pleased with us but she isn't the only one who says that. but yeah she is a bit off. we need to please god because we love him. god they are so self focused at that church.

I don't know enough about Osteen's church, but that approach isn't the best. We are to cultivate joy, joy that persists even in trying times, but happiness...I dunno. And I don't know that we obey God "for ourselves." This sounds like Christianity-as-therapy.

its classic osteen. enough truth to make one vomit the real truth. that is why I don't listen to him. he might be saved man but his style of theology is mostly fluff.

sadly its so catchy that It will work into other churches. enough Christians listen to osteen to do just that.

I vaguely remember reading part of one of his books...something in there about praying for a good parking spot. I don't mean to sound too harsh---I mean, the book may be over 300 pages--but...wow...

I have prayed for that simply because of my wife. she has a back issue. yes at times I think god cares for the small stuff but we shouldn't pray for silly things either

Its not that a good parking spot isn't desirable--especially if you or somebody in the car has physical issues--its that...I dunno...as I (barely) recall, the tone of the book was that God is just waiting to bless you with tangible, material things.

God is good. God does bless His children. This is true, but...

...there's a level of...I dunno...self-centeredness to the whole thing. I'm reading a book on God's love by David Jeremiah now, and its completely different. Focus on the agape love, which sometimes (often?) show itself in blessings...but the blessings aren't the only reason to believe, nor are they the reason God calls us to Him...

oh I know that remember osteen is a prospertity gospel type where god is but a geanie at our call. at least that is how he comes across. I will ad the caveat that the internet distorts one. just being fair. if he was close I would go to listen and observe. and then post.

My Pastor and a friend visited today and mentioned this video. I watched the into and that was enough, straight up, heresy for me. They both said they did not get past her intro either. Sad!

I posted something in the other Osteen thread that nobody responded to. Some people seem to be concerned with Joel Osteen's message (or his wife in this case) and whether or not he is a good teacher. I think he definitely helps some people and maybe a lot of pastors lack completely the positive message that he preaches. What I think we should take into consideration is what he believes a Christian is. Kind of like our statement of faith on CF.net. This is a statement by Osteen that I found. It is from 2012, so he could have changed his stance on that, but I haven't seen it published anywhere.

Osteen, when asked about Romney's faith, said the former Massachusetts governor is indeed a Christian – which is a similar statement to the one he made in January.
"When I hear Mitt Romney say that he believes that Jesus is the Son of God – that he's the Christ, raised from the dead, that he's his Savior – that's good enough for me," said Osteen.
The Texas pastor did say that the Mormon faith was "not traditional Christianity," but that Mormonism still falls under the umbrella of Christian tenets. "Mormonism is a little different, but I still see them as brothers in Christ," said Osteen.

I must have dropped the thread before you posted this or, or, or , or my old man plague kicked in.

I told many that I would vote for Mitt because he was and is the lessor of two evils. Mormons and JWs are both called Christian by the Left Wing Media but they are not. I hope that Joel was saved before he began this slide toward Satan but I have not seen any sign of such. His, having been raised in a Church knows better than to believe the Mormons fall under the umbrella of Christianity. The thing that floors me is his mom's approval of his feel good theology.

I can't say whats in Joel or Victoria Olsteen's heart when it come to God, but their message is pretty clear; SELF, SELF, SELF.

Self centered or God centered? The center of their "preaching" is about the individual first and God second.

Her opening statement says; When you obey God, You're doing it for yourself, not God. then she backs up and says doing it for God is just one way of looking at it, but really it's all about you. Come on! How weak is that?

These people are extremely wealthy, and all that wealth they have amassed came from their preaching; their ministry. they call it Gods blessing on them. People give these two their money in hopes that they to can be blessed like Joel and his wife. They don't buy their dime-store God advice books to draw closer to Gods word, they buy it to draw closer to Joels word. The Olsteen's would not be doing any of this if it did not PAY them first.

Joel Olsteen could say just about anything and add a positive spin and make it sound biblical. I can see him saying something like this;....... "if someone complains that you're spreading too much peanut-butter on your bread, just don't listen to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in you're life. Amen? Aman!" ......Boom Olsteen sermon right there.

Really well then I'm just silly, Lord please let there be a near parking spot, I'm late! I can hear myself saying that and meaning it. :blush

Oh Bill, I think you should watched it, it's only 40 seconds and Bill Cosby will make you laugh.

Since Bill has been a hero of mine since Vietnam, I might better do that, thanks!

Now that Iv am beginning to regain my composure... the worst thing about that video is about 25 minutes or so of very, very, good Bill Cosby humor was edited out of that in the composure of the clip. Thank you Deb.

oh when im late, I ought to pray rather to control my anger at the eldery and slow drivers. its not their fault that im behind. and when im late I drive more aggressively.

I don't care about what faith a man has in office. plenty of athiests and sinners that have power of me in the army and also at city hall. something called the first amendment, but I prefer that at least he or she has a morality similar to my own. in what is able to be reasonably enforced. but im beginning to think voting is pointless.
