a friend of mine in Canada sent us some dvd's but the dvd player says "invalid region - cannot playback'' does anyone know if there is any way we can watch them? :sad

**NB i need legal ways.

You got to be kidding me? I knew nothing of this.

But here is the sad reality.

If you can't change your regional code internally the only other thing i could suggest would be to try your PC.

If that does not work i'll have to send you a Canadian brand DVD player, lol

Haha, you never heard of this before? :)

Yes, I believe there are like seven regional codes total. You have to get a player that will play the certain region code (or will play all of them), or else you are out of luck, (as far as I know).

God bless.

I think most PC's will play all regions.Or it will ask you if you want to change the region. You will only get to change the region a few times until it becomes permanent to the last choice. After that.....no changing anymore ! so be careful not to make your last choice the setting for Japan LOL

Maybe because PC parts are more likely to be sold worldwide they don't implement the same coding into them. That's my guess :shrug

John... hubby fixed it for me :) he found region coding unlock codes for our DVD player and it's working region free now :) we watched the first one last night (again, we'd both seen it B4)

i had never heard of region coding before either, but hubby educated me lol :tongue

We'll watch the other two tonight and tomorrow, i think they'll be great for our youth group.

It was good to note the "documentary" they made for anyone "left behind" after the rapture is made region code free so it can be played anywhere without unlock codes! lucky :) how awful if someone found it and wanted to watch it but couldn't because of coding in their DVD player lol.

But all better now :0

Thanks for all you help.. next time we need a DVD player we'll get a cheap one, a lot of the cheapy ones are region code free :)
