Greetings

Most Christians consider as I did that the coming or Parousia of Christ is future. However in my research I found some interesting stuff labeled preterism. The idea changed my way of looking at the NT. That Christ did come in judgment on the Jewish Nation in AD 70 as prophesied in Matthew Chapter 24. I suppose many have come across this theology surfing the web.

Nonetheless my findings of a third coming is not over so far. There are two schools of thought on the preterist view. Full Preterism and Partial Preterism; at the time I’m standing on a fence.

Full Preterist believe all prophecy fulfilled in the first century, and Partial Preterist considers most but no all prophecy fulfilled in the first century.

There are unbelievers that can see the writing on the wall of a first century return, their argument goes like this. “He said He was coming and it was a no show.â€

Full Preterist believe all prophecy fulfilled in the first century...
With good reason:

"But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then recognize that her desolation is near. "Then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those who are in the midst of the city must leave, and those who are in the country must not enter the city; because these are days of vengeance, so that all things which are written will be fulfilled. Luke 21:20-22 (NASB)

There was no prophecy left that needed to be fulfilled after the fall of Jerusalem.

...their argument goes like this. “He said He was coming and it was a no show.”
Their argument diminishes and demeans the word of Christ. If He was a "no show" after making such a promise, He is not who He claimed to be and we should start looking for another savior. God doesn't break His promises.

II Peter 3:10 "But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up."

The "elements" are not the elements that you think of, such as gold, iron, oxygen and so on, but they are the "evil rudiments" that go to make up the evil in this earth age. This includes the evil spirits, the fallen angels, and all the things and forms of idolatry that cause flesh man to sin. The time of this burning will be at God's appointed time, so this verse is addressed to all those things that go to offend our Heavenly Father.

II Peter 3:12 "Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?"

The "day of God" is the last day of the Millennium age. The elements spoken of here are those evil rudiments that were spoken of in verse ten. When the lake of fire comes into being, every thing that offends God is done away with. God's people are not going to have to put up with the things of the devil because all those evil idolatrous things will be gone. Those that have washed themselves in the blood of the Lamb, and repented of their sins in Jesus name will be taken care of no matter what comes to pass. There is an example of this in the book of Daniel, in the third chapter where the three Hebrew children that refuse to bow to Nebuchadnessar the king of the one world system were throne into the fiery furnace.

Like a cancer...

Here's what the Apostle to the Gentiles writes concerning those who would say that the resurrection is past already...

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

It doesn't get much worse than this.. Their words eat like a cancer and they overthrow the faith of some..

And if in this life only they have hope, then they're the most miserable of all people..

Acts 1:11
Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Dispensationalism became the most popular eschatology in the 20th century, peaking in, hmmm, 1988. But, it appears to be on the decline. Good riddance to devilish theology.

Unless one tortures the Bible, one must conclude that 70AD was what Jesus was talking about Olivet Discourse. Jerusalem will be surrounded by enemies, the Temple destroyed, within His generation. Check, check, and check.

The resurrection of the DEAD...

One simple reason why preterism is cancerous is because it says that the resurrection of the DEAD is already past.. and that's the BELIEVERS hope.. that these vile bodies will be changed (in a moment) and fashioned like unto His glorious resurrected BODY... and the whole creation groans and is WAITING for the manifestation of the sons of God.. to wit.. the REDEMPTION of our bodies.

The resurrection of the dead is absolutely and undeniably connected to the COMING of the Lord Jesus Christ.. in that Day, the Day of the Lord, the Day of Jesus Christ.. and to say that THAT has already happened is perhaps the most ridiculous of anything which could be said concerning the infinite glory of our Lord Jesus Christ..

His Kingdom is coming.. and that Day is approaching.. and perhaps the most ridiculous thing of all imo is that the coming of the Lord is also directly connected with the DELIVERANCE of the nation of Israel, not its destruction as so many preach and teach today..

We are not without hope..

This is one of the verses which I spoke on when my Mom (a wonderful Christian woman) passed away some years ago.. directly from 1 Thess 4.. where Paul speaks of how we are NOT without HOPE as are so many in the world..

That when HE COMES.. He shall bring with them those that are deceased and they shall rise FIRST.. and that we who are alive and remain will be caught up together WITH THEM to meet the Lord in the air..

This is written to the church of God.. and we know for a fact that the Lord is still building His church today.. for today is the day of salvation.. it has been for the last two thousand years.. and we know that He who hath begun a good work in us shall perform it even unto the Day of Jesus Christ..

