I wish I could just believe and have faith but I don’t know if god is real. I really want to have something positive in my life. How do I find god? What makes you believe?

The fact that you are seeking for God means you can find Him. We have the promise that if we seek Him with all our heart we shall find Him
God always keeps His promises.
You need too read about God and hear about Him. Talking to God is a wonderful way to get to know Him and He will guide you.
It would help you to visit a church and get to know people. Ask if you can take bible studies. You need to read the bible and get to know Christ The Son of God and how much He loves you.

It is a good question.
I would recommend searching fo an online alpha or Christianity explored course being run by a church in your area, or to ask a church that has run these courses if they are going to run one.
These purses let you discuss or argue about an aspect of Christianity wihfear of embarrassing es self or committing oneself to joining a church.
Plus one gets to assess the Christians running the course and decide whether it's worth trying their church.
Otherwise the attending church and among questions or reading the new testament.

Or read Dr Strobel's the case for Christ.
I was very much like you an atheist who would laugh at believers( tbh I was secretly jealous of their faith) then when a life threatening illness came my way I asked for his help and he came into my life..I'm not the same person anymore..I'm new at this so my advice would be to pray and talk to him..seek and ye shall find

You're a very wise person to be seeking God.
Seek and you will find.
Knock and it will be opened to you.
There's not too much to do to find God.
One looks around and sees all that there is...
What or Who created it all?
This is the question that needs to be answered.
If you think everything came about by accident,,,that's one thing.
If you believe everything you see had to have a start, then you're close
to knowing about God.
Once you've determined that the watch must truly have a watchmaker,,,then you get to KNOW God.
I guess the best way is just to read all God wants us to know about Him....
Some book sin the New Testament would be good.
The books by John. The book of Galatians.
Even going to a nice church that can teach would be nice.
A simple church that believes the simplicity of the bible and whose
members are filled with love for God.
Even if you just hang around here, you might find a lot of information.
Start some threads with questions you may have.
Maybe under THEOLOGY.

Scripture tells us that if we seek the Kingdom of God first, then all the things we need will be given to us. When we place God first in life, we see him working through all circumstances and events for our good. Whether you are just beginning to seek out God or you have been a Christian for years, we should never stop seeking to know God better!

I believe because Jesus moved upon my heart. This happened after a worse than wasted life, and after I had learned about Him, but I did not actually know Him.
I think praying for God to guide you towards Him is a wise 1st step, personally. Far more prudent than the alternative.

that's awesome - i wanted to know that at one point in my life
i just asked God to prove Himself to me and He did over and over until i no longer doubted
doubting is ok - we all do it - God is the only one that convince us He is real - just ask Him to do it and He will - don't be in a hurry - you need a good answer not a fast one
it took me months to be convinced God was real - so for months i was talking to God like He was real because that is what i was told to do - but i felt stupid talking to what may end up being air - well i found out God was real so i'm glad i talked to "air" until God could work in my heart

You have already taken the first step in wanting to believe as you are knocking at the door and Jesus has invited you in. The first step is seeking to know Him and when you come to Him with a humbled heart in prayer it is there where you will find Him.
Each one of us has our own personal relationship with Jesus as we all came to seek Him in our own way. It's all about having a personal relationship with Him like that of being your best friend. How you do this is just sit and talk to Jesus wanting to get to know Him better as you start to learn who He is and what your relationship to Him is all about.
I would suggest to start reading the book of John in the Bible as this will teach you who Jesus is and what that personal relationship with Him is all about. In prayer just talk to Him from your heart and He will make himself known to you, but also be still long enough to feel His presence surround you as He speaks to your heart.
We are all here to help you grow in the knowledge of God and His Son Christ Jesus and don't be afraid to ask questions as we share the word of God with you.

I'd say before I fully believed 100%, I looked throughout the world to see what love looks like. Jesus, recorded in the Bible was the lightbulb moment in my soul. It's not normal for a person to ask God to forgive those who are literally torturing them. As humans, we tend to want to get back at those hurting us. Jesus has a supernatural love that I absolutely wanted.
Those of us further on our journey still have doubts like you.
For me the awe of creation is a good starting point. Feeling gratitude for life.
Dont be disturbed by doubt anyway. i think it is a necessary building block for faith.
Listen to the quieter softer voice inside you. the non judgemental one. The life affirming one. thats Jesus imo. The encourager. the patient one. who never gives up. who never loses hope.

