Going back again to Genesis...

The title of this thread is what Joseph's brothers said to him.

But Jacob (the boy's father) had a dream of angels and stairs...and it was good.

In Deuteronomy it talks about not divining dreams as the Canaanites do as this is detestable.

After this Jacob has no more dreams but he tells others what they mean. (Divination)

So...
Whatcha think?

i'm not sure what you mean

are you saying that jacob had one dream and after that he tells others what his one and only dream means?

or are you saying that after joseph had his several different dreams and told others about them and got sold to the egyptians as a result of his brother's jealousy that he had no more dreams - he only interpreted other people's dreams for them?

or is it a typo? - did you mean to say joseph and wrote jacob instead?

in any case it sounds like an interesting concept i never thought about before

In Deut.13:1-3?
If these dreamers of dreams say to go after other god's?
Yes, detest them!

Ok...
I was studying dreams in the Bible...there aren't many.

Abimelech had one...and gave Abraham got his wife back.

Jacob had one about angels and stairs.

Joseph had one about his brothers bowing down to him.

Daniel had one and so did Nebuchadnezzar.

After Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery, he had no other dream himself but using divination he told others what their dreams had meant... including Pharoah. Where Joseph became the ruler in Egypt.

Later on he did tell his brethren, that God will surely visit them, and bring them out of this land unto the land which He sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
And wanted them to carry his bones from this place.
But that was what was promised...

Jeremiah 23:28 Let the prophet who has a dream tell the dream, but let him who has my word speak my word faithfully. What has straw in common with wheat? declares the Lord. 29 Is not my word like fire, declares the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?
ESV

Apparently dreams and God's word are diametrically opposed.

So....
I'm thinking that Joseph, by having this special dream, has become a prophet of sorts.

Jacob, Joseph's father, had one...

But we also know that God is patient with the spiritually weak as what Hebrews 5:2 alludes to.
Hebrews 5:
2He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness.

So God can do whatever He wishes but obviously dreams aren't part of his normal repetoir and reserved mostly for the heathen and marginal Believer.

It's a portion of prophesy about the fall of Jerusalem where it's quoted in Joel. It has to do with God increasing faith amongst his people. (Because time is short and He doesn't want to lose anyone)

"Old Men" refers to those retired outside the age of priesthood. (age 20-50).
