CHRIST WAS OUR EXAMPLE OF SUFFERING (LOVE)
John 8:29
29 "And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him."
1 Pet 2:21-22
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
22 "Who committed no sin, nor was deceit found in His mouth";
1 Pet 2:19
19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully.
II Th 2:9-11
9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie,
Heb 12:3
3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.
Heb 12:2
2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Phil 3:17
17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
1 Tim 4:12-13
12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
James 5:10
10 My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.
Heb 5:8-9
8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
Heb 4:15
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
1 Pet 4:1
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,
2 Cor 4:8-10
8 We are hard pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed--
10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.
Phil 3:12-17
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.
16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
Heb 2:9-11
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.
10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are being sanctified are all of one, for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,

CHRIST WAS TEMPTED
Matt 4:1
1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.
Mark 1:13
13 And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.
1 Cor 10:13
13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
Gal 6:1-2
1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Heb 2:18
18 For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.
James 1:13-16
13 Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.
15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
(NKJ)

1 Tim 6:3-5
3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,
4 he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions,
5 useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

Question: Do you then keep the 7th day Sabbath (4th commandment) as Jesus, and the Apostle Paul did ?

[quote:e5474] Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.
[/quote:e5474]"Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition? (Matthew 15:3).
"But in vain ...they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men", (Matthew 15:9).

Since Sunday worship services, are not ordained of God.....they must be men's ideas.

I'm not a one day a week christian, I am a seven day a week christian.

Rom 14:5-8
5 One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.
6 He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.
7 For none of us lives to himself, and no one dies to himself.
8 For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.

Self-abasement?

Colossians 2:18,19 NASU

Rom 12:2-3
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

OK....how do you balance what God said....with what God said ?
Or...do you call one part of the Bible non-valid, and another part, valid ?

Me ?
I believe the whole Bible...both Old Testament and New testament.
To me, there is no contradition betwen the two....everything is balanced.

The difference is love !

Does a person keep the Law, because of love for God ?
Jesus said: "IF..you love me, keep my commandments", (John 14:15).

Because Jesus Himself, said, he kept His Father's commandments....BECAUSE ..of love for Him:
John 15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

This fact, the Christian world has yet, to understand !

Very True !

The sabbaths [of] the law of Moses were abolished at the cross...such as the Passover sabbath....the Feast of Unleaven Bread sabbath...etc...etc.

But the 4th commandment....the 7th day Sabbath has been with us since the beginning of this world (Genesis 2:2,3)....and will continue on, thru eternity:
" For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.
66:23 And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall [all] flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. (Isaiah 66:22,23).

IMO, these "appointed seasons", these "appointed times" have also "been with us since the beginning of this world" -- Gen. 1:14.

"And GOD SAID, 'Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for SEASONS......' " -- Gen 1:14.

The word "seasons", here, is the same word for "feasts" in Leviticus 23.

http://bible.crosswalk.com/InterlinearBible/ -- type in "seasons" and "feasts" in the search box.

IMO, God always had His "appointed times", from the very beginning (Genesis 1:14) ---- and will be, in the next (Isaiah 66:23 & Zechariah 14: 16-19).

You havent separate the old testament law of sin and death from the new testament law of Christ yet. There is a big difference. Christ brought over the parts of the old testament that He wanted to be a part of the new testament. He had that authority, but we dont. He brought over everything that God wanted brought over. In fact if you keep any part of the old testament that isnt in the new testament you could fall from grace.

I prefer to hold on to Jesus Himself and not grasp at shadows.

The point of the Law is Christ--NOT the law!

