The Lord gave us an example of how to pray. The incense that was burned on the Golden Altar of Incense (Ex. 30) pictured our prayers rising to God as usual they represent the Lord Jesus. It should not surprise us the ingredients number 5 which is the number of Grace. Each of the five ingredients needed to be crushed. We know the pressure on the Lord grew so intense He sweat blood. This happens when there is so much pressure the capillaries burst. The ingredients were as follows:

1) Stacte, sap from a tree very fragrant and crushed fine
2) Onycha, ground shellfish fragrance things feeds on. Crushed fine.
3) Galbanum, another sap. Bitter used to drive insects off. It to was crushed.
4) Frankincense: sap and pure white points to purity and righteousness.
5) Salt, a preservative and seasoning..

All these things were equal in weight as there is nothing out of balance in the Lord. So in our walk we are seeking to be balanced in all. Not veering to the left or right. Let all your speech be seasoned with salt.
As representing the Lord I understand the beating and being crushed that went into His life and prayers. As representing our prayer I am not quite as clear I know each item as it was crushed and beaten into fine powder they all lost their identity as the incense was mixed. Could this be a picture that our dying to self is a sweet fragrance to the Lord?

Dying to self is a sweet fragrance to God as when we die to self we put on that of Christ and pray after the manner He taught us.

Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name (we recognize God as our Father). 10 Thy kingdom come (kingdom of God is in us). Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven (we then know what God's will is while we are on earth). 11 Give us this day our daily bread (living word). 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors (knowing why Christ died for all). 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil (deliver us from the evil principalities of the world): For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever (God's never ending authority and power), . Amen. (Thank you Jesus)

Its sad to hear the people on here that have such a judgmental view of God towards them. Your thoughts helped solidify my belief it represent dying to self, I like hearing your insight and things I did not know or had not thought about. Thanks.

btw you and the other folks who run this do an excellent job. the place I was at before this was like a combat zone it was awful. thanks!

Thank you, you are so sweet. We have been trying to keep the unity of love within the discussions and make this a friendly site where all can come in and share with each other. StoveBolts and JohnDB have worked hard to make this one of the best Christian forums. I'm here all the time as I can no longer work and it really fills my days. Sometimes I have to force myself to get off here and get housework done, LOL.

Like 11:13b
how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

Many times in Scripture, Jesus asks the obvious, " do you want to be healed?". But for some, the continue to look back, much like Lots wife. They don't really want to be healed.

In the same way, Jesus teaches us to continue knocking, seeking and asking.

I'm in Texas right now, but when I was reading this chapter, my wife and I were on the plane. She was on valium due to motion sickness and when I showed her this, she wrapped her arms around herself and said, "we need a comforter".

I have the best wife. :)
