repentance alone does not remove sin repent means to turn from change our ways. the Blood washes our sins away ..nothing else repentance is what we are to do
2 Corinthians 7:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

Hebrews 12:15-17 King James Version (KJV)
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

Esau simply could not let it go. it wasnt so much the birthright as the wealth in it
What is a person repenting from?

If I'm repenting, I'm turning away from something. What?

When we're born we are born lost and in sin.
IOW,,,,we're headed toward satan.

When we repent, we change our mind...
we turn around and go the other way.
Instead of continuing toward satan,,,,the repented person is now moving toward God.

So repentence DOES save us because we wish to walk with God.

Mark 1:15 says to repent and believe the gospel.
This means that the person did NOT believe the gospel before.

We repent and are saved.

Acts 3:19

In Acts 10:44, 45 You really have to take notice in those verses that it was after they heard the word and received it ( by faith) that the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles that day when Peter spoke to the crowd just as the Holy Spirit fell on the Jews that were more than likely already water baptized. I can only assume Gentiles were forbidden by the Jews to be water baptized as they were deemed unclean people, but now Peter no longer forbids them and even commands them to be baptized even though they had already believed and filled with the Holy Spirit. This reminds me of Romans 10:12-17.

I see that water baptism is only symbolic of God washing away our sins by the blood of Jesus.
I do believe baptism is more than symbolic.
Why would Jesus ask us to do something because it's symbolic?

Did you know that some early church fathers did not get baptized until they were very old because they understood that baptism actually, literally, washed away sins...

Since they learned from the first Apostles, I like to look to them when I'm unsure about something.

Baptism, somehow, is real in a way I don't claim to understand.
But Jesus said to teach and baptize...putting both on the same plane of importance.

I used to believe it was symbolic, but I no longer do.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

It's only by the blood of Jesus that redeems us from our sin when we humble ourselves before Him and confess we are sinners needing God's free gift of grace which is Christ Jesus as He paid the ultimate blood sacrifice for all who will come and fellowship with Him.
Of course...!
See how easy it was.
I hope to hear from the other member.

Exactly.

Very good point.

it’s simple really, but so misunderstood in today’s culture.

A person either belongs to Satan, who is their lord or they belong to Jesus Christ, Who is their Lord.

It doesn’t matter what religion a person claims, Satan is their lord.

A person is either in the domain of darkness or they are in the kingdom of God.

They way we are transferred from the dominion of darkness into the kingdom of God; the kingdom of God’s dear Son, is by obeying the Gospel.

The way we obey the Gospel is to repent.

Since repent in this context means to turn to God, which means we turn away from Satan as our lord, the way we repent is to confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord.

For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10

  • with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Yes. Romans 10:10 is a very good verse.

The first step in being saved is to be sorry for our sins.
Then we repent and change our direction.
Then we obey what Jesus has taught us and continue in this way.
The obedience of faith, as you like to say.
Not by works are we saved...
but by belief and obedience.

After salvation we are sorry for our sins and confess them.
We only need to REPENT one time, and then continue in our walk.
1 John 2:6

We only need to REPENT one time, and then continue in our walk.

Yes, repenting is an eternal commitment to serve and obey Jesus Christ as Lord.

And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, Hebrews 5:9

so each time you repent you get saved all over? to be saved all i have to do is change my mind start being a good person?
I don't believe you understand the meaning of REPENT.

It does not mean "feel sorry for".

It means you change your mind, as you've stated.
Yes, you MUST change your mind,,,change your direction and walk TOWARD GOD,,, and not away from Him.

And you also have to be a good person. Many verses on doing good works and walking in the spirit.

Hebrews 10:24

I'm sorry J,,,,I can't explain better than I have.

i have read paul writing to the corinthian Church
2 Corinthians 7:9-11 King James Version (KJV)
9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.
where does Godly sorrow com e from ? -->conviction from the h.s

Psalm 51:17 King James Version (KJV)
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

when we are broken over our sins be ye angry sin not ...ever say a rather sharp remark that cut some one to the heart. to him who knows to do good and don't is sin . you never have to turn from.

i know of a doctrine pretty close to that..

