Hawai'i is Different

During WWII if we hadn't occupied Hawaii the Japanese would have massacred everyone on the island chain and then used it to destroy the west coast and beyond.

So, where I have some sympathy for the homeless...the original natives? None! They are alive because of American lives.

Hawaii was a territory then, two wrongs doesn't make it right. im not suggesting that we give hawaii back but acknowledge that we did do them and the natives wrong and move on. im not for political correctness. I could go into how we desicrate graves here and in other places for "progress" graves of Indians were plowed over and also the mounds where they used(dead tribe called the ais) to make a road I often drive and the longhouse(casekkey,casaque ) was found and simply razed to make a community called castaway. im sure if the state allowed your ancestors to be treated like that you would feel different.

YES the food is very expensive. So is gasoline and the electric rates are sky high.

Yeah my wife says she can make fajita steaks. We are also searching for brisket. Finding a butcher shop presents new challenges of finding parking. Thankful for gps.

The Dole family has been very personally kind to the natives. They have built schools, housing, hospitals and universities for the natives...provided jobs too. And are treated with contempt for all they have done. I have no idea why they are hated considering all that they have done (when they didn't have to).
This family may have profited from pineapple but they haven't been like the Florida sugar industry. Very different.
Big sugar in Florida has been all that you claim and more. The Dole family has not.
I don't understand why Florida sugar is treated well and the Dole family is hated.

I don't see big sugar as bad. If it wasn't them,then local citrus would be blamed ,plenty of groves existed out there .that's another thread and problem from greening,etc .

Nafta didn't help ,and no one got oranges year round then either .pineapple was long gone by the 50s.

ABC is owned by,Disney those are all over Orlando .CBS wouldn't cover this as it doesn't fit the narrative of big sugar bad .nor would NBC .Orlando has two ABC stations ,one in Orlando and one based of Daytona but covers Orlando often.

I,grew up on,both of those ABC stations wplg,was one and the other was called channel 9.

Yeah sorry back to topic but it wouldn't surprise me a bit if there was some kind of Disney attraction in Hawaii. Especially with all of the success of Lilo and Stitch.

Disney owns the Aulani resort in Hawai'i on Oahu. Not sure if this had anything to do with Lilo and Stitch, kind of doubt it. The native Hawai'ian's I know did not appreciate Lilo and Stitch or Moana lol. My husband doesn't like to watch them with me, but the kids love those movies =P. I suppose I can't blame him.

How did you know that the Hawaiians didn't appreciate Lilo and Stitch? Is your husband Hawaiian if you don't mind me asking? Have aliens been attacking them or something? I know that the Disney company was extremely careful to stay true to the Hawaiian culture like surfing and hula dancing. Moana had excellent music but for the storyline itself it didn't really impress me all that much.

I'm not sure if you mean Disneyland or Disneyworld,.. but as much as I loved going to Walt Disneyworld, I just can't afford it anymore. It seems like not many other people can either which is probably why they have been raising the prices year after year it seems. Pretty soon though nobody will be able to afford it anymore and then unfortunately it will probably wind up shutting down.