I try to talk to god, but I feel unsure if he is really there. I feel like I’m just talking to myself. I want to believe but part of me feels like I need proof. When I was a little girl I had faith in god but as life happened and times got tough it’s faded away. I feel like something is missing from my life but I don’t know what to do.

If you want to believe in God but don't know if he is real, this is the message of the Bible: 'And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him' (Hebrews 11:6 NIV).
How do we know He exists? The Bible gives two main points of evidence:
1. Take a look at the universe (creation) and the magnificence of what you see and know about it. Astronomy has helped me understand the enormity and beauty of the universe. See this NASA site: https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2020/9-reasons-we-re-grateful-to-live-on-earth. There are many others produced as public domain images for use by anyone.
This is how the Bible tells us to examine this evidence:
"18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse" (Romans 1:18-20 NIV).
You and I don't have to guess about God's existence because:
- He has made the evidence 'plain' to us through the creation of the world.
- This demonstrates two of God's attributes (invisible qualities) - eternal power (omnipotence) and divine nature (He is God and has the power of deity.)
- These two attributes of God are 'clearly seen', based on what God has made (the universe).
- Where does that leave all human beings in their pursuit of God? They are 'without excuse'.
- God has provided adequate evidence for His existence.

I hope you're beginning to see the grand design that God placed in nature. Design needs a Designer.

The fact that you want yo believe and realise that there is something is missing from the your life is proof that God is calling to you.
Doubts will come but once you understand how much He loves you all doubts will disappear.
You need to get to know Jesus, The Son of God. Read about Him and talk about Him

I think if you took a poll of how many people on this forum have had doubts at some point in their life, and maybe even more than once, I think you would find every hand in the air including mine.
Since it's Mother's Day in the US today,.. you all might want to read the message that I'm going to post for my mom in a little bit. As I believe that a mother's love is one bit of proof that God does exist because they are true angels on earth.
What evidence would you accept?
Or what evidence do you have that there is no God?
A great many people like you have asked ' Is there a God?'
There investigations and there results are available to you.
May I urge you not to use feelings, but to look hard at facts.
Look at the evidence for Jesus, his life death and resurrection.
Ca you present a case that shows Jesus did not rise from the dead. ( A case that hasn't already been shot down etc )
If you cat than that is a strong reason for you to believe in the facts of Jesus's life death he resurrection.

I've already provided one piece of evidence for God's existence in creation (see my post above re Rom 1:18-20 NIV).
I mentioned there was a second piece of evidence for you to consider.
There is something other than physical organs inside human beings.
- Jesus said: ‘And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?’ (Mark 8:36 NLT); When Jesus died, what did he say to God the Father? ‘Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last’ (Matt 23:46 NLT).
Those who are not Jews don’t have the law. But when they naturally do what the law commands without even knowing the law, then they are their own law. This is true even though they don’t have the written law.
They [non-Jews] show that in their hearts they know what is right and wrong, the same as the law commands, and their consciences agree. Sometimes their thoughts tell them that they have done wrong, and this makes them guilty. And sometimes their thoughts tell them that they have done right, and this makes them not guilty (Rom 2:14-15 ERV).
Everyone has a conscience. This makes us alert to what is right and wrong. These verses tell us of God’s existence. He has revealed Himself to people through their consciences.
Before you can accept God's existence, you will need to admit his evidence in the universe AND in the conscience He has placed in you.
I trust you'll continue your journey of earnestly seeking Him.

A really good book that just might help you turn the corner is More Than Meets the Eye by Richard A. Swenson,M.D. You should be able to find it on line. Read the Bible, tell God to give you understanding. Ask Him for mercy. Tell Him you want to know truth.

IMHO, there is only one way to God and that is through the Person of Jesus Christ.
(1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;).
We see Jesus most clearly when we come to him (broken by our sins) by faith to Calvary.
Upon receiving His forgiveness for our sins, we know beyond a shadow of a doubt that He has risen and has conquered death, sin, satan, and this world system. The rest is a matter of growing in faith, through His Word, all the while producing fruit pleasing to Him.
But the important thing is, we must first come to Him, as sinners ( who was crucified for sinners) in desperate need of a Savior. (Jn 16:8)
