This subject when looked at from a Biblical view could be the same as thinking of and performing murder. What have we let loose on our Children? Remember Jesus said that even the thought was a Sin.

Children are learning about emotions. How often n an argument do they cry 'I hate you!' etc etc etc.
Yes over exposure does de sensitise one, hence the more and more realistic graphics.

But are the children you are concerned about Christian?
Are they being shielded from the influences of an ungodly world?

If not they like all Christians I'll have to repent and learn new habits.

I had a Grandmother that said, "give me a Child before the Age of 8 and the Lord through me would place a foundation in that Child that they can come back to if they go astray." I believe what She said was correct because it worked for Me. All the Children of Man should be given the chance to hear the Gospel. To those who speak differently, don't be foolish. We should all do our duty.

I guess this would have to do with your purpose for playing the game.

I play some role-playing games, and will generally play a "good" character. So, I will not get involved in the killing of innocents or stealing from people, but I will engage in fights against what would be considered an evil character.

Now if an individual is playing these types of games in order to develop and evil character, that could be a problem.

Do you think it is possible for the game to be an outlet for pent up frustration or discouragement? Sort of like a stress release where the fantasy plays out the frustration so the individual is less inclined to play it out in real life.

For some, it could be. Although it depends on the individual and the game. For me, if I want to unwind I usually play a city building game or something like Railroad Tycoon. I generally will get frustrated when playing a role-playing game, depending on the intensity and gameplay style.

As long as the child doesn't want to murder anybody for real I don't think that counts but that's just my opinion. I play Tomb Raider so to me a game is just a game. :shrug

Having played online for many years, I can tell you many dysfunctional people use games as, like you say, an emotional outlet. Many though use games for social interaction. Many in the gaming world are lost and have little to no moral compass.Editing to add this last sentence....I am one of those dysfunctional people who used games to cope.

You have to know what is your light. Others can offer, only One can give. If you have Your Holy Spirit what can I say, follow your light if it is the true Light. If not, then you can be deceived but even worst you can lead others astray. I would advise you to Soul search this again.

To all that use games to cope. If that which makes you happy is taken from you, can you still be happy? If we look to something that isn't Who Calls Your Name at the End of Our Time then We looking to a false image to solve our frustrations. Come out of Babylon to see the real picture not the false image. Where Your Heart is , there your treasure will lie. Where do you want your treasure to be? Then start moving toward it.

Fine if the children are in your care. We live in an age that does not value Christianity or Christian morality.
Like the early Christians we are seen as a strange group t best and a group to be eradicated at worst.

You of course have raised your concerns at your local school, how did they respond?

Have you contacted any of the game producing companies?

To be practical how does your church attract non church children to its youth functions?
Do you have more non church children in attendance or are they mainly children of church members?

I used gaming to allow me to sort all the unsorted emotional luggage. I needed time and a place to vent while I sorted the magnitude of the abuse I endured. It served its purpose. I've sorted the luggage and assessed the damage. It gave me time to do that.

I can see there will be a lot of suicide and anger taken out into society if we don't get our technology conveniences and dream machines. Our fortitude to handle hardship is weakening and so is our ability to see right from wrong. It is better to have a friend who frowns and tells you the truth however hard it may be to stomach, then to have an enemy that tells you that you’re doing just great and everything is fine.

To all these things you've mentioned I can say you may not make a difference.....but you can correct this in yourself. It start there first. After correcting this in yourself then if moved by the Spirit, Bloom wherever you are planted. Be that beauty that can still grow from death and decay, from something soiled and dirty. Symbolically become the flower of return helping show the way back for others always reaching for the Sun (Son).

Wow Mychael....I agree with everything you've said.

We are desensitizing our children and they're becoming more and more violent.

Every teacher I know tells me that children have changed drastically in the last 10 years. 10 years. Not a generation or two. And the games are becoming worse and worse. And it seems to me that you understand why: Elevation for satisfaction.

It's also making families be further apart because everyone either has a game or a phone in their hands.

What is also very scary is that these games are copied...strange things happening in London, for instance. (I don't live there).

I've been worried and discussing this from the beginning...years ago. It's just getting worse and who knows where the end will be?
Holograms? Virtual worlds? I think so.

My father was an electrition. I never was formally trained however I dabbled. Any speaker can be reversed to being a microphone. Anything you look at electrically (A tv, computer moniter smart phone) can watch you back. A program for computers can write subliminal messages to anyone watching tv all the way to your cellphone. Through constant involvement with these devises your sub conscience could be trained in a different language to bring to reality a Manchurian Candidate scenario when fully triggered that the individual wouldn't be aware that they were programed or used in this way, which I plan to do a different post debate on that exact subject in the future to wake the sleeping church.

Btw, I used to have that game. (Railroad Tycoon)

Well, even taking your last post here with a grain of salt, we most definitely live in an age of gov/corporate surveillance and manipulation. I can confidently assert most people on disability for psyche/emo reasons are most likely under gov/corporate surveillance/manipulation to some degree or another. Their easy targets and easily culled from the herd.

Oh yeah btw, I might have had Roller Coaster Tycoon not Railroad Tycoon, or maybe I had both, I honestly can't remember now. :confused

While not in your type of issue ,I have used gamimg to escape ,for years movies, music are and were that for many .I'm not suggesting staying there forever but as you know. Its not easy to simply stay plugged into reality when dealing with life and church folks and friends can be superficial and shallow ,aloof from the issue one has.I have been on both sides.I have an understanding pastor ,yet not so understanding saved friends or as I tend to think acquaintances. With them ,I feel out of place ,not quite one of them .I'm not sure if they do that deliberately ,or its my eccentricities.probably both .it doesn't make it easy when I have no cable, don't go to movies ,nor kids . yet with my pastor its the opposite.

I'm sure I have come across as aloof ,etc to others ,escapism is a respite and shouldn't be a permanent thing . I have before salvation used exercise, martial arts for escaping the crappy things going on .
