Isn't the original dispute with Galileo and the Catholic church is that his telescope images proved divinity, particularly with respect to the planet Saturn, and Galileo was in denial?

Hubble Telescope. huh huh huh.

AFAIK the newest and best observatory in the country is the Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, operated by the University of Chicago.

Mostly, it had to do with the heliocentric theory, which Galileo's investigations demonstrated to be true. The Church never actually endorsed the geocentric theory, but many influential bishops did. The real reason for his trial was political, and was because the Pope removed his protection from Galileo. He had formerly, if cautiously, encouraged Galileo's work.

No.
The conflict was the contemporary wisdom that the earth was the center of the universe (solar system at that time) rather than the sun being the center. Galileo supported the Copernican view of a heliocentric based on his observations with his telescope.

The problem for the church was that most people believed the earth to be the center and that discovering that the sun was actually the center might disturb the faith of many Christians. So, they essentially told him to shut up and not make waves.
