^^ LOL, great way to get back on topic. I support artic drilling but hope that we learn to use new forms of energy before to long.

I just think that living in a beautiful earth free from pollution and rampant materialism would be what God wants from us....

And to respect the amazing animals and diversity on this planet.

Diversity is one of the essential characteristics of God's creation. It is God's Will.

Now mankind still needs to move towards unity in diversity.

"We don't have to protect the environment - the Second Coming is at hand. (James G. Watt, Reagan's Minister of the Interior)

Now I know why the Religous Right never made stewardship of the environment an important issue.

Go ahead and drill in Alaska, as long as it actually IS in Alaska.

Last map I saw of proposed drill sites was clearly in Canadian waters. When the Canadian Govt kindly pointed out that the US didn't have jurisdiction to drill there, the attitude of the US Govt was 'so, what are you gonna do about it?'.

Let's hope cooler heads prevail, and they do decide to abide by international law, wherever they drill.

Here is the issue as I see it.

1. The environmental hardship is not in drilling but in transportation. An earthquake in Alaske could break the pipe and cause lots of problems.

2. I see the oil reserves as a backup supply in case we get shut off from the Middle East. It would only last us for a couple of years, but it could be used to help us get off our dependence. However, it will take several years to get pumping.

3. We need alternative energy sources because the world is at its peak in oil production. We are now finding as many new oil reserves as we are using them up. Soon it will tip the other way and we will use more than we find and prices will skyrocket.

4. So I would propose setting up drilling operations so we can turn them on with a few months notice, but keep them as a backup for our transition from oil to something else.

The question is where would Christians, who are custodians of God's environment draw the line on resource development? I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that for many Christians, there is not such line.

If I were the King of the world my attempt at solving the energy issue would be ;
1) to build a moon base and mine Helium3 http://www.popularmechanics.com/science ... 83056.html

2) as well as research hydrogen fuel cells

Until we got to be energy sufficient I would ;
1) require all vehicles sold would have to get a minimum 50mpg
2) bust all the oil company trusts (end the collusion)

we are going to spend MILLIONS to get this project rolling and for what?

our need for oil just continues to grow. Look at the cars people drive! 10 years ago, it was small cars, and the ocasionaly van, or station wagon.

Now, whenever you drive by a car dealership, its SUV this, hummer that.

We need to be smart here. If we all drove a fuel efficient car, we could probably cut the demand for oil by 1/2.

If we demand less, then the prices will have to go down.

Why not invest in other fuel economys?

WE KNOW that ethanol works. We know that fuelcells, solar poor, and electricity work. We also know how much it will benifit american companys.

Take the american south west, and have all the farmers grow corn. GIve them all jobs. tons and tons of new jobs. THen, build ethanol plants, to take that corn, and make it into ethanol (even more jobs for the us) then, use that cleaner burning, fuel efficient, cheaper ethanol in cars.

When "big oil" funnels millions into the Bush campaign, they expect to get what they paid for. Bush's mind is already made up, now all he has to do is find an excuse to do it. WMD has already been used!

Yeah, probelm is, more fossil fuels are burned up in the long production of ethonal than is contained in a similar volume of gasoline.

If oil was discovered under the Arlington Cemetery, the Administration could justify setting up an oil rig!

I would hope so... :biggrin

Ive doen alot of research on ethanol, and that is the onyl report that doesnt seem to be very pro to it.

what is funny, is all teh reports i read, said that producing ethanol, would be cheaper than producing gasoline by 35-60 cents per same mpg.
