What are some of the most inappropriate ads seen on CFNet?

Book of Mormon (from mormon.org). It’s actually on this page as I create this thread.

I saw a gay oriented vacation destination being advertised once.

...
???

I keep seeing an ad for "sublucade" which apparently is some kind of medicine for those with a narcotic addiction.

I don't have a narcotic addiction. Never have. Never will. Not even a temptation to get involved with it. I don't need any kind of narcotics and have a bit of a thing with those who peddle such things. (Including doctors)

So where I see the ads... which are generated generally from cookies in your browser...I'm wondering how many of my construction co-workers are having issues.

But then I also see a ton of ads from those who sell used vehicles... especially trucks. Because I was looking to purchase one. (I have just gotten a 2008 4-door Chevy. )

It's got OnStar and satellite radio for free for a while... never used them before and not really sure how.

I don't care though. It's not what I am looking for. It's not like I'm going to start a narcotic problem just to take a pill. Nor am I going to dump this nice truck to get another. I might get the books in the scrolling header...I know someone who knows the authors. But I'm going to wait till I get employed. (They aren't Mormon)

Sometimes I see fluke meters advertisement. I'm an electrician...no big deal. Distraction is just a thing. I got what I need. Don't need more till I do. Then I will get what I need. But clicking on those ads helps pay the bills around here.

I highly recommend clicking on those ads. Even if you don't want the junk. They pay the bills.

And supporters (those who donate sufficiently) don't see the ads. (Or so Jeff said he set the settings)

This website has a server to rent requiring bandwidth, software purchases, and domain registration to pay for. One guy can't afford it all by himself indefinitely. Especially if he changes jobs or has "life happen".
It's not much to ask that the membership here help support the financial burden with either outright donations or clicking an occasional advertisement.
We provide an excellent "entertainment" and community environment for the money. (Which is a pittance) we aren't Facebook or Twitter or any other such group with thousands of people daily interfering with conversations. We are unique.
Ads, however mis-aligned with you, are just necessary.

JohnDB ,
Your correct that most ads are targeted toward individual browsing habits. For example, I get WordPress andc SQL ads everywhere, oh, and car Ads too because I've been to the dealership several times.

One last thing, we can't tell anyone to click on the ads or were in violation and they will pull them from the site. They already pulled the Amazon ads because we're a forum. I guess that's their policy.

Amazon ad is up.

I thought you guys allowed them and were getting paid for them until the debt was paid.

The only two Amazon ads that are still up are in the scrolling banner. I know Greg Stevens and I am advertising his book. The second book is one I picked up several years ago at a seminar at SouthEast Church and was able to listen to the author, Dan Spader, teach on it.

I tried teaching it at the church I attend, but nobody was much interested, which is why our church is dying.

I don't get paid for either ad, and those are the only two you should see. Your in a group that hides the rest from you because your a supporter.

As far as the other Amazon ads, they revoked my account because we're an online forum. They didn't pay me for the ads either, so I took them down, except the two in the banner.

I support Answers in Genesis, so I put up two of their ads. I don't get paid for them, but I believe in their work enough to support them. If you haven't been to the creation museum or the Ark encounter, put them on your bucket list.

I don't mind being open and honest about the revenue on this site. The remaining ads bring in just over $10 a month. The server bill is $40 a month which is the lowest plan. Currently we have about 50 active users per day. If we double that, we will run out of server resources and I'll have to pay more. I've already removed the advanced search function to save valuable resources.

I have no financial interest for this site other than recouping a portion of what I have financially in it and hoping once it's paid down, we, as a community can support some sort of mission work.

I'm not about competing with the other online communities for members. Instead, I want this site to reflect the biblical values in our community message and attract members with good hearts and a passion for not only the Lord, but for each other as well.
