Do you know you are saved?

A personal opinion poll like this can also be a gauge on self-deception. It has zero bearing on the truth. Most criminals think they are intrinsically good people...just got into a bad situation. The truth is that what people consider as being saved will only be determined on judgment day. The rest is presumption.

Yes. But not after a struggle with it about 2 years after I was saved. God graciously showed me from the scriptures how to "make my calling and election sure". Not 'make' as in 'establish' my calling and election', but 'make' as in 'make known the reality of' my calling and election.

I haven't struggled with doubts about the surety of my salvation since.

"17 ...love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. 18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear (about the coming judgment), because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." (1 John 4: NIV1984)

5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you —unless, of course, you fail the test?" (2 Corinthians 13:5 NIV1984)

The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of our salvation. Christ is in us by the Holy Spirit. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is how we know we have Christ in us by the Holy Spirit and are sealed for the Day of Redemption. That is why we are exhorted to love. It confirms the surety of our salvation. And if we find we come up short we can do something about it. For a faith that can not keep the royal law of scripture, "love your neighbor as yourself" is a dead faith that can not save.

God has not left us clueless as to how to be saved, or how we can know if we truly believe or not.

"The only thing that counts (toward justification) is faith..."

What kind of faith?

...(faith) expressing itself through love." (Galatians 5:6b NIV1984)

If you have a faith that finds it's expression in an increasing godly love for others, you have the faith that saves. Your godly love for others is what shows that you yourself have received the love of God in the forgiveness of sins and are saved.

I have a better question. Here it is.
How much do you love the Lord? Scripture tells me that there is nothing that can seperate us from God.

I am saved because while I was yet a sinner, Jesus died for me. Having the right answer won't save anyone. Having the right relationship will.

I used to wonder and worry about that a lot.

"But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons."~Hebrews 12:8 KJV
According to this verse, if God punishes you for unconfessed sin, it's because you are His child...

This is what made me stop worrying about whether I'm really saved or not.

questdriven:

John 15 speaks about the vine and abiding in it and the Father who is the husbandman purges and prunes His vine. So if we undergo challenges and great stress, yet ultimately in one way or another it is for our good, right?

Blessings.

"13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life." (1 John 5:13 NASB)

Do you know you are saved?

No, because salvation is a process, not a one time event and we have free will.

"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1Cor. 1:18)

"For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, 16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life." (2Cor. 2:15-16)

"Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." (Phil. 2:12-13)

"Since, therefore, we are now justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life." (Rom. 5:9-10)

"13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life." (1 John 5:13 NASB)

eternal life is a type of life we can experience now. Immortality is a hope that is fostered by a continuing abiding in the eternal life.

Well put. :thumbsup

Any more takers to this simple question? (Do YOU...KNOW...YOU....are saved?)

I'll tread lightly here, I walk on thin ice, so to speak.

Yes, I am fully aware that I am not saved.
I never really brought it as something to worry about, considering my viewpoint.

But if I learned anything from being here, is that I envy the lot of you.

You are so happy and content with your place on this world, you don't worry about existence or state of being like I do.

It's so hard for me to comprehend a purely materialistic world and what lies beyond, and to struggle with being alone in this magnificent universe is a huge weight to bear.

I once thought that you people were fools, but now I realise that you live with a certainty and strength that I don't have.

I came here to learn, and you have taught me something very valuable about myself.

I may not be saved, but perhaps it should be something I should look into.

Thank you all, and have a blessed day.

You too can have that sense of contentment and peace. It comes from a relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. For some it can hit like a ton of bricks and for others like me, it can be a slower more progressive growth. Knock and the door will be opened. Seek and you will find. Ask and it will be given. In either case it is as God chooses so it will come according to His plan for you. Surrender and open yourself to be receptive of His love.
