As much as I love horses I really miss riding. Unfortunately, since I live in the city now (and I probably will after I move out as well) that's really difficult for me to do. :sad Yet, I still picture myself owning a horse of my own someday and learning English style, (since I took western back when I was a kid) how to jump and participating in shows. :biggrin

I just never told anybody this before because I'm going to get hit with lectures of how horses are so expensive to keep and it's never going to happen and it's just going to wind up ruining my dreams since I still want to keep them anyways even if it won't. :sad I can't help it though, I've loved horses ever since I was a little girl and even though I personally prefer cats and dogs anyways,.. I do believe that they're beautiful animals. :) Anybody else have some impossible dreams that they would like to share?

Impossible dreams no, unlikely yes.

To go skiing again, used to before marriage, but the wife doesn't ski, has tried, not practical.
So may be at some point just can't see it happening.

My sister was a horse mad girl, drove family holidays mad by always wanting to be need horses.
Once working bought a horse and had them untill about 15 years ago.
They were her passion and consumed her income and life.
Now she has dogs, 5 of them.

If you are determined you can have horses but you will live horses, she had a basic clerical job. If you want a career forget horses, family ditto unless he can pay for both.

Move here!
You could buy your own horse and have him kept at a stable close to my house.
It doesn't cost a lot if you help out with the chores.
He gets cleaned and fed and they do a good job.

It's also a beautiful place and there are great places to go riding.

It's not impossible.
It's not even that expensive.
Every Fall I usually go to a Men's retreat in South Carolina. Horseback riding along a trail is one of the activities.
They have offered me a horse for free if I would take it. And this has included cutting horses and generally good riding horses.
Absolutely great horses.

All for free.

And there's several places within a 20 minute drive I can stable the horses...the fees aren't that much either.

I really don't see any reason why you couldn't have your dream. Just make sure that Joey is in with you on this.

You will have to get a saddle and all the tack that goes with...but that is completely doable too. Lots of good quality used stuff out there.

It simply doesn't interest me or my wife... it's just a bit more expensive than a good dog or cat in vet bills and feed.

Shoes...

You know two things really interest me about your response,... One,.. Joey was telling me yesterday that he has some horsey friends who might be able to help me out and two,... The first response I get for this is from somebody who doesn't like horses. :lol (Or is it that horses don't like you?)

Never mind that second part, I didn't see the other responses until now lol well I still am curious about you and horses though.

Thanks but no,.. I love America too much. :)

What about horses?
I can ride... been doing it since I was a kid.
I was in my teenage years in Idaho. There was a lot of Idaho that was very rural at the time... several of my neighbors owned horses and we let them pasture in our acreage as well as cattle fattening up before slaughter.

Here in TN they are nuts about walking horses and generally speaking very expensive horses. But in order to get expensive horses you seem to end up with a lot that aren't expensive but perfectly functional and great working and riding horses.

I'm not sure if you understand what makes a horse worth $250,000 versus $2,000.

So this place I go in the fall usually has horses donated...they then offer them at the end of the summer to anyone willing to give it a good home.
If you can rent a horse trailer I'm more than willing to drag it to you to whatever pasture you have rented for it. (I got a truck that can haul it around)

I'm just not much of a pet person. I'm on the go too much to feed, care, train, and play with pets. Too much commitment. I got a son and that's enough for me.

But I don't mind helping out someone else who wants one.

There's nothing like riding a great cutting horse....they are well trained and usually fairly smart. Too smart for some people but that's because they aren't as kind or as firm as they need to be as horses need to keep them in shape.

If you want to see a great rodeo/County Fair all my classmates was in every year...

I thought you said that horses were mean and generally speaking that would mean that you didn't like them.

Btw John,.. I was just horsing around myself when I said that just so you know. I definitely love animals though and the only ones that I don't really like are rats and snakes. I saw a three foot water snake today and it nearly made me run into the middle of next week. :shock Anyways, this topic made me think of a couple of my favorite songs. :biggrin

Btw, John,.. I assume you already know that even hypothetically speaking you can't be bringing me a horse until I'm out on my own right?

I wouldn't say your dream is impossible, but unlikely at the time due to current circumstances. However, you never know when your life situation will change. A job move to another state and in the country on horse property could happen, I suppose. Perhaps you gain an inheritance of some kind and it's enough to go out and buy your own ranch. Maybe you meet friends with the same passion that are willing to help you out achieve that goal. You never know what life will throw at you so never say never!

This won't be related to horses, but, it's related to the "impossible." My husband and I in our marriage got ourselves into quite a bit a debt and then had kids while still in debt so it felt like the expenses were mounting on us. We were in the big city, our rent was more than we could afford, it was way too hot to even go outside a great majority of the year, and our car couldn't keep cold enough. It wasn't that the AC was broken in the car, it simply couldn't keep up with how hot it was. We were exhausted as grocery trips were often in the middle of the night (when it was still over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, but at least the sun wasn't hitting us). Bills kept hitting us and eventually we couldn't afford food and found ourselves getting help at a food pantry around the corner. We were stuck in a lease for the year and clearly couldn't afford to stay there and renew and they kicked up the price to over $1,000 a month, which was about $200-$400 more than what we were paying. Still, no where safe to live for a price we could afford with utilities and everything. We prayed for our way out, but it wasn't a fast one. We were miserable and felt like we were losing our minds after a while. My parents said it was okay if we lived in their old mobile home in a few months after our lease was over. We jumped on it, but we would have to wait a little over 4 months. The wait was painful, but God gave us our exodus. Before we moved there I also had a dream that my parents surprised us and bought us a mini van and thought, "No way, that would be too good to be true." By the way, I still haven't told my folks this dream, I never wanted them to feel obligated.

Consistently, we had prayed for years that God would give us our own home, our own property, and our own cars. We were tired of moving around more than a military family because of poor situations. We needed a place we could all call "home." After moving to the mobile home, my parents agreed to let us buy their home and property it is on. We were so excited to have somewhere to stay without worrying about moving within a year. That same year we were back, but parents had found a nice, used minivan and drove my daughters and I to the park a few times in it after doing maintenance on it and then they offered it to us for free. Surely, they signed it over to my husband and I and we still have it. Good ol' reliable. This was less than a year - things that in our own human mind seemed impossible and years and years away realistically with the debt we have and everything and God managed it in less than a year! We now only have 1 small debt to pay off (besides the house) - we are almost out of our financial rut! We have been able to help others more, which we are excited about.

So, all of this seemed impossible...we would get said lectures from real estate agents about how my husband hadn't been at his job for a year, they would scoff at our down payment amount as it was far less than $20,000, they laughed in our faces when we said we wanted to pay about $500/month on a house because that is what we could afford, and were very displeased when we wouldn't go for certain loans that we knew would hurt us more than help. Yet somehow they were always so upset when we would walk out and not return. Because my parents sold us the house, my husband had not worked a full year at his job, they didn't require a down payment, and we pay less than $500/mo. God did the impossible for us and we're grateful.

I have no doubt in my mind you can achieve your dream one day as long as God allows it.

Our next dream is to finish paying off our home and then moving to a bigger property with more acres so we can have more chickens and have some cows or goats...maybe some sheep or pigs. Also a place to grow fruit trees and plenty of vegetables. We want our own hobby farm =) It still feels a little impossible, but with God, I pray we'll get there!

Yeah, when I was young I wanted to date every beautiful woman I ever met.
It didn't happen.
