The seven year great tribulation, which is not found anywhere in scripture, was derived by mans misinterpretation of Daniel 9:24-27. This is what the Bible clearly reveals about the seventy weeks. From vs.24 to vs.27 was seventy weeks or 490 days beginning with Ezra, (Ref: Ezra Chapter 3-6), rebuilding the temple to the time of the Messiah (Jesus Christ) being fulfilled in his birth, death and resurrection. In a sense it was a literal and spiritual temple that was being built. Ezra was teaching the people of the Spiritual temple of God that indwelled in all that believed in God and of the coming of Messiah. There was actually a five hundred year span from Ezra till the birth of Jesus that God shut himself off from National Israel because of their transgressions towards the Lord, but saved a remnant that would believe in the coming of Messiah, (Ref: Isaiah Chapter 10), as still today, God waits for National Israel (all people of the world) to repent and believe in the name of Jesus.

I have written much more on this topic that you can read on my website under the heading Second Coming of Christ as it is to lengthy to post in the forum as I break down each verse of Daniel 9:24-27.

What has been fulfilled is 7+62 weeks until Messiah. You havent addressed the last week which is 7 yrs.

being fulfilled in his birth, death and resurrection.
Here are the two verses in Daniel 9 that mention Messiah.

25 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

Messiah the Prince refers to the Messianic proclamation of the people when Jesus came into the city of Jerusalem, where they cried out Hosanna to the son of David, and laid palm branches down before Him. This event is celebrated even to this day as "Palm Sunday". Hosanna is a Messianic term from psalms 118 that means "save now"! The priest's were angry with the people and asked Jesus to stop them because this was a reference to be made to YHWH. Jesus said if these people don't praise me the stones will cry out.

This was the prophecy from Daniel being fulfilled and nothing in heaven or on earth was going to stop it from coming to pass!

21 I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. 22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This was the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We have blessed you from the house of the Lord. Psalm 118:21-26

This event marked the end of the 69th week!

Five days later, after the 69th week, Messiah was "cut off" on Passover.

Bible specification:

In Matt 24:15-31, Christ delineated that the setting up of the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet will trigger a rapid succession of events starting with the great tribulation at the end of which unusual celestial phenomena will occur which will be capped by the Second Coming.

Therefore, all prophecies in Daniel that are related with the abomination of desolation will find fulfillment shortly before the 2nd Coming, plain and simple.

1. Daniel 12:11 tells us the abomination of desolation will be set up 1290 days after the 'daily' is taken away.

2. Daniel 11:33 informs us the temple will first be desecrated before the 'daily' is taken away and then the abomination of desolation will be set up.

2. Daniel 9:27 tells us the 'daily' will be taken away at the middle of the last week of the 70 weeks.

3. Daniel 8:11-14 tell us that the length of time for the vision concerning the desecration of the sanctuary and the taking away of the 'daily' to be fulfilled is 2300 days.

Since the 1290 days, the 70 weeks and 2300 days are all related with the abomination of desolation, these prophecies are yet to be fulfilled in the future shortly before the 2nd Coming.

This explains why attempts at explaining these prophecies as already fulfilled in the past are filled with inexplicable inconsistencies.

PS: what do you think was the greatest & most IMPORTANT SACRIFICE looked at in the Universe if not that of the ABOMINATION (Matt. 23:38) that caused the death (of the pre/planed & known) of Christ??? And the Eccl. 3:15 repeat! Heb. 6:1-6 of the last 'seven spots=times' (are 7 yrs.) of Lev. 16:14 + 19 with chapter 17:7-9's CUT OFF or Matt. 25:10 CLOSED DOOR as Heb. 6:6 AGAIN DOCUMENTS!

Brother,

I am sorry, but I don't understand anything you just said.

We are in Daniel. Discussing the "midst" of what week?

Let's stick to Daniel and the discussion.

It the 'midst of the week Christ would be executed' by His ex/own!
In the midst of what week?

There are three sets of "weeks" mentioned in Daniel, 7 weeks, 62 weeks and of course the week in verse 27, which is, by process of elimination is the 70 th week.

