Tropical forests recycle the planet's air.

We need something that is evidence based science designed to improve the air. Not myriad different lobby designed for various unrelated purposes. People need clean, healthy air to breathe.
More trees have been planted.silicone mining hardly tree friendly ,nevermind toxic gases used to clean electronics that make c02 look miniscule in its effects.

Cabt mine nor extract silica without lake ,beach extraction ,or digging a big hole in,the ground ,water problems ensue .

Like any mining operation, mining lithium has its impact on the environment. Today’s mining companies take sustainable development very seriously and responsibly and focus on environmental management more than ever.

Each time we begin talking about mining for resources, there is an environmental concern. While USA and other developed countries are pursuing becoming independant from fossil fuels in favor of alternatie fuels and electircally powered cars, there’s a bigger picture.

When it comes to mass production of hybrid and electric vehicles, the main problem has been a shortage of batteries. And the main material in growing demand is lithium. An element found in abundance in South America, where the cheapest extraction method by evaporating salt brines in the solar ponds deploys usage of cheap and toxic PVC; and in lithium-rich regions of Chile where extracting the metal uses two-thirds of the area’s fresh drinking water.

Lithium is the 33rd most abundant element, however, it does not naturally occur in its pure form due to its high reactivity. Lithium metal, due to its alkaline properties, is corrosive and reacts with water. Breathing lithium dust or alkaline lithium compounds irritates respiratory tracts. Prolonged exposure to lithium can cause fluid to build-up in the lungs, leading to pulmonary edema. The metal itself is a handling hazard because of the caustic hydroxide produced when it is in contact with water causing an explosion.

Lithium mining carries high environmental costs. Mining companies prospecting lithium in northern Tibet, salt plains of South America, and Chile as well as lithium at Bolivia's Salar De Uyuni require extensive extraction operations and water in a dry land.

But according to an article published by TIME, “lithium mining, as observed in countries with deposits like Chile, Argentina and China, seems to be less hazardous than other kinds of mineral extraction. ‘Lithium could be one of the least contaminating mining processes,’ says Marco Octavio Rivera of Bolivia’s Environmental Defense League, although he notes that prolonged exposure to lithium can cause nervous system disorders.”

Everything comes at the cost, so while the environmental impact might not be worse than mountaintop mining, it’s going to be important to pay attention to the environmental impact, because there will be one

from the article. drinking water, if they happened in my state they would be banning it.

Miners should wear protective masks when mining. Seems to be the case almost no matter what is being mined.
Who says that they don't? my point is water shortage is as deadly ,imagine chile during a drought and they try to mine ,it won't happen.

On top of the natural of the habitats being destroyed,if coal or oil is bad ,then so is the other as they too destroy habitats .

...imagine Chile during a drought...

Yes, many places are using up their ground resources faster than they can be naturally replenished. Creating a future situation for their children. Chile has the Pacific close by, but desalinization requires oodles of energy. Saudi can do it because profits from oil subsidize it, but almost no one else can afford to do it in appreciable quantities.

That was a lithium mine ,not oil.did you, read the article? it mentions how hard its to,get lithium and water us used to extract it .

Oil is found much easier .My state has oil potential.oil has been found in the everglades and elsewhere.

Chile and south Africa ,China are where lithium comes from.

A drought in my county has caused a well used to by,the city to drain irrigation wells nearby ,which then, the city had to replace ,the county also had to pay a farmer for a similar situation.

Not every county ,city uses the 1000ft deep wells.my area doesn't ,its flow wells ,and artesians.salt water penetration is a problem. Broward, west palm and Miami use lake Okeechobee as a water reservoir back up.imagine if a silicone mine sucked the bottom of that out.or also tapped into that .its not that deep.12 ft at the most

No... nothing of the sort.

You go to the gas station... same one as you have been using...

I'm not sure exactly what petroleum product they will configure the cell for....but it can be just about every type of fossil fuel.
Some are better than others but you will use regular fuels already on the market.
Deuterium .its already in the ocean and used I, nuke plants .

Looks like they believe that we won't have enough copper ,etc to build enough cars and not also other things .

Yeah and we were supposed to be out of oil by the 90's too...

But we are running short on rare Earth elements... the raw material used to make li-io batteries.

I believe it's more of how much land to be destroyed over the amount

I do wonder since a new 400 volt xmfrs to power the 400 volt fast charger is needed ,how any, money saved as that is a demand usage ,all kWh are charged at 400 volts despite onmy being a simple cfl.

From what I've been led to believe...it's both. Mostly because the rich deposits of the rare Earth metals are being exhausted and the other deposits are much less rich requiring huge swaths of land to access sufficient quantities for processing.
Like the uranium in Texas vx The Rocky mountains...in Texas you have to drill a hike, pump in Boric acid and then pump out the pregnant solution and then process it to get the uranium out...versus blasting away rock with veins of uranium in them.
Our rich deposits are gone...just like the rich deposits have been removed from Afghanistan by Russia in the late 70's.

Most have true watt meters instead of just CT's and a knowledge of the voltage...it reads both and does the math. (Meh... electronics make it cheap to do so)

Used to be that a good magnet could fix high power bills... nowadays nope.

Either way I don't think the electric car Wil be fully embraced .where by ever car ,truck will have that, trains have used electric for ages.since the 50s.

This new Tesla Truck could be a great thing that takes off.
Especially if you can get the range they are talking about.
The price point and power could make it happen. Even if the windows break

A demand meter is a digital one .the hospital here used a rare one where it took six months to replace ,it read 5 instead of 4 numbers and we did, reset the demand of kWh hours .it was 480.yet the place had 110 outlets .

That's my point the house will,be wired for 480 it 400 and all use charged as such .despite seoerate wiring for 220 etc

But not all trucks will be ,I can't imagine waiting 4 to 8 hours after a hard amount of driving to recharge that truck .

I drive my work truck quite a bit .my,paper route days i put 300,miles a week .for me I would have to park that and let it charge for a few hours on a day before a throw a route .but my job ,that might be a problem for some .lineman I can't see that unless they have akternatinf trucks for that .
