That's a good idea. I can add that, more and more people are spending more time at home lately and indoor air quality is very important. A sick bit of trivia...all of the dust that has accumulated in your furnace & air conditioner system and the duct-work...is, human and animal skin cells. It's mostly not dirt at all.

It is a huge health benefit to have the duct-work of your home HVAC system cleaned by a good outfit. I've worked alongside of some of these guys, and they do great work. So turn on the air filter, but after you've cleaned the system.

Farms in rural areas would likely have clean air. Its the majority who dwell in cities who have to filter out pollution. The American Lung Association stated that 141 million Americans dwell in cities that got an F grade for air quality.

So 141 million Americans should filter their air. Most rural areas are fine the way they are. People who are sensitive to pollution in counties with a C or D grade might also want to filter.

Don't even ask about the pollution in cities like Bombay in India. Their pollution is from the outer limits. They should filter the air in their homes, and put a filter on their face when walking outdoors.

Developed countries are working on pollution. Enough or not I am not expert on.
Developing nations are more an issue.
It's not just the here and now. There is an effect on our bodies, and I lean towards an effect on the climate.
Despite what the president says. His EPA and Department of the Interior heads were from the coal and oil industries. Those things aren't evil incarnate, but they are somewhat at odds with what many environmentalists want for the planet.
Perhaps something between extremes. But this administration is rolling back on regulations.
If the air and water are cleaner you don't need to filter as much.
And unclean air doesn't just hover over the sources. It moves around the entire planet.

i sometimes wonder if global heating is as big an issue as those (mostly on the left...) make it out to be. im not a 'conspiracy theorist' or anything, its just...

a random thought/concern/question.

developing nations have a lot to deal with...modernization, pockets of deep poverty, inequality, on and on. seems like there should be more international collaboration and cooperation on ways to move forward in all respects, including -not- destroying the earth (please).

Sometimes the air ranks. The flavour is like sulphur egg fart. I found out its the mangroves down the river.

Even if you drive then suddenly it can rank and you would definitely think someone in the car dropped one it could cause accusations to fly everywhere.

rivers do create emmisions that it has happened to me, algea blooms can kill, cause a lung issue. currently the swamp way out west is doing that. the blasts of sand rich in iron cause a type of red tide which leads to this.

It is sad to me that people live in huge cities with such filthy air. I lived in the big city for a year and I noticed the changes in my sinuses and lungs. Some days they burned, other days it was hard to catch a breath. Most days were not good, and many low quality air days. I found myself checking the air forecast daily. I would try not to take the kids out on bad days. Going out after major firework holidays was a no go because it was so hazy out.

I am thankful to be in a small city with no major power plants nearby or huge sources of air pollution. My lungs and airways have thanked me for it.

Yes, they need to take precautions. Air filters in their homes, and in some places masks when walking outside. Lets hope air cleaning technology improves.

You are fortunate, and I am glad that you are able to dwell there.

The sad thing is even with air filters and such, there isn't any 100% escape from outdoor air. I do agree air filters make a difference, though.

Pollens from trees,plus alagea

Pollen in many cities is becoming intense. City planners are planting lots of super pollen producing vegetation. Several cities in Australia have had hundreds of people visit the emergency room due to pollen. London and Tokyo pollen levels are in the stratosphere. Yet another reason to run the air filters in your house.

The Guardian said:
Their pollen grains are very small, very light and dry. Because so many people have for so long been overexposed to this kind of pollen, large numbers of people have become sensitised to it.

Many city dwellers have been exposed to pollen for a long time now, and are developing an allergic reaction to it. The longer people are exposed to super pollen vegetation, the more intense the reaction. Its not just the quantity of pollen in the air that is responsible, vegetation has been chosen that has micro pollen, which is breathed deeper into people's lungs.