Please pick one of the three periods of "weeks", and with scripture pertaining to our discussion, please explain.

Except the chapter 12 which specifies abomination of desolation of end times, all the rest clearly outlines a timeline of kings and kingdoms which will rise after the current king when the prophecy is spoken which does not have any inconsistencies. The inconsistency comes only for the last week of 70 weeks (not really a inconsistency but it never occured meaning it is a future event).

For example, the below verses were specifying a clearly timeline which must not be overlooked.

(Dan 11:2-4) "And now I will tell you the truth: Behold, three more kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth shall be far richer than [them] all; by his strength, through his riches, he shall stir up all against the realm of Greece. Then a mighty king shall arise, who shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will. And when he has arisen, his kingdom shall be broken up and divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not among his posterity nor according to his dominion with which he ruled; for his kingdom shall be uprooted, even for others besides these.

Hi Forum Mates; Our Savior had indicated in Matt 24:15-31 that the setting up of the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet will trigger a rapid succession of events starting with the great tribulation at the end of which unusual celestial phenomena will occur and will be capped by the 2nd Coming. Relative to that, here is the corresponding chart for your evaluation: (The days, months and days are all literal: 1 day = 1 day, not year)

Do you see any inconsistency in the chart against what Scriptures say?

I had asked you a specific question within the boundaries of this topic.

If you don't want to answer it, that's fine.

One thing that worries me and may be we neeed to be a bit careful is that, as in a couple of posts earlier, except the chapter 12 which specifies abomination of desolation of end times, all the rest clearly outlines a timeline of kings and kingdoms which will rise after the current king when the prophecy is spoken and also matches the kings and kingdoms not referring to end times.

Only chap 12 refers to end times. Any thoughts? It's quite important because, it may affect how we view and calculate numbers like 1290, 2300 etc.

JLB asks, "In the midst of what week?"

Elijah adds, "????? Does not the thread starter have a 'little more' depth suggested?"

Here's Scripture:

NIV Daniel 9:27 He will confirm a covenant with many for one 'seven.' {Or 'week'} In the middle of the 'seven' he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."

No doubt, v27 speaks of the last week. Notice, the taking away of the 'daily' precedes the setting up of the abomination of desolation as specified in Dan 11:33 and 12:11. The person responsible for the taking away of the 'daily' is the same person involved in the setting up of the abomination of desolation.

But what is the abomination of desolation? As used in Daniel, the word "abomination" is from the Hebrew "shiqquts" which elsewhere in the Old Testament refers to idols or images representing deities worshipped by pagans (see 1 Kings 11:5-7; 2 Kings 23:13; Jer 7:30; 32:34}. In Scriptures, there is only one such idol or image that will cause desolation to the end-time people of God, the image of the beast (Rev 13:15).

The chart in the OP shows the interrelationships of the different time periods as they relate to the taking away of the 'daily' and the setting up of the abomination of desolation or image of the beast.

What has been fulfilled is 7+62 weeks until Messiah. You havent addressed the last week which is 7 yrs.

The 70th seven began with Christ baptism in AD 29 and three years later at the end of the first half of the 70th seven sacrifices and offering ceased because Christ hung on the cross as he was the final sacrifice that fulfilled the law. From the giving of the law in 458BC when Ezra went to establish the law, or to rebuild the Spiritual city right up to the cross were the first 69 sevens. The 70th seven is from the time of the cross until Jesus comes and gathers his bride as they prepare to stand in the Holy place until the overspreading of abominations he will make desolate, or make an end to all that would not repent.

Nothing to worry, felix. The book of Daniel speaks of only one abomination of desolation and one 'daily', the taking away of which will bring about the setting up of the abomination of desolation which is the image of the beast, as I had explained in an earlier post.

The time periods of 2300 days, 3-1/2 years, 70 weeks, 1290 days and 1335 days are all related to the abomination of desolation which when set up Christ explained will trigger a rapid succession of events starting with the great tribulation the occurrence of which God will shorten for the sake of the elect or no one would remain alive, and at which end unusual celestial phenomena will occur to be capped by the 2nd Coming.

