When I'm feeling negative, I want to throw some positivity somewhere.

So let me share a recent personal motto of mine. "yesterday is a constant womb".

Meaning tomorrow is a constant birth. Today is a time to rebirth yourself. Do you remember when you were in the womb? I doubt it. If some entity larger than us is willing to forget failures, we should be able to forget them as well. If I'm going to "rebirth" myself, then the past is in the womb. It's forgotten. I'm going to force myself to click on a keyframe of the timeline of my minds video editor and I'm going to scroll down and click delete. We only get one life in this world. And I'm going to choose to rise up. So there's no point in dwelling over the past. Regret has it's place, but obsession can flap off. If I'm going to waste energy obsessing over anything, I'm going to waste it on becoming a better version of myself. Getting out of bed is a resurrection. The alarm on the clock is a call to a new adventure, a new life. Why be sorry when you can choose to be grateful for new opportunities to grow? Choosing to progress in gratefulness is a humble and noble acknowledgement that you were gifted with another second in time to make use of.

Wait your mind has video editing? How do you get that? There are some things I can't un-see. And things I can't unhear. (Or at least that's what I tell people at work before forgetting about it an hour later).

For me getting through rough spots helps with a shade of humor. If I can get someone else to laugh when I'm in a bad mood, it helps. Though when I'm mad my humor is more dead pan and can stare people down till they laugh more then I can do on a usual day.

Sorry to hear your going through a negative patch.

Thanks, but it's all good.

And I mean that figuratively, but it's a matter of taking a specific thought or memory that is unfruitful, recognizing it for what it is, and perhaps even using self-talk methods mentally or verbally. I tell myself it's not happening in the present moment, and not affecting me, and it now only exists as a thought.

I typically try and think of something when an unwanted memory or thought creeps in that brings me down. It's tough. I'll do different things sometimes upon recognizing that a thought is unwanted. It could be prayer, forcing my mind to recite a passage about anything, or just distracting it with what's around me "So right now I'm in the kitchen. I'm looking at the vase on the table, and it's a nice reflection of light, it's colors fade, theres a flower wilted on the side, so on and so forth...".

Like for the "unsee" aspect, I've ended up on wrong ends of the internet seeing say a picture of some terrible event that I didn't want to see. Well I'll just look up something peaceful, like videos of animals or something, and like you said maybe some humor.

I think it's a matter of building up an artillery of tactics that work best for yourself. Whether it be "affirmations" which I put in quotes because of the occult law of attraction implications. That stuff is dumb, but I think there is a psychological science of repetition. I think there's even the idea in Hebrew for "meditation" in scripture. It's not some term meaning woo woo new age bull, but it means to utter and ponder. I've even heard "hagah" to mean repeat or recite scripture to yourself, although I don't see that in Strong's, but that's not the only source on Hebrew. But I find repeating positive, and biblical sound, aspects to change my focus some.

I also see it like this sometimes. Think of taking a bowl. You put a few spoons of juice. Take a sip, and it's strong. Add more and more water, and the flavor eventually will become less and less noticeable. So working to focus on better things, and filling the mind with good things, I think it will make the bad thoughts less and less noticeable.

I hope you can find anything that will help you renew your mind in satisfactory ways.

What we think about and say is what goes in our heart and it lingers there. That's why we sometimes wake up with the song in our head...that we listened to last night. It lingers.

Washing it out of your mind with inputting something else. The heart is of a limited capacity, so, as you fill your heart (with the water of the word) with new...your cup runneth over so to speak and then the bad stuff or song or whatever is flushed out and is gone.
Thats all scriptural too if you think about it.

Essenaut that is one of the best "fight back" I have ever seen.
Well done! Excellent example to those suffering depression etc. If they have the energy of course.

God forgives and never remembers our past and we as a new Spiritual man/woman in Christ no longer has a past as we now look for those things from above where Christ sits at the right hand of the Father, Colossians 3. Satan loves to throw our past in our face, but now through Christ we have victory over Satan and he has to flee in the name of Jesus. Our past needs to be a witness and testimony of Christ who works in us and through us as we now let the light of Christ shine through us that will draw others to His glory.

Self talk methods mentally or verbally are that of the thoughts of the carnal mind with an "if I can then I will be attitude". It's a proclomation that you can be your own God as this is what the occultist Universal Church of God teaches. It's relying on self and not who we are in Christ as being more than conquerors, Romans 8:31-39; Ephesians 6:10-18.

The more we fill ourselves with things of this world, even "good" things (such as looking at animals/nature), the more we will feel the brokenness of our world. We must fill our spirit with what is good in the Lord's eyes.

As stated in Ecclesiastes, everything of the world is meaningless, and will pass away like dust in the wind. The only thing we should be focusing on is God and his Word.

Amen!

That is not what I'm saying at all. You can not be your own god. Also do you realize different ideologies use the same terms for a variety of different things? For example just the word "election" throws several different doctrines in the minds of men. To one "tongues" means confusing jibber jabber and another it means an actual language. Just because I say self-talk doesn't mean I'm talking about some mystical idea.

However from a psychological and biblical aspect, our mindset, words, and actions do reap consequence or reward. If you dwell on a false ideology long enough, it will be detrimental. If you're not allowed to self-talk in any form, then I suppose you're free to dwell on the firey darts of Satan that aim to bring us down without trusting the promises of God that aim to lift us up if that's what you want? Are you telling me that I'm not allowed to tell myself I'm a conquerer in Christ?

As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. (Prov 23:7)

I do apologize as when you used the word entity instead of saying God in your OP my mind went into a whole different direction. I see what you are saying. It's all good.

No problem. Entity was just the word that came to mind at the time of typing, and I simply meant it as a living being, and the sense that I wrote it in was actually with a psalm 8 kind of vibe that something innefable, great, and glorious, namely a Creator, would bestow grand things to such a smaller being in the scale of things.
