my lifetime goal is to complete an ironman triathlon. Probably the one in hawaii. I was just wondering about how much time i should spend training. I spend about 3 hours a day now training and i dont think its enough but my parents say i train too much. also how can i find someone to run or bike with because i hate to go so far without anyone going with me. I have no problem finding people to go swimming with. Well if anyone has some advice please let me know.

thats awesome, do you swim competition? i do and it's great. i swim once a weekand i run about 2 miles a week but it's usually on a treadmill but i'm in georgia so i don't think we could run together but check out the gyms where you live!!!! click here hehehe

3 guys I work with have competed in a local triathlon a few times. The guy I know the best used to compete in mountain biking series and usually finished in the top 3, and won the series twice. The swimmer graduated from Clemson and was actually a national top 5 swimmer at one point. He works at the Youth center part time and actually teaches a youth swim class that my niece and nephew are both in. The runner was a track star in high school and all 3 of the guys destroy the competition each time they've competed.

Needless to say doing all three takes dedication and hard training. Good luck on reaching your goal.

I run everyday usually 3 miles. Sometimes I'll run 1.5 others I'll run 5. Usually I'll take a week off per month to take a break from it. I usually run on a treadmill but occasionally I'll go cross country.

i will be top 3 in nation one day, for swimming!!
atleast that is my dream, you run alot scott we are up to 3 miles a week now and that is along with the resistance bike, an ab lounge, and soon (hopefully) yoga.

I have a pretty sweet set up here. I usually watch a movie, or play video games (thats kinda hard to do when running though). Lately I've been watching Band of Brothers (my favorite movie/series) and each episode is like an hour long so I usually forgot about time and run till the episode is over. I usually play video games (Madden of NCAA) if I'm speed walking. Other times I'll just listen to music.

yeah i find it's alot easier to run and keep moving if you have music. i think my lack of coordination would not allow me to play video games and my not existant attention span ruins the whole movie thing.

It sounds like you're off to a great start Jess. And its always easier when its something you love to do. Good luck reaching your goals in swimming also.

hey Scott you have a cool talent to be able to do video games or speed walk at the same time i can barely walk and talk at the same time lol.. And
Good luck on your swimming Jess~!

I finished my first triathlon on july 9th. it was a sprint triathlon just 1/4 mile swim 12.4 mile bike and 3.1 mile run. Well the run was the easiest probably because i have been a runner longer than i been training for triathlons lol. The swim was harder than i thought but not that bad and the bike was really hard i mean i think my bike was too big for me cuz it was my moms dads old road bike. And i didnt know anything about aerodynamics and how to sit on the bike the right way by leaning forward. Well now i know after i got beat in this race lol. i came in like 284 out of 332 people. But i still have my goal for the ironman i will just have to train harder and work my way up there i dont care if i come in last place as long as one day i can finish the race. :)

hey man thats awesome.
i'm sure there is somewhere on the internet that can teach you about better aerodynamics for swimming and biking, at least you got in there and tried this time. don't worry you'll get 'em next time but i am proud of you for trying this time and for coming in 284. at least it wasn't like 300 and something.