The shortening of the days of occurrence of the great tribulation is to ensure that not everyone gets killed.

NIV Matthew 24:22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.

To convert the days of occurrence of the great tribulation into years would defeat the very purpose for which God shortened it. This indirectly tells us the occurrence of the events leading to the great tribulation must necessarily occur within the human life span otherwise no one survives.

The 70th seven began with Christ baptism in AD 29 and three years later at the end of the first half of the 70th seven sacrifices and offering ceased because Christ hung on the cross as he was the final sacrifice that fulfilled the law. The person that fulfills Dan 9:27 is directly related with the setting up of the abomination of desolation or image of the beast.

Clearly, this person is against our Lord, and hence, can NOT be our Lord, as many teach. This teaching is biblically untenable. If the taking away of the 'daily' refers to the crucifixion of Christ, then what abomination of desolation was set up after 1290 days (Rev 12:11)? NOTHING.

Is it possible to look into : The 70 week prophecy of Daniel and Prophecy of Daniel 8 is over: 2300 days.

Both Daniel 8, 9 and 11 are over because of the prophecy that accurately tells the history.

"Abomination of desolation" might be a "description" rather than a specific event. If you look at what Jesus said and the Daniel prophecy,

  • (Dan 11:31) ... and place [there] the abomination of desolation.
  • (Dan 12:11) ... and the abomination of desolation is set up,
It is sometimes translated as abomination that makes or causes desolation.

(Matt 24:15) " Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand),

Jesus is basically saying about an abomination that makes desolate which is spoken by Daniel and even goes to say what that abomination is, by adding, "standing in the holy place". Although we are brought up and taught using the term "Abomination of Desolation", it is simply an abomination that makes desolate not necessarily a specific event. We do know that such an abomination of desolation already happened during Maccabees Revolt.

This is from Wikipedia on Maccabees_Revolt,
Antiochus pillaged the Temple, attacked Jerusalem and “led captive the women and childrenâ€. From this point onwards, Antiochus pursued a zealous Hellenizing policy. He made possession of the Torah a capital offense and burned the copies he could find. He banned many traditional Jewish religious practices: Jewish sacrifice was forbidden, sabbaths and feasts were banned. Circumcision was outlawed, and mothers who circumcised their babies were killed along with their families. Altars to Greek gods were set up and animals prohibited to Jews were sacrificed on them. The idol of Olympian Zeus was placed on the altar of the Temple. The motives of Antiochus are unclear. He may have been incensed at the overthrow of his appointee, Menelaus, or he may have been responding to an orthodox Jewish revolt that drew on the Temple and the Torah for its strength and encouraged by a group of radical Hellenizers among the Jews.

I explained better @ Prophecy of Daniel 8 is over: 2300 days

I believe "Abomination of Desolation", is a kind of abomination that makes the temple of God desolate or deserted by God. This abomination is placing an idol in the temple of God.

Hi, if you believe Eccl. 3:15 & you can find Laodicea Spewed OUT, (still being one of the past/tense 7 Virgin candelsticks in doctrine, as seen Rev. 3:16-17 & also warned in Rev. 2:5) what is the ABOMINATION again seen in ibid 9????

[9] Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Tell me how much more Old Israel & this last prophesied church could be in ANY MORE OF AN ABOMINATION than to have [[CHRIST REPLACED]] with satan!

Again read & re/read Isa. 5:3!
[1] Now will I sing to my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved hath a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:
[2] And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

[3] And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, [[[judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.]]]

And???? John 12:42-43 finds what their choice was & why so.

[42] Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:
[43] For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

PS: And verse 7 of Isa. 5 tell's one who the Vineyard of the Lord is... 'THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL'

Brother, that makes no sense what so ever!

Please look at the scripture.

"Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

The 69th week ends with "Messiah the Prince".

Psalm 118:21-26

21 I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. 22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. 23 This was the Lord's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. 24 This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. 25 Save now, I pray, O Lord; O Lord, I pray, send now prosperity. 26 Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! We have blessed you from the house of the Lord.

This event marked the end of the 69th week!

Five days later, after the 69th week, Messiah was "cut off" on Passover.

26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
