Apes have also been taught to use sign language. Language is, by definition, symbolic.
The famous "Coco" even made up words. She identified a pomegranate as a "red bang fruit" and made a pun by saying "Coco knows" by pointing to her nose.

And I think I've seen this Neanderthal guy with a sign that said "Will work for food."
(Or he starred in a movie. Can't remember. Did he invent golf???)

It's unfortunate that this study is subject to mockery. I thought that was against the participation agreement here.

I'm sorry maplegoat, I'm with Jim Parker on this one as being something to have fun with. Please forgive me if you are one of the scientists.

I personally have little sympathy to anything most of these so-called scientists come up with in view of lack of verification. It appears to be another quest for grant money I hope I don't have to be a part of.

Is there really credibility to such things, and do you believe Weather Forecasts are based on science? and they seemingly have much more practice at their craft than archaeologists?
 
I didn't realize the bias here was the 6,000 year old earth theorists. That was my mistake as there was no forewarning in the forum description.
Having a little fun with real peoples faces to have sport on the topic of this thread is not Christ like in the least. Made in the image and likeness of God and that which passes for Christian here calls it having a little sport. Very troubling minds there.

Please close my membership to this part of the board. I am not young enough to participate.

The error here is that homo-sapien Neandertalis WERE an early variety of humans....as were Denisovans
 
Yes, anatomically modern humans, Neandertals, and Denisovans are all subspecies of Homo sapiens. Because they left genes in various human populations (but not African populations; neither of the other two ever entered Africa), we know that they were quite capable of interbreeding with our particular subspecies.

Tibetans, for example, owe their high altitude adaptation to Denisovans. And North Asians and Europeans carry quite a few Neandertal genes.

"Us" being "humans who have survived to the present day. "Mitochondrial Eve" and Y-chromosome Adam were merely our last common female and male ancestors. There certainly were humans before they lived. Neither of them were Eve or Adam to which the Bible refers.