LAW OF CHRIST

Luke 6:37-38
37 "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.
38 "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."
Gal 6:2
2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
Luke 11:46-48
46 And He said, "Woe to you also, lawyers! For you load men with burdens hard to bear, and you yourselves do not touch the burdens with one of your fingers.
47 "Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
48 "In fact, you bear witness that you approve the deeds of your fathers; for they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs.
James 5:9
9 Do not grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door!
1 Cor 6:7-8
7 Now therefore, it is already an utter failure for you that you go to law against one another. Why do you not rather accept wrong? Why do you not rather let yourselves be cheated?
8 No, you yourselves do wrong and cheat, and you do these things to your brethren!
1 Cor 6:6
6 But brother goes to law against brother, and that before unbelievers!
1 Cor 6:9-10
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,
10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Rom 7:4-5
4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another-- to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God.
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.
Rom 7:8
8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.
Rom 7:10-11
10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death.
11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.
1 Pet 2:19-21
19 For this is commendable, if because of conscience toward God one endures grief, suffering wrongfully.
20 For what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God.
21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps:
1 Cor 15:24
24 Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.
1 Cor 15:26
26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
Col 3:15
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
John 14:26-27
26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
27 "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Matt 5:38-48
38 "You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.'
39 "But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
40 "If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also.
41 "And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
42 "Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
43 "You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
44 "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,
45 "that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 "For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
47 "And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?
48 "Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
Rom 8:3
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
Rom 8:1-2
1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Matt 6:14-15
14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 "But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matt 7:2
2 "For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
Gal 5:1
1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
James 1:25
25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
Matt 10:16-19
16 "Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
17 "But beware of men, for they will deliver you up to councils and scourge you in their synagogues.
18 "You will be brought before governors and kings for My sake, as a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.
19 "But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak;

xxx Mans law was based on the old testament law of sin and death, or sin and punishment. Mans law is based on fareness, but it is mans fareness not Gods. Jesus came down to show us what true justice is, not according to the old testament, and not according to mans justice. Jesus brought us the true justice from God. If you use the laws of man on others God will use His laws on you. If you forgive others, God will also have to forgive you. Every decision you make, you make it according to principles. Old testament principles, mans principles, or New Testament principles. They are different. And some of you make some decisions on what ever principle benefits you. The law of Christ is the same amount that you use in your life, is the same amount that God is going to use on you at judgment day. So everything you do, you are setting up your own judgment for judgment day. So remember if all your judgments benefit you now, then all of Gods judgments will benefit Him on judgment day. If all your judgments benefit others now, then all of Gods judgments will benefit you on judgment day.
And the new testament is a law, the law of Christ.

John 15:14
14 "You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

Heresy, pure and simple. You have turned the good news of Jesus into another law, much like the Judaisers in Galatia. The New Testament is NOT a law, nor is it the law of Christ. The New Testament is the revelation of God's plan of salvation through Jesus' death and resurrection. Salvation is by faith, NOT by observing any law.

Here are some words for you:

"You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you?...

I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Have you suffered so much for nothing--if it really was for nothing? Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?"

--Galatians 3.

You should read everything in Galatians. Paul emphasizes that we have been freed from observing the law (ANY law), and now our motives for any good deeds are based upon faith and love.

To make the Gospel of Jesus into a law is downright heretical. It also demonstrates what I have found to be obvious from the getgo--it is a different spirit, not the Holy Spirit, instructing you.

Vice

You should read everything in Galatians. Paul emphasizes that we have been freed from observing the law (ANY law),.........

No law ever saved anyone, at anytime -- OT or NT (Galatias 3:21).

But you don't break the very laws that put Jesus on the cross in the first place.

"Cursed is everyone who continues NOT in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them:" --- Gal. 3: 10

Bob,

You really should have quoted me in context. This is what I wrote:

You should read everything in Galatians. Paul emphasizes that we have been freed from observing the law (ANY law), and now our motives for any good deeds are based upon faith and love.

This is exactly in line with what the Apostle Paul was saying in Galatians:

"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." --Galatians 5:1

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge in the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbour as yourself." --Galatians 5:13

You also should have quoted the Apostle Paul in context. In Galatians 3:11ff, he writes:

"Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because "the righteous will live by faith." The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, "The man who does these things will live by them." Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us...."

IN THE CONTEXT of the verse you presented to me, Paul was saying that if you don't have faith, you are still under the law and its obligations (in other words, you are cursed). Christians, however, are free from the law and its curse because of their faith. We are now FREE FROM the obligations of the law (working toward salvation) and FREE TO observe the law out of a love and faith motivation. It's not a NEW LAW of love.

Certain Christians walk a fine line when they attempt to subject others to "a new law." The Epistle to the Galatians addresses this amazingly well.
