I've been studying the house church movement lately, and I must say my favorite author is Gene Edwards. I wonder what other people think? List your author here, and latest book you've read. :)

Well I have never heard of Gene Edwards, but he does have a Wiki page. I will read his Bio later.

My favorite author is Homer Hickham. He wrote "Rocket Boys" which was made into a movie called "October Sky." His writing style is definitely unique.

Right now, I just started reading a book called "I'm Fine With God, It's Christians I Can't Stand". It was recommended by someone else on these Forums.

Tozer is my favorite!!!! My favorite book by him is "The Knowledge of the Holy", that book will redefine the way you think about God, especially if you live in western society. I'm just finishing up "The Pilgrim's Progress" by John Bunyan. Next on the list is "The Cost of Discipleship" by Bonhoeffer. I don't read many current books, I always seem to be drawn to the older classics. "Practice of the Presence" is another oldy but goody, by Brother Lawrence. :thumb

I have just started reading a book be JI Packer called Knowing God and I am finding it amazing, not finished yet so cannot come to any final conclusion yet.

I enjoy classic fiction and would recommend these authors: Willa Cather, Conrad Richter, and Mildred Walker. There are other good authors, too. Right now I am reading “The Magnificent Ambersons†by Booth Tarkington.

Dear deceptionlurks2000. My favorite author is Peter E. Gillquist. 2 books by him are best.

1. Gillquist, Peter E. (1992). Becoming Orthodox: A Journey to the Ancient Christian Faith. 2nd ed. Ben Lomond, CA: Conciliar Press.

2. Gillquist, Peter E. (1979). The Physical Side of Being Spiritual. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan Publishing House.

IN ERIE PA GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU. Scott R. Harrington SCOTTH1960:pray

Tolkien. Gotta love a guy who can write an enter series of books that centralize on Christianity, but can do it without ever mentioning anything Christian, it's like brainwashing for atheist geeks! :lol

I love George Elliot, the female novelist. She has a brillant style of writing with Christian themes threaded in although she did not write Christian novels. So purely from an appreciation of writing style and ability to express and use words, I think George Elliot rules, but if you ask what my favorite books are they tend to be Christian biographies which usually are not as eloquently or well written as what Elliot could do. However, if someone just has no talent in writing but has a great story, I generally can`t get through the book. Although I`m not a good writer, I deeply appreciate and enjoy good writing skills much like someone who can`t play a musical instrument but deeply appreciates fine, top quality classical music. So I read not only content but I soak up the style and technique of writing as well which is probably why I love the KJV. It is just beautifully expressed and written!!!

The latest book I read was Henry David Thoreau`s "Civil Disobedience" which I found the author to be rather stubborn on some points but other points he made good arguments, but most impressively I found the very things he was complaining about the government in the 1800`s were the SAME things people complain about today. So I realized things haven`t changed that much in American politics or the heart of politicians.