I used to believe it was symbolic, but I no longer do.

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

If you believe what 1 John 1:7 says then what is the purpose of actual water baptism on this side of the cross. I'm not saying it's not important and yes, it does have a purpose, but yet many are not physically capable of being dunked in water. Even the thief on the cross believed by faith that Jesus truly was the Son of God and that day Jesus told him he would be in paradise with Him.

This is John's baptism and Christ baptism, Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

On this side of the cross we are washed in the blood of the Lamb as we are no longer Jew and Gentile, but are Christians. Christian baptism by water symbolizes repentance, cleansing and commitment as it identifies with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ and faith in Him.

John's baptism of repentance was a foreshadow what Jesus would accomplish with His finished works on the cross. The blood of bulls and goats could not accomplish anything, Hebrews 10:4-6, nor does actual water as it's only by the blood of Jesus for both Jew and Gentile now called Christians since that day in Antioch, Acts 11:19-26.

There is nothing wrong with being dunked in water if it is first properly taught what the importance is, but to know it is only an outward appearance to others of a commitment you have decided to make to Christ.

REPENT - change, transform, transfigure, reconsider

Yes, we only repent one time as repentance gives us that opportunity to receive a new beginning in our life as God wipes away all our past sin and remembers them no more. Repentance allows the door to be opened for Christ to come into our lives so we may receive his Holy Spirit to help guide us in our walk with the Lord and to show us a life that is pleasing to the Father. It’s through the Holy Spirit that we come into a better understanding of Gods word by allowing His Spirit to teach us all things we need to know for the purpose and time of ministry to ourselves and to others.

There is only one way for God to recognize who are his and that is by us opening our heart and confessing we are sinners and knowing that we need to make a change in our lives in order for us to have eternal life with the Father. It’s not our will anymore to make decisions in our lives, but is now we allowing Gods will to make a betterment in our lives. As we follow in the footsteps of Christ we are now dead to self and alive now through the grace of God who wants nothing more than to shower us with his blessings as we surrender all to him through the transfiguration of our heart through repentance of our sins.

When we ask for our sins to be forgiven they are not only forgiven, but they are also forgotten. Our heart/spirit becomes renewed again and we are given the Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of God made flesh in Jesus and given to us for comfort and learning. We receive the Holy Spirit at the time of repentance through the Spiritual rebirth from above by asking Jesus into our hearts. Some like to be baptized in actual water, which there is nothing wrong with that as it is an outward appearance to others that you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 for the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;

so each time you repent you get saved all over? to be saved all i have to do is change my mind start being a good person?

Let’s examine your question in light of scripture.

“What man of you, having a hundred sheep, if he loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness, and go after the one which is lost until he finds it? And when he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. Luke 15:4-7

Here we see that one of His sheep, wanders away and becomes lost.

  • Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!

His sheep who become lost, are called sinners, just as an unbeliever who has never believed.

Jesus says, when this lost sheep repents, their is great joy in heaven.

His sheep who become lost must repent in order to be “found”, in which they are reconciled back to God.

  • I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

Furthermore, the 99 need no repentance, because they did not become lost.

Do the lost need salvation, by repentance?

if that be the case were only saved one time

Actually in Matthew 24:13 it's only those who endure in their faith in Christ who have not fallen to the temptations of the world that will be saved from being cast into the lake of fire that is God's judgement against those of disobedience to His commands.

For now we are only redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and sealed by the Holy Spirit unto the day of redemption as Ephesians 4:17-32 teaches us how not to grieve the Holy Spirit. When we first repent we are instructed to walk in God's righteousness and follow His commands then we will always remain in Him, but after we repent and willingly sin then there is no more sacrifice for sin as we can not keep squeezing blood out of Jesus nailing Him to the cross, Hebrews 10:26-31.

So yes, according to these scriptures we only repent once, Ezekiel 18:32; Matthew 4:17; Mark 1:15; Luke 5:32; 13:3; 15:7; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30.
