If you are unmarried to somebody but engaged to that person? I'm not asking for myself but for a friend of mine who claimed that she was a Christian but she was planning on breaking up with the guy she cheated on anyway.

Are you talking sex or just realizing that person is not the one for you.

I'm not sure. Like I said this wasn't me who did it. I guess either or for an answer.

When one believes the sex act constitutes marriage you can see where that would lead... to realize your Mr./Miss Right is not right for you is not adultery.. that is being smart..
Keeping in mind sex belongs in marriage
The State is responsible before God and has recognized historically the importance of marriage. God has given us the State to run our affairs. (Romans 13) We have our traditions and ceremonies and they all are important because they point to a deeper truth regarding marriage of a man and a woman. . Our traditions are not without purpose. Want to get married? Good. Get a legal marriage that is recognized by the State as God has given the State the authority over our lives and we are to submit to those authorities. A marriage is entering into a contract - an agreement - between two people. Marriage is more than the ceremony and the legal document from the State - BUT - such things are part of the whole.

Two people, deciding on their own, absent from the State and absent from any governing authorities, to live together and raise a family is not a marriage. It's two people who are living together as if they are married. Ceremony matters and vows before God and men matter as well.

If that couple acted like they were married.. sleeping together .. then in my view a different partner would be adultery .. Messed up huh... THis is why we need or should trust Gods plan.. Speaking her of God's plan for marriage..

I agree with you to a point but let me just say this, I think both people need to have commitment for any relationship to work. That includes dating, that includes sex, be in engaged, and even deciding to be a parent or adopting a child. (like I was) You have to know what you are signing up for before you agree to it.

Sex out side of marriage is sin ... you are advocating building a relationship on sin.

I meant sex in general. I didn't mean it as like before marriage after marriage I was just saying in general. I wasn't trying to promote anything and I'm sorry if you took it that way.

And just because I have my opinions about what constitutes a marriage in God's eyes doesn't mean that I'm going to share them and tell you that you should sin.

But yeah just thought I would like to clear that up the fact that I wasn't actually promoting anything. Anyway,.. moving on.

This question, or its type, comes up every now and then.
Anyway, if two are together intimately and are not married, it's called fornication.
Adultery is when one of the persons, or both, is married.

Like I said I appologize. I never meant it that way at all. Obviously God's opinion matters to me otherwise I would not have this signature to prove it. That's all I am going to say.

It's one sentence you said that actually made me laugh.
You said commitment is necessary, even when it comes to sex.
That IS pretty funny !!
Here it is. I'm sure you didn't mean it the way it sounded:

No, that's the whole entire point I didn't. I actually meant that if two people are in a sexual committed relationship but yet one isn't staying faithful to the other one then there's a problem. I didn't say that included sex before marriage. Or mean it that way rather.
