of your life or else you will suffer horribly.
Blindness, neuropathy, losing limbs/appendages, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, and crying non-stop will be yours for not following your instructions.

But....

Following the diet and exercise plan can greatly effect your need for insulin or those pills. AND you can have a happy full life in spite of this new regimented lifestyle.

My wife has diabetes...we have been around the world on mission trips. She plans ahead bringing medicine and snacks and all is good.

It's only as bad as you make it to be.

So I've been taking my blood sugar, and it's been hovering around 160 for the past couple days. Loads better than the FBS of 216 I had at the dr's office.
So, I'm starting Metformin tomorrow, and I've been eating way way healthier the past few days. I discovered a method called the plate method, where half of your place is non-starchy vegetables, 1/4 starchy vegetables or whole grains, and 1/4 protein. I've been sorta following that, need to get better at planning and stop eating on the fly.

I'm gonna have to account for test strips and lancets in my budget. I may have to buy a cheaper meter so that I can afford the supplies, apparently Walmart has one....
Also ordered a medical alert bracelet

So sorry to hear. You may find these articles worth a read to help you on your journey:

hi. have you run your psych meds list by your family doctor? -a lot- of psych drugs have the unfortunate adverse effect of messing with glucose, sometimes cholesterol, triglycerides, too. the 'atypical' antipsychotics are the worst offenders that I know of, but I think antidepressants can do it, too...

-sigh- not trying to sound antipsychiatry, either. its just...'it is what it is,' that's all. :)

So I did call my Drs office about my psyche meds. I didn't know that they could cause or increase your risk for diabetes.
Over the phone, the nurse told me that I'm definitely diabetic, but that I should bring up my psyche meds with the people who prescribed them to me. I wonder how much my blood sugar might go down if I were to wean off them, or at least switch to different psyche meds....

the antipsychotics are the worst.

depakote...bad. tegretol...bad. some antidepressants are horrendous, actually...remeron, very bad. ssri sometimes cause weight gain, too.

the older antipsychotics aren't as bad for metabolic concerns as the new ones, but...they have -serious- adverse effects.

Most drugs do tbh. My mom is convinced that Metformin (my diabetes medication) will kill me

Definitely make sure you have your blood glucose meter available with the medications. I knew a few people whose doctors refused them blood glucose meters yet were giving them prescriptions. I knew one person who had bad diabetic ketoacidosis after taking Metformin. That same person was told to try to take glipizide instead and then glipizide ER, but both of them would pull them down over 100 points and make them ill. They just couldn't so the doctors pushed insulin. They were like, "No way." But after major diet change and holistic treatment, their blood sugar would come up and down normally, no issues, no headaches, etc. Then they were prescribed a months worth of heavy antibiotics and are back at square one with blood sugar issues, it damaged their gut so badly. =(

I'm taking my blood sugar at least once a day, if not more.
My mom wants me to go the all natural route. I don't know. It'll cost me a lot, maybe more than I can afford. (My nutritionist Aunt apparently has some natural supplements, but they're $100 a month)

i dunno. metformin is a popular medication...and its generic now, I think...but I do think there are some definite risks, same as any medication. blood work, too, I think...kidney function, maybe?

please talk to the psych prescriber and any doctor who prescribes anything and everything else (I don't know you, just trying to cover all the bases here). there are ways to switch it up and (hopefully...) get the results needed, but with different medications. one i've known some people have done is switching out some antidepressants for wellbutrin, because the wellbutrin tends to cause a little bit of weight loss, not gain. that's just an FYI, not any kind of recommendation.

But...I dunno about an 'all natural' route vs prescription. 5 years ago, I would have said jump on it, lol. now, though...i take some supplements, but they're more to help prevent some serious adverse effects, maybe get a tad more mileage out of 'treatment,' than an alternative. but...that's me. the good thing about diabetes vs mental health afflictions is that -if- you choose to try an all natural route, you can measure your progress and then decide which way to go, based on a trial run. so...there's that.

id really like (personally) to -not- take any antipsychotics, not matter how 'atypical,' just because...they're rough. but i doubt i'll be able to get any kind of meaningful switch, unless i can get my parents to pony up some $$$ and get me in with somebody on a self-pay basis, which...has pros and cons.

anyway...please keep us posted, as you make your way thru this situation. Praying for you, of course. :)

According to this, drug-induced diabetes may not be permanent! So I will talk to my mental health providers, ask about going on different medications, and see if my numbers might go back to normal after a while

yes...the worst situation I've ever seen was a man who developed diabetes II on Zyprexa, an 'atypical' that has since...well, its used, but its not as popular as it once was, largely because of metabolic concerns (and...litigation...). He had to be hospitalized. switched to a different 'atypical,' no diabetes II, a couple of years later. true story.

Supplements seem to cost an arm and a leg these days - especially for good quality. I am not sure what supplements you are doing. The person I knew that couldn't take Metformin or Glipizide told me they got their supplements on Amazon. They told me they got better quality more affordable ones, which were Solgar Chromium Piconilate ($10) and aSquared Nutrition Berberine ($49) and both of these last them about 3 months or more. Might want to look into them, they help bring down blood sugar. Many diabetics are chromium deficient.
