its classic osteen. enough truth to make one vomit the real truth. that is why I don't listen to him. he might be saved man but his style of theology is mostly fluff.I don't know enough about Osteen's church, but that approach isn't the best. We are to cultivate joy, joy that persists even in trying times, but happiness...I dunno. And I don't know that we obey God "for ourselves." This sounds like Christianity-as-therapy.
I have prayed for that simply because of my wife. she has a back issue. yes at times I think god cares for the small stuff but we shouldn't pray for silly things eitherI vaguely remember reading part of one of his books...something in there about praying for a good parking spot. I don't mean to sound too harsh---I mean, the book may be over 300 pages--but...wow...
oh I know that remember osteen is a prospertity gospel type where god is but a geanie at our call. at least that is how he comes across. I will ad the caveat that the internet distorts one. just being fair. if he was close I would go to listen and observe. and then post. Its not that a good parking spot isn't desirable--especially if you or somebody in the car has physical issues--its that...I dunno...as I (barely) recall, the tone of the book was that God is just waiting to bless you with tangible, material things.
God is good. God does bless His children. This is true, but...
...there's a level of...I dunno...self-centeredness to the whole thing. I'm reading a book on God's love by David Jeremiah now, and its completely different. Focus on the agape love, which sometimes (often?) show itself in blessings...but the blessings aren't the only reason to believe, nor are they the reason God calls us to Him...
I must have dropped the thread before you posted this or, or, or , or my old man plague kicked in.I posted something in the other Osteen thread that nobody responded to. Some people seem to be concerned with Joel Osteen's message (or his wife in this case) and whether or not he is a good teacher. I think he definitely helps some people and maybe a lot of pastors lack completely the positive message that he preaches. What I think we should take into consideration is what he believes a Christian is. Kind of like our statement of faith on CF.net. This is a statement by Osteen that I found. It is from 2012, so he could have changed his stance on that, but I haven't seen it published anywhere.

Osteen, when asked about Romney's faith, said the former Massachusetts governor is indeed a Christian – which is a similar statement to the one he made in January.
"When I hear Mitt Romney say that he believes that Jesus is the Son of God – that he's the Christ, raised from the dead, that he's his Savior – that's good enough for me," said Osteen.
The Texas pastor did say that the Mormon faith was "not traditional Christianity," but that Mormonism still falls under the umbrella of Christian tenets. "Mormonism is a little different, but I still see them as brothers in Christ," said Osteen.

My Pastor and a friend visited today and mentioned this video. I watched the into and that was enough, straight up, heresy for me. They both said they did not get past her intro either. Sad!
Since Bill has been a hero of mine since Vietnam, I might better do that, thanks!Really well then I'm just silly, Lord please let there be a near parking spot, I'm late! I can hear myself saying that and meaning it.
Oh Bill, I think you should watched it, it's only 40 seconds and Bill Cosby will make you laugh.
oh when im late, I ought to pray rather to control my anger at the eldery and slow drivers. its not their fault that im behind. and when im late I drive more aggressively.Really well then I'm just silly, Lord please let there be a near parking spot, I'm late! I can hear myself saying that and meaning it.