That's a real HOPE for the Christian living today..

It's sheer and utter nonsense.. and worse than that.. it's cancerous according to the word of God, to SAY that this has already happened..

If that's not missing the forest for the trees.. then what is ?

The resurrection of the DEAD is an absolutely FUNDAMENTAL and undeniable GOSPEL TRUTH.. and we're seeing it DENIED right here in a Christian Forum.

Yeah, full preterism is kind of a sub-cult. They look at the 70a.d. events and say, yep, that's it.

Uh, no, it's not the end game whatsoever.

Besides that the severe persecution of Christians came BEFORE 70a.d.

Paul was beheaded, supposedly in Rome prior to 70a.d. and Peter was also crucified during that same persecution period.

All Peterists still have hope of an afterlife.

The ROOT and the offspring of David..

Many Christians have been taught today that the church of God is grafted into Israel.. although this is blatantly incorrect.. the church of God is in CHRIST.. for He alone is the ROOT and the offspring of David..

Right now, the nation of Israel is CUT OFF from the ROOT (Christ) and their house has been left desolate.. Israel remains blinded in part until the fulness of the GENTILES be come in.. and they shall be grafted back into the ROOT of CHRIST in the time of the end..

FOR THEN shall the DELIVERER COME.. and He shall turn ungodliness from JACOB..

As pertaining to the GOSPEL they (the nation of Israel) are enemies and yet they (the nation of Israel) are beloved for the sake of the fathers.. and more importantly.. because of God's ELECTIVE purposes.

It is perhaps the most ignored truth in the Christendom today and ignoring this truth results in our becoming wise in our own conceits.

Re: The ROOT and the offspring of David..

Don't you mean, "Jesus and those who are the natural children of Jacob and those who follow the Talmud are the root and offspring of David."? That's what you appear to believe.

Israel is the church. That's blatantly taught in Ephesians 2. That's taught by Paul's comments about graphing in Romans. That's taught by Jesus who himself rejects the natural children of Jacob who rejected Him.

Right now, the nation of Israel is CUT OFF from the ROOT (Christ) and their house has been left desolate.. Israel remains blinded in part until the fulness of the GENTILES be come in.. and they shall be grafted back into the ROOT of CHRIST in the time of the end..

What are you saying? That the last generation of Jews will be saved, and to hades with all the rest? Or, do you think Jews who die in disbelief will be saved retroactively?

FOR THEN shall the DELIVERER COME.. and He shall turn ungodliness from JACOB..

I should catch you up on the arrival of Christ about 2000 years ago.

As pertaining to the GOSPEL they (the nation of Israel) are enemies and yet they (the nation of Israel) are beloved for the sake of the fathers.. and more importantly.. because of God's ELECTIVE purposes.

The state of Israel are enemies of the Gospel, but they are not the elect. Paul is not speaking about Talmudic Jews. Paul is speaking about about pre-messianic biblical Jews of the first century.

It is perhaps the most ignored truth in the Christendom today and ignoring this truth results in our becoming wise in our own conceits.

You want to know what's really ignored? Who's really a Jew.

I've tried for 15 years to get some one to give a scriptural definition and delineation of the 'dispensations'. Odd isnt that since only through the understanding of the dispensations can the whole of scripture be understood that no one has yet offered such a study for examination.? doesnt it follow that understanding and defining the dispensations must be the first step ?

Not all of the prophesies have been fulfilled. 1/3 of the earth has not been destroyed, the sun has not been darkened (other than normal eclipses) and the moon will not give its light, the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken. Matt 24:29. The Lord promises to deliver us from God's wrath . Rom 5:9, 1 Thess 1:10, 5:9 Jesus is yet to come. Not all of the land promised to Abraham has ever even been given to the Jews.

All the natural/human prophesies have been fulfilled. It's by these that we know the supernatural prophesies have also been fulfilled spiritually. Jerusalem surrounded by armies, the temple destroyed, in Jesus' generation. Check, check, and check. Now, you're waiting for the sun and moon to darken, and for the stars to fall -- because you take these supernatural events literally. They're symbols.

All the land promised to Abraham has been given to Abraham's children, the Arabs. All the spiritual promised land (Heaven) has been given to Abraham's spiritual children, Christians. There are no real Jews but Christians. Those you call Jews are not Jews, but are followers of the Talmud. They are as irrelevant to God's plans as are those who follow the Koran.
