So I've been wondering, since we do not belong to our parents (God created us and not them) and ultimately God is our Father (parent) and Scripture also talks about sons leaving mother and father etc.,
do you think that having "Family" on earth is only an earthly state and somewhat of a "medium" to get through life but once you enter Heaven, there is no family per say since we are all God's children?

To add some more spice to it:

if there were family structure in heaven like on earth, then who is to say what it would look like....my family when i was a kid? or a teen? or a young adult? because essentially everyone will be ageless.

So I'm thinking there will not be any such thing as an eartlhy family carrying over into heaven....only that we will all be children of God part of his family.

What do you think?

I think we will be reunited with our loved ones in the next life.

I tend to agree. Are we not all part of the family of God? I like the thought that every man is my brother and every woman is my sister.

I'm sorry I don't have the exact scripture passages but Jesus mentions how one will have to leave their mother and father. So I'm getting this idea that while you can be reunited with your mom or dad in heaven, you won't be living in a heavenly house with your mom and dad again and your siblings. This would then open a set of unanswerable questions like: well how old would you be then? 12 again? but by the end of your life you would have been a grandfather/mother or father/mother with children so are they going to live in this heavenly house too?

And since we know that we will be ageless and our bodies will be different, it leads me once again to believe there will be no such thing has moms and dads but rather souls you happened to go through life with because you could have ended up with any family, in any country, etc.

Don't get me wrong though, sentimentally i'd like to believe there would be the good old family setting again in heaven but it doesn't seem to make sense because u wouldn't know what age to go back to (be the little child? the teen? the young adult? be the father? be the grandfather?).

It's kind of a sad notion to think there won't be "my family" thing in heaven but then again i think since we will all be family, it won't really occur to us at that time because everyone will be our brother/sister (even our parents) because God will be the PARENT.

Yeah, also take note that people won't be married in Heaven. Don't feel distraught about it, though. God obvously thinks that we don't need marriage in the ressurection.

The sadness of what we know to be past, will surely be replaced by the glory of perfection. Perhaps our image of haven is best described by our picture of Gods perfection, but that leads to deeper questions. What is our perception of God perfection?

We can learn of it through his word, and the practice of it through our lives and our relationship with Christ, but who among us can fully grasp the whole of it? Not until we make that final trip home will we ever truly know.

One thing I try to keep mindful of is that I am physically finite. I will die some day. This life is 100% fatal, and every second of every day, of every year I am closer to that.

This is a good thought for me. It keeps me well grounded in the understanding that my time here is important; not to be wasted. And so that it is not wasted, my time is best spent first on my relationship with God as I am on this earth. That's how I start my day. I think about that and then I pray.

I will not reach perfection on this earth. No one will regardless of ones relationship with Christ. But, it is through that relationship, and the seeking of such, that one reaches, or is molded to ultimate perfection, and that my brother will come when we take our last physical breath. Rather than the thought of what we may loose, or not have, we should focus on that which we will gain. That is much harder to imagine, but much more than we know.

We will know who are parents, children, and spouses are in eternity, but we will not have the same type of relationship we have with them now. However we will know them and love them as we will everyone else.

I agree we will know and of course love our family that is in heaven. We will not be married, or given in marriage. But I believe the family you have here you will know and remember who they where, when you where on earth.

ps. cornflakes, love the name..

I'm not sure where it is in the Bible, but doesn't someone ask Jesus, "If a woman remarries after her husband dies, who will she be with in Heaven?". I think Jesus says something like, now I am paraphrasing here..."Life in Heaven will not be like life on Earth...It will completely different".

Here are a couple of interesting resources on this topic if anyone wants to check them out.

This other one I did not thoroughly check out in terms of all it's biblical references, but seems pretty good. Anyone wanting to thoroughly look into what the bible says about haven might like to reference this.

A Confession - (I mean this in the most light-heart-ed way) but there are people at church/Life that I sometimes avoid because they annoy me. It's not their fault or problem. It's totally mine, but I find myself having to pray to God just in talking with them.
I often wonder if I will meet these people in haven. If I do will I tell them how annoyed I felt around them, or will they simply just know. I can't be the only one who thinks this. Maybe since we will have reached perfection in Haven I will be able to get over whatever it is that makes me sometimes feel/think this way. I'm sure that will be true, but until then it is a sin I try to work on and I tell myself that there are others who must also think and feel of me in that way as well. ;)
