Oh, you mean budgeting. A certain percentage to housing, transportation, etc... I pretty much do okay with that.
Yes, "Zero Balance Budgeting." (That is making a plan for where every single penny is to go.... and seeing to it that it happens that way.)

I listened to Larry Burkett for years on Moody Radio. He talked about budgeting quite a bit. That and Austin Pryors' book. I think I have the budgeting part under control. I am mostly trying to improve my investing skills nowadays. Thanks for answering me, and may the Lord bless your budgeting efforts.

Just have your monthly check cut off, and then you will very quickly know exactly how much that money you were depending upon bought you quite a lot of happiness, on a very regular basis. (For one thing, you would no longer have access to this forum.)

Hey, during my life, I made some reasonable money. And I will never stand up and crow like a self-righteous fool that I would have been just as happy if I had only made a small percentage of that income.

It is a genuine fool who does not realize that a large majority of the hassles in our lives can very definitely be solved by having substantially more money.

That's very true, money is very important, but there are some things it can't do. Like for instance, somebody could be the richest person in the world but that can't buy their way into Heaven. Jesus can only do that and He did over two thousand years ago. That's all I meant, that sometimes some things are more important.

dirtfarmer here

As I have stated before; Money does buy happiness but it can't buy joy. Joy come from knowing the Lord and is eternal, but doesn't come from having money. Joy comes from having the savior Jesus Christ as your life.

Happiness comes from happenings. About every six month a new happening has to occur in order to be happy, but joy from and in the Lord has no end.

Since Donald has been bankrupt several times... obviously being rich has nothing to do with "wanting more".
Wherein more money brings more problems because people want your money and not really you, the owner of the money. And desperate people are likely to do anything to get your money.

$10,000 isn't even enough to buy a new car...but it's a year's wages in many parts of Europe. And food and energy are always at commodity prices. In some places in South America $10,000 is 5 years of wages.

So how much is enough?
How much is more than enough?
How much is too much?

The real answer is really your attitude about what you have.

My friends are my friends for good reasons and I don't even consider them wanting what I have. (Most of them earn much more than I)
But that doesn't mean that I don't have value to them... including my wife. She is my best friend. She's been trying to out earn me for years now. She holds more education than I. I'm just an electrician. A grubby, dirty construction worker. She holds a master's degree. I don't.
My wife and I are friends with all kinds of PHD's and master degree holders.
And it doesn't mean anything unless I allow it to.

Money can't buy the things I want most. It never could.

I want to help some of you. Don't let that money make you miserable. Send it to me.

Lol, I don't think so. Here, Michael74 said it best;

And don’t make me either rich or poor; just give me enough food for each day. Proverbs 30:8b NCV

Its best to be in the middle. Neither rich nor poor.

You guys real sure about that? Do just a moment of actual thinking before you boast: "Absolutely!"

Let me ask you a question. Are you or were you ever married? If so what was the reason if you don't mind me asking. Is it because you thought the woman of your dreams was beautiful, nice, and caring? Or was it because you thought she was loaded? Do you see what I'm saying yet? I think that it already has been established that money is important. You just need to find the right balance of the value it has in your life.

You want "real" talk on this? When it comes to money and your future, I am afraid you are in for a big shock. Come to think of it, "real" talk may not be what you want to face.

Rich people trust their wealth to protect them.
They think it is like the high walls of a city.
Proverbs 18:11 NCV

Then Jesus said to his followers, “I tell you the truth, it will be hard for a rich person to enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:23 NCV

If it has to do with the fact I'm on SSI and I don't have a lot of money, I already know. And it will be hard. There's no doubt about that. I will just have to start saving my money for the really important things that Joe and I need in life.

For the majority, being in the middle may be best. A few people can handle wealth properly, staying humble, and trusting the Lord. It makes sense that those with the gift of giving would have the ability to earn great wealth, so that they can support missionaries and such.

From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded. And from the one trusted with much, much more will be expected. Luke 12:48b NCV

So some Christians should be rich, so they can use the resources to get the job done. Not all Christians are capable of properly handling wealth. They are not yet fully mature spiritually, and wealth would tempt them. Those granted wealth have a greater responsibility. Much more will be expected of them.

See? Right there is the thing that is going to rise up to probably give you the biggest obstacle you have to face.......... You said, " I will just have to START saving money."

That is the voice of financial disaster speaking. To be bluntly honest with you, since he has been in for ten years, you should have already saved not a penny less than $50,000. (And that is a very low number for what you will need) Yet, you are only just now "talking" about STARTING to save..... and really not seriously PLANNING to do anything about it. (BTW, "planning" means you are going to begin tomorrow, not even a week or two later.)

I certainly don't mean to hurt your feelings, but that just won't cut it. (I TOLD you "real" talk about money and a future with a man who has a pretty dismal outlook in that area was going to be tough. I just don't think you are up to It yet.
