Thru Faith & faith alone these gentiles received the baptism of/were eternally SEALED by God's Holy Spirit (vs45)

No such thing as faith alone.

Faith must have the corresponding action of obedience or its dead.

Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:17

The “work” that James is referring to is obedience.

NOTE: Repentance isn't a requirement for salvation.

  • God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ,

If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”
When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”

There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment, a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always. Acts 10:1-2

Repentance DOES remove sin...
We are asked to repent to enter into the Kingdom of God.
Mathew 4:17 Jesus said to repent.
repentance alone does not remove sin repent means to turn from change our ways. the Blood washes our sins away ..nothing else repentance is what we are to do
2 Corinthians 7:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Hebrews 12:15-17 King James Version (KJV)
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Esau simply could not let it go. it wasnt so much the birthright as the wealth in it

Repent, in the context of the Gospel, means to turn to God, in submission to Him as Lord.

If we are called to turn to God, then by default we are to turn away from Satan as our lord.

This is what Jesus commissioned Paul to do.

But rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things which you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you. I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
“Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance. Acts 26:16-20

this is truth

Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins.

Only by the blood of Jesus are our sins taken away.

They way we appropriate the blood of Jesus is to obey the Gospel.

And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, Hebrews 5:9

I’m just stating my perspective from the whole counsel of the scriptures.

I hope to find where we agree and build on that.

Blessings to you.

Repentance to life.

That’s how the Gentiles were saved.

As the scriptures state:

When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.
Acts 11:18

In Acts 10:44, 45 You really have to take notice in those verses that it was after they heard the word and received it ( by faith) that the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles that day when Peter spoke to the crowd just as the Holy Spirit fell on the Jews that were more than likely already water baptized. I can only assume Gentiles were forbidden by the Jews to be water baptized as they were deemed unclean people, but now Peter no longer forbids them and even commands them to be baptized even though they had already believed and filled with the Holy Spirit. This reminds me of Romans 10:12-17.

I see that water baptism is only symbolic of God washing away our sins by the blood of Jesus.

If none of this removes sin,,,what does??

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

It's only by the blood of Jesus that redeems us from our sin when we humble ourselves before Him and confess we are sinners needing God's free gift of grace which is Christ Jesus as He paid the ultimate blood sacrifice for all who will come and fellowship with Him.

There are many OT verses where a SINLESS God repents. Gen 6:6-7, Deut 32:36, Jud 2:18, 1 Sam 15:11 & 29 to name a few.

God is not repenting of any sin in those verses as God and Christ are without sin, but regretting the disappointment of His creation.
Hello wondering,

I'll answer your,, WHAT DOES, question at the end

It's unfortunate, that people invariably, tie the word REPENTANCE to sin.

There are many OT verses where a SINLESS God repents. Gen 6:6-7, Deut 32:36, Jud 2:18, 1 Sam 15:11 & 29 to name a few.

Vine's Expository Dictionary of NT Words: Repent, Repentance
(Strong's #3340 — Verb — metanoeo — met-an-o-eh'-o )
lit., "to perceive afterwards" (meta, "after," implying "change," noeo, "to perceive;" nous, "the mind, the seat of moral reflection"), in contrast to pronoeo, "to perceive beforehand," hence signifies "to change one's mind or purpose"

Strong's Concordance #3340 - Repentance - Verb metanoeó: Definition: to change one's mind or purpose
Usage: I repent, change my mind, change the inner man (particularly with reference to acceptance of the will of God), repent.

Strong's Concordance #3341 - Repentance - Noun, Feminine metanoia: Definition: change of mind, repentance
Usage: repentance, a change of mind, change in the inner man.

Acts 10: 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all them which heard the word.
(NOTE: They Believed (vs43) & as Petr spoke (vs44) The Holy Spitit fell on then. No repentance, no water baptism, no circumcision, they brought no sin sacrifice to the Temple, no law Mosaic keeping etc)

Thru Faith & faith alone these gentiles received the baptism of/were eternally SEALED by God's Holy Spirit (vs45)

Acts 11:18 When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath "God also to the Gentiles granted repentance" unto life.
(NOTE: Repentance isn't a requirement for salvation. Repentance is a result of one's faith. God GRANTS/GIVES/LEADS us, via His indwelling Holy Spirit the ability to repent & to turn from ungodly/dead works. It's this God granted/given repentance, that leads to Godly works. A result/fruit that proceeds from of one's faith)

Rom 1:5 Through him we received grace & apostleship "to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith" for his name’s sake.
(NOTE: Gentiles are called to FAITH, which leads to obedience)

Rom 2:4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
(NOTE: It's not thru our greatness of obedience that we repent/change our thinking outlook. It's the indwelling Holy Spirit that leads us to repent/change our thinking outlook).

Rom 16:26 but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the "Gentiles might come to the obedience "that comes from faith"
(NOTE: It's thru FAITH that gentiles are brought to obedience/repentance/godly living)

Acts 20:21 Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, """repentance toward God""" & """faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ"""
(NOTE: The grammar article TOWARD. For the Jew that had/knew God & left/broke covenant Jer 31:32. He was to change his mind/course & return to serving God. To the gentile that never had a covenant with God. He was to acknowledge that God is. That he had sinned against his creator & is in need of a savior. 2ndly, Faith TOWARD our Lord Jesus Christ. Notably his sin redemptive work. Found in Christ's death (sins required wage, PAID) burial (proof he died) & resurrection (Gods receipt, sins payment received & accepted)

What removes/remissies/pardons sin? Faith in the sinless sacrificed BLOOD of Jesus the Christ

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Lev 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

Rom 3:25 God sent Christ to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
(NOTE: Propitiation = to make reconciliation via atoning sacrifice)

Acts 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,

Matt 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
(NOTE: KJV Dictionary Definition: remission = Forgiveness; pardon; that is, the giving up of the punishment due to a crime; as the remission of sins.)

Repent, repentance - to change ones mind is what we do when we confess we are a sinner and ask God to forgive us. "repent, prepare ye the way of the Lord", sound familiar, this is what John the Baptist was calling everyone to do. Repent, confess your sins before God and humble yourself before Him and be washed clean in the blood of the Lamb.

What God repented of, or in others words what He felt sorry about, is how His creation turned away from Him as we became such a disappointment to Him.

When we repent means we are sorry for being such a disappointment to God and ask for forgiveness as He makes all things clean again.

This reminds me of Romans 10:12-17.

Yes. Even starting in Romans 10:9-17

Confessing with our mouth that Jesus is Lord, is how we repent. Which is how we obey the Gospel.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10

  • with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

This is the act of repenting, turning to God in submission to Jesus as Lord., by confessing Jesus as our Lord.

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:16-17

Hi B,
You're all over the place in your reply.
And you didn't reply to my verses....so I don't really like to play verse tag.

I showed you how Repentance DOES SAVE....
Baptism does have a role in our salvation.....

Please answer to that.

You have also carpet bombed me with verses.
No can do.

Also, let's assume we both know the definition of words. This will cut down on a lot of writing for you and reading for me.

Could you simply reply to WHY repentance does not lead to salvation if Jesus said so...
And WHY baptism does not play a role in salvation if Jesus said so...

THEN, could you simply state what DOES lead to salvation?

Thanks.
