But I'm new here so I wouldn't know. Anyway, I realize that I'm probably headed into a heated kitchen for asking this, but as a Christian who loves Harry Potter, I was wondering what everyone else thought of it, just curious.

Why do you need to know what other people think of your reading preferences, really why?

I teach at a Christian school and run into this all the time......
Jesus said.....
If the root is bad the whole plant is bad...matthew 7:18

You can do your own research but I believe that the writer or producer of Harry potter is a proclaimed wich!!!!!!

I have not heard that Rowling was a witch, and I would be wary of actually accusing her of such. However, I have enjoyed the series for what it is, an interesting story. It is fiction, and none of it can be construed as real (has anyone seeing a flying broom?). Of course there is the argument where it can become an idol to someone, but so can anything else. There are demonic/satanic undertones in it, as anything dealing with magic will have, so it is important not to put too much stock in it.

Ok, you can believe what you want. I just feel that it's a fun fantasy. I mean obviously it's totally different magic than what the Bible talks about.

Deu 18:9 When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.
Deu 18:10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch,
Deu 18:11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
Deu 18:12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

I dunno. On the one hand, its --fiction--, so...a part of me wants to tell people to simmer down. On the other hand, notice how now the world is going crazy over the occult? Then again...as Christians, we are (ideally...) to engage the culture we find ourselves in, and be selective about what of the world around us we take in and such...we aren't called to completely and totally, 110% reject everything of the world ("In the world, but not of it").

Harry Potter strikes me as harmless enough, but I do think it helped set the groundwork for making the occult trendy. But...I also read that society's fascination w/ the occult kind of waxes and wanes...witchcraft and such were kind of en vogue in the 70s, in some circles. Maybe its just a cyclical thing?

Does it bother your conscience?
