Happy New Year.

I finally got my kitchen somewhat organized and cleaned up to where I no longer have pause about consuming food created in it.

I made over 16 batches of cookies here in Nashville and well over a dozen batches of various candies. (I counted 5 batches of caramels alone) I also constructed 3 different gingerbread houses and provided 2 separate gourmet dinners for others.

Then in GA I made more cookies. (While recovering from a sinus infection) Added a few different ones too that I knew were various people's favorite. More gingerbread and house. More candies to boot. Even added coffee/Kahlua flavored centers as a new variety of truffle. Then there was the raspberry star bread with cream cheese icing.

Each year has it's successes and failures.
This year was no exception.

Cookies were successful...so were the various truffles this year. Last year, when trying to make liquid centered candies I discovered that tempering the fine Belgium chocolate was a bit more complicated than I remembered it being from 30 years ago. (Hey, we all have our fantasies)
This year I nailed it perfectly and I didn't have to use coverture chocolate (which tastes like nasty artificially flavored wax to get a proper finish) mixed in with the good chocolate. I retained the proper snap of how a good chocolate should be and the truffles flew into people's bellies. (A dentist was observed eating them by the handful popping them into his mouth like popcorn kernels)

But...

That liquid centered candy is still illusive. I failed spectacularly yet again wasting over a half gallon of Grand Marnier.

But we live in hope.

I got some new chocolate tools this year and a new digital thermometer. I think that I'm going to try to get a saccrinometer (sp?)
next year. Maybe that will help.

I also finally found a truck to buy. I've been looking for a while now...over a month. Just got finished loading up my tools into my "new to me" 2008 Chevy. It's white with 4 doors. (LT package)

Kinda nice and well maintained. (Kinda expecting it to fall apart) too good to be true is how it feels. My old Ford F-150 wouldn't qualify for "grand theft auto" because it wasn't even worth $1,000. It ran but wouldn't pass emmissions. The tires on it were worth more than the truck. The engine had over 300K miles. It was time to let it die.

*Sigh*

So tomorrow I have to rejoin the working class. I will call one of the agencies and let them know that I'm available to work. Probably will have a job by Friday. Maybe I'll luck out and not get stuck with overtime.

Party has to end... and I really could use the vacation by just going to work for a while.

Wow!!! You need to decompress and just exhale. That's a lot of work you put into all you made and I'm sure many enjoyed the fruits of your labor.
