I posted this prayer on the Internet for an Atheist that
I was talking to about the Lord.

JAG Wrote:
"Here is a prayer for you {and me too -- and for all of us}

May the Lord bless you.
May the Lord keep you safe.
May the Lord make His face to shine upon you.
May the Lord be gracious unto you.
May the Lord turn His face toward you.
May the Lord protect you.
May the Lord protect all those you love.
May the Lord give you peace.
{based on Numbers 6:24-27}"___JAG

It was not well received even though I meant it from my heart.
The Atheist was sharply critical of both me and my prayer for him.

However , , ,
Another friendly Atheist wrote back and said this:

"Only you and the Almighty know if your prayer was proper.
We of course cannot know or judge. I have to say that
publicizing a prayer tarnishes it. They aren't meant for
mortals to hear, are they?"___The Friendly Atheist

I replied with this:

Miscellaneous Points:
What follows may strike you as insanity.
But I did title it Miscellaneous Points.
Sincerely offered prayers can be balm for the soul.
The older we get the more comforting balm we need.
Human warmth-expressed can encourage the human spirit.
I think our Intellects often get in the way of our hearts.
I enjoy writing my thoughts on "paper." This is why I am writing these points.
The human Intellect is not as warm as the human Heart.
The human Intellect can be a cold-hearted monster.
The human Intellect can be one cause of spiritual wreckage.
John 3:16's "perish" ought to be carefully considered.
The intellectual witticisms of Voltaire will not be a comfort to me on my Death Bed.
If I die from natural causes there will come a time when my Doctor shakes his head and walks away.
At this time I will need a Friend and a Savior.
So will everybody else who lays on their Death Bed.
Death is one common denominator that ought to unite humans, but it does not.
Humans are a killer species. Human history is filled with young dead people.

The hate runs thick, strong, and steady in Washington D.C.
The ancients killed each with shape metal objects.
The moderns, 21st Century, "kill" each other with their sharp words.
Reputations are destroyed. People are fired from their jobs --- "We're gonna get you."
"You disagree with me, I don't like that. I want you destroyed", many say.
There is very little Love in threads inside Thread World on the Internet At Large.
The World seems to never tire of Conflict and Hostility.
Offers of Kindness are often rewarded with Mockery and Ridicule.
Maybe a tarnished prayer is better than no prayer at all?
The principle of "Do No Harm" is salve for the soul.
"May the Lord bless you. May the Lord keep you safe" is Harmless.
"May the Lord be gracious unto you. May the Lord protect you" is Good.

I know that song

I like Billy Joel... he's got my jamm.

Public prayer doesn't tarnish it.
The Shema isn't horrible to say out loud... it has been sung by Jews for thousands of years now ever since Moses penned it and wrote the Torah.
(And if I got the name of the prayer wrong I'm sure someone will say so)
But I'm not sure if I would cast pearls before swine. "The prayers of the righteous man availeth much"

Look how often Paul got physically horsewhipped, caught up in riots, left for dead or thrown out like garbage because they thought he was dead. He dealt with atheists too.
Just saying.

Wow JAG,,,,you've said a mouthful.
Agreed on all.
Sad times acomin'.

Thank you Wondering.
I hope everything over there in "sunny Italy" is
going along just peachy dandy. Things are
getting topsy-turvy crazy here in the "United"
States , , , rioting, looting, burning, destruction
of statues -- all that amidst the COVID -19 virus
thingy. They're even having mini "mask wars" in
certain spots here in the U.S. of A between those
"that wear" and those "that don't wear."
Plato may have been correct: "Only the dead have
seen an end to war" --- at least war of one kind or
another.
In Forums on the Internet At large where there is a
lot of posting activity going on there is a lot of wars
going on. Oh well, at least "keyboard wars" don't
get bloody -- but you can get your "feelings hurt"
if you're thin skinned. , , ,/grin . . .

God Bless.

PS
Next time you're in Rome and get invited over to the
Vatican, be sure to tell Francis I said Hello! . . .lol . .

When I read that I suddenly remembered I did a thread here

I may not agree with myself by now . . .LOL. . .
{in that thread I mean}
_______

Regarding the atheists:
Its a dilemma. You want to help them. You have to talk to them in order
to help them. But they are a nasty bunch to be sure. But I will be honest
with you, as bad as they are, they are not as bad as some of my true blue
brothers and sisters in the Lord who will "eat you alive" if you upset their
apple cart. Nobody here at cf.net is like that, but "out there" on the Internet
there is no small number that are "looking for a fight" and they will "jump
down your throat" in a flash if you say one word that upsets their doctrinal
apple cart. And some are very easy to upset. What you run into is you
suddenly find yourself disagreeing with God -- I mean according to them.
And of course, you can't argue with God. Once they tell you, "Then you don't
believe God" or "Then you don't believe the Bible" the discussion is pretty
much over. There is no small number of true born again Christians on the
Internet that hold the position that "If you disagree with me doctrinally,
then you are disagreeing with God." . . LOL . . Ouch!

