I believe that Jesus is God, but what do you say to people who claim that Thomas' words were just an exclamation, like "Oh my God! I can't believe it!"?

The TOG

I'd say Jesus identified Himself as God "I am "

Exo 3:14 KJV And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
Joh 8:58 KJV Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Jesus had the power to save which is restriced to God.

Luk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
Isa 43:11 KJV I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

Jesus accepted worship which belongs to God alone

Php 2:10-11 KJV That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; (11) And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Mat 28:17 KJV And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
Exo 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

The greatest love for a man is to lay down his life for a freind. Yahweh didn't show thje greatest love unless He died in some way.

Joh 15:13 KJV Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

And we have the prophecy from Isaiah

Isa 9:6 KJV For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Oh I forgot Jesus grants remission from sin which God alone can do now where's that scripture again...

John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 10
30 I and My Father are one.”

.

It's also important to acknowledge that Jesus is God deity.
Jesus is not the Father, but has equal deity too the Father.
This is the mystery.

de·i·ty
noun, plural de·i·ties.
1. a god or goddess.
2. divine character or nature, especially that of the Supreme Being; divinity.
3. the estate or rank of (a) god: The king attained deity after his death.
4. a person or thing revered as a god or goddess: a society in which money is the only deity.
5. the Deity, God; Supreme Being.

be·get
verb (used with object), be·got or ( Archaic ) be·gat; be·got·ten or be·got; be·get·ting.
1.(especially of a male parent) to procreate or generate (offspring)

I believe Jesus is God in the flesh or was when he walked on earth.

Matthew 1:23 KJV
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Multiple, multiple mentions of it throughout scripture. Both old and new testament, though the NT is more direct than the OT.

Only God can forgive sins. Dear mary did you know when you kissed your babies head you kissed the face of God?

My favorite cover of this. Not the most polished and professionally done, but just seems so real to me, so from the heart.

Matthew 1:23 KJV

Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself giveth to you a sign, Lo, the Virgin is conceiving, And is bringing forth a son, And hath called his name Immanuel,

Do you think Jesus is God?

Yes, because Jesus said He was. He was so clear about it that the Jews wanted to stone him because that was the punishment for someone who falsely claimed to be the Christ...

30 I and the Father are one.”
31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”

33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”

Do you think Jesus is God?

Yes, He is the Son of God.

The only Begotten Son.

He is YHWH!

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
1 Timothy 3:16

That may be true of the OT, but the NT applies OT usages of YHWH to Jesus:

Rom 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Rom 10:11 For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."
Rom 10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.
Rom 10:13 For "everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (ESV)

Not only is this OT use of YHWH (Joel 2:32) applied to Jesus, it is applied in the context of salvation.

Heb 1:10 And, "You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; (ESV)

While YHWH doesn't appear in the OT passage (Pslams 102:25-27), clearly the OT passage is directed to YHWH, hence why the writer of Hebrews inserts 'Lord'. The connection is unmistakable.

Another interesting passage is 1 Peter 3:12-15:

1Pe 3:10 For "Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;
1Pe 3:11 let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.
1Pe 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."
1Pe 3:13 Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good?
1Pe 3:14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled,
1Pe 3:15 but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, (ESV)

Within the context of honoring "Christ the Lord as holy" in our hearts, we see Peter quoting Psalms 34:12-16, clearly speaking of YHWH.

And there is always John 8:58, where Jesus uses the Greek equivalent of YHWH of himself:

Joh 8:58 Jesus said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." (ESV)

Or John 18:5-6:

Joh 18:5 They answered him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am he." Judas, who betrayed him, was standing with them.
Joh 18:6 When Jesus said to them, "I am he," they drew back and fell to the ground. (ESV)

Here "he" is added in by the translators and is not in the Greek text. Interesting that "they drew back and fell to the ground" and Jesus saying "I am."

To address this point of yours specifically--" Being a personal name (like “Jesus,” “John,” “Mary,” etc.) this name belongs to a single individual. This single person who is God is not the Holy Spirit. He is not the Son of God. He is the Father alone!"--I give this relevant passage:

Mat 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (ESV)

Clearly we see the singular "name" but that that specific "name" consists of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. A name can belong to a single being, as it is used of God. Given what I have above, that singular name is quite likely, and best understood as, YHWH.

It shouldn’t be surprising, then, if holy spirit is not a person, to find this single instance of the word “name” being used with “the holy spirit” where it is used in the phrase beginning with “in the name of...” which is specifically linked to the meaning of “authority,” “power,” etc.

What should be surprising (beyond all credibility, in fact) would be that the holy spirit is a person, equally God, who never has the word onoma (“name”) used for “Him” in its most-used sense of “personal name” (as do the Father, YHWH, and the Son, Iesous, - hundreds of times).

Yes, the holy spirit is never called by a personal name, and Matt. 28:19 is the only instance of onoma being applied to the holy spirit at all!

Hi Teddy. The Holy Spirit is indeed a person. He can be grieved and quenched. He also has feelings, a will and intellect.
