People are panic shopping at the grocery stores.
I don't get it...I flat out don't understand why.

But I remember a story about "Tickle Me Elmo" when they first came out...
They were the hottest toy to have for Christmas.
People were going crazy to get one. Scalpers were making a fortune for them on eBay. (Amazon was in it's infancy and Amazon Prime was just a pipe dream)
A local radio station was selling one at auction and all the proceeds were going to charity.
(Early 90's)
A hope to be one day grandmother paid $1100 for the toy...no child was going to find it for Christmas that year...

Kinda nuts stuff.

The Walmart checkout lady told me that they fill the shelves every night...and by 10am they look empty once again because people load up on whatever...from lunch meat to toilet paper...
Shopping carts full...every last one of them.

We have no supply chain issues. I know of several paper Mills that can make toilet paper and one in West Tennessee that is dedicated to the stuff...the others can but usually don't...they make corrugated products and copier paper. Ain't even much of a switch to make toilet paper for them.
Packing houses that fill lunch meat bags and containers and bacon and whatever else of cured meats all day long.
Breakfast Cereal manufacturing...in Memphis and Murfreesboro... going to town...
yogurt factory churning out batches of every style and brand there is. Milk deliveries by tanker coming in from Florida on a consistent basis...

But the shelves are empty.

Where is the money coming from? What are they going to do with all the extra food? Where are they putting it now?

But why?
 
Take out is still going.
Fast food is still working their drive thru windows.
The US only has 12 patients in the hospital from covid-19...

It's not going to be bad whatsoever here...
I'm not sure what they are doing with all this food...
I'm not sure where they are getting the money for it all.
 
I'm panic freedoming. I'm getting out of the house and having fun wherever I can, while I can, before it all closes. Say what you will about the virus itself, but the non-life stemming from it is real. The weather be darned. There will be a time for cabin fever, but that time has not come quite yet.

No panic here in my local community food store. I went to get TP and a few other items today just because was running out no panic, and everything was full, in fact the TP was overflowing with spare boxes.

I don't live in the closest town/city but I heard it's going insane with brainwashed zombies cleaning up with loads and loads of food, who knows where everyone is getting the money from.

People were told to store a 2 week supply of essentials in case they get quarantined. They weren't trained in how to go about accomplishing this mission sensibly, so they try to figure it out for themselves.

No one is organizing the 2 week supply thing. During WWII they issued ration cards. In some countries they tell people what day it is their turn to shop, and what their limit is.

The current system is chaos.

Shortages of items like masks also point out how manufacturing leaving the USA has made America vulnerable. A service economy can't make things when needed.

That's all there are in America being hospitalized for this.

We are America, we have lots of effective drugs sold over the counter...most other places in the world don't. Even In Israel pepto bismol requires a prescription...

So...we have 12 people who are under oxygen tents or are on ventilators...with underlying health problems. (Whole country)

Look at Germany vx France. Germany has very few in the hospital but France has over 400. Italy's health care is just about to crumble from the weight of thousands.

We will be just fine. We have a "doc-ina-box" on every corner if not.

The Imperial College models stress the need for containment. We will be fine if 19 is contained until a vaccine and treatment are researched.

The report stresses the importance of the social distancing policies being put into effect. If nothing at all is done, 30 times as many people will need a hospital as there is hospital capacity.

Food and other essential item distribution should be done in an orderly fashion though. Long lines at the store are counterproductive. People in lines tend to stand closer than 6 feet, and a lot of people are congregating together. Shopping is not being managed correctly yet. Hopefully, they will improve the procedures. Get everyone food and meds while maintaining social distancing.

A good friend of mine works for the hospital system around Warsaw, WI and he sent this to me in a text this morning. He is the CIO (Chief Information Officer) so he does a lot of statistical analysis.

I've been keeping a spreadsheet to track mortality in the US. Last night at 1700 (hrs) US mortality was 1.8868%. As more testing is being done and cases increase, the percentage is falling. As of 0630 this morning (can tell he is is ex-military), mortality has dropped to 1.7278%.

Interesting fact... if you have the flu, apparently your less likely to get covid-19.