Anyway, life goes on.
Just duck and keep on posting . . /grin

athiests can be hostile online. like posters here and elsewhere but not so much in person. remember you might have to work with an athiest of that person.been there with a debate over use of masks, rather then debate and risk drama in church, I choose to delete my comment as it would have been easier in person to state my case if asked. and I would. I value church over being right on masks and other things. some hills aren't worth dying on

The lunatic when drunk paralegal at work .got into a debate ,she, got nasty and attacked my origins from my,Jewish side and was never the wusee she would see me leaving and entering city hall and say high As I did .I blocked her on Fb and I,have read her meter ,both electric and water ,her apt I have walked to from, city hall and I know once i hit that ,that section is about over .I,was bothered for weeks, rather then risk being dragged to hr or have the city Mr involved I,choose to keep it to myself
I'm over her but given how loony she got ,I won't be her friend ,she was calling for the police to go long before floyd's death .

One a few out there things she does. It wouldn't have been hard to make life hard for her.just not worth the drama. I make my own with out that at home ,lol

Next time you're in Rome and get invited over to the

The governor is not much better from what I hear.

Yes,,,I'll be sure to give Francis your regards...he always asks about you.

Much appreciated.
Tell Francis I said to make a harder effort to become more Conservative
in his approach to the Social issues because some of his flock has, of late,
been accusing him of being a Liberal on those issues.

Others of his flock have accused him of being a Commie as in Communist
as in Marxist. I think Francis is very unpopular with conservative Catholics.

Did you see the video where one of his flock grabbed his hand and held it
so that Francis slapped her hand away. She evidently hurt him because his
face showed pain. So he slapped her hand. I think the video is on You Tube.
It was weird moment.
_______

We have been to New York City several times. The Big Apple is truly a
One-Of-A-Kind City. It runs 24/7/365. I saw restaurants in New York City
that had no doors , , , no doors , , , literally no doors. They had installed
powerful fans in the door jams to keep the house flies from coming in.

Of course you mean Manhattan.
I grew up in Northern Queens. Very beautiful areas.
I never liked Manhattan much, but that's where the tourists have to go
because there's SO MUCH to see and do.

And those doors.....they come out at closing time!
They were there somewhere....
Unless something new is going on I don't know about.
Been gone a pretty long time.

As to Francis....you really know your stuff.
You're right about everything.
My conservative catholic friends are in an uproar.
And I agree that he should be more careful in both his speech and his beliefs.
But the CC is still more united than any other denomination.
But looks like this might change.
I have one priest here that announced (about 2 or 3 years ago) AT MASS, that
hell is not taught in the bible and APOLOGIZED for the misinformation given in the
past 2,000 years. Oh. If only he were my priest.

Yes Manhattan.
Regarding those doors:
It was decades ago when I observed that, and there actually
were no doors that could have even possibly been closed.
on that particular restaurant at that time. The door jams were
solid steel or wood except for the built-in fans that blowed very
strong currents of air to keep out the flies. The restaurant never
closed , , , never , , , regardless of the holiday , , , including
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They sold hotdogs and
hamburgers and French Fries in the busiest part of Manhattan
on a corner. The customer traffic was unbelievable.
'Course all that could be different now? Probably is.

Thanks for the info about your Catholic Church, I read it carefully.
By the way, I am a Protestant , , , a Baptist , , but I always liked
Benedict XVl {Joseph Ratzinger}. I read some of his stuff, he was a
very intelligent man and a good Conservative. I hated to see him
step down. I betcha there was "quite a story" behind that move, by
which I mean "quite a lot of drama" as in soap opera drama. ~ ~ Violin
music playing in the background ~ ~ , , , LOL , , ,

Say, if you got a minute, take a look at my new thread and give me your
thoughts on it. I'd be interested in reading what you have to say about it.

JAG, I'm protestant too.
But I'm involved in the Catholic Church now.
Long story not worth retelling.

I liked Benedict better too, as did all the Traditional Catholics.
Did you see The Two Popes? It was interesting and probably had some elements of truth in it.
I feel like there were many problems in the church (institution) and B just couldn't handle it,,,,OR, he didn't want to be a part of "the changes" that have taken place.

Will check out your thread now.
