anyone make your own ice cream at home? is it difficult? expensive? I'm kind of considering looking into it, but I don't want to get stuff and then lose interest and all that stuff.

I made homemade ice cream in Girl Scouts with coffee cans since I didn't have an ice cream maker. I don't remember all that much about it though so sorry. I know that I also watched them make homemade ice cream at the Lake County Farm park when I was a child. :) Sorry, I wish that I could be more of a help to you.

Its all about trial an error until you master it and create your own flavors, and when a batch fails it doesn't really fail because you just make something up that suits it because its your own creation. Batch comes out too soft then its CEs special soft serve cappucino and hazelnut or something. Batch comes out too hard then its CEs special rock slab strawberry and vanilla.

That's a good idea. I like making my own stuff. I've never made ice cream before so I checked at All Recipes.com and they have a zillion ice cream recipes. And youtube had 4 million hits on home made ice cream, lol. Eggs, no eggs, quick cheats and hacks and traditional uh, long way I guess you could say. Strawberry and chocolate are both easy and I found a mango ice cream recipe on youtube with only 3 ingrediants! That's my style, lol!

That's a really cute emoji. :) And I really like what you had to say too. Sounds nice and easy.

We have that stuff in Alaska and I guess that we turned it into a "Baked Alaska"? I don't know what because I'm partial to chocolate.

can ice cream makers also be used for sorbet? it seems like it'd be OK...but I don't know these things. Cuz...man oh man...my parents brought home some sorbet the other day, and it was -awesome-....all kindsa in your face raspberry flavor. I could go for doing that myself.

Vanilla Ice cream would be the most boring Ice cream in the history of mankinds creations. There is just nothing great about it. Its so boring its even refered to as plain Ice cream. Lol.

True, but that doesn't mean that it's bad to eat. That's all my mother basically orders when we go out for ice cream though and even she says that she's being boring lol

I don't know, but I imagine they could be. I love sorbet as well. :biggrin2

I disagree. While compared to all the 14 billion flavors of store bought ice cream (and anything) vanilla may be, the plain one so to speak...vanilla comes alive in baking. I love vanilla and use it regularly. I would expect that vanilla ice cream when home made is awesome and delicious. Better than any store-bought!

Go get in the kitchen for awhile Brother! You'll see.

Store bought cannot even compare! But it is cheaper

Like with anything else, it usually is not so. Yeah, you have to lay out more money at first (than store bought would cost), but once you have all the ingredients, the capacity to make so much more than you would get with a single item store bought purchase is very much increased. So if you were to add all that up (I made six batches of cookies for the price of a single batch in the store) Maybe it cost 20-30 dollars to make the first batch, but then what? I don't need nothing to make more batches! SO if you figure that in, it's still prolly cheaper than store bought.

Plus! Home made is gourmet, and gourmet anything in the store is expensive. So don't compare cheap ice cream with home made, but gourmet ice cream.

i do enjoy a well-done vanilla bean ice cream, personally.

So do I, I never said that I didn't. It's just not the most extravagant or creative flavor out there that's all. Although I personally prefer chocolate, there's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned ice cream sundae. Of course I usually always order it with chocolate ice cream at the ice cream shop. Dang it! Now I want ice cream and it's not even ten o'clock in the morning and the shop isn't even open yet lol! :lol I guess I will have to settle for some peanut butter toast for my breakfast which is still pretty yummy. :biggrin

Vanilla ice cream is a necessary accompany to make other desserts more than they are like pie, real vanilla ice cream and cherry pie is my favorite dessert.

I don't care for cherry pie, and chocolate is my favorite flavor, but yes, vanilla ice cream does go rather well with a lot of desserts. However, I personally would choose chocolate, that's just me. I just looked it up though to double check and just like I thought vanilla extract is used to make chocolate ice cream. In fact, that's what I thought your comment originally said. Vanilla is used in a lot of recipes to make a lot of desserts, however, it is good by itself as a root beer float or on a hotfudge sundae. :thumbsup
