"dropped like a sack of spuds" doesn't generate the same pictures in everyone's mind.
Most people think of that 10-20lb sack of potatoes from the local grocery...

However,
My mind goes to those 100 lb burlap bags of potatoes that go kinda off kilter when they get dropped. You about have to give them a little shove to get them off your shoulders because that burlap grabs and will seriously give you a friction burn from it's rough texture.

In relation to the context I used; I was referring to a sack such as the following image. It's rare, in the United Kingdom, to see sacks of potatoes anymore. People usually buy their potatoes in a plastic bag containing around six.

Depending on context, dropped like a sack of potatoes to me either means to disassociate as quickly as possible or cold cock someone.

For example, if I were to explain how one of my early girlfriends broke up with me I could use the phrase, "She dropped me like a sack of potatoes." Or, if I were to explain how a boxer might have finished a fight I might say, "He dropped him like a sack of potatoes."

In my post, I was referring to the latter. In reference to the first description you've provided, I would say, 'sank like lead'.

My point was although it was probably unintentional, WIP made me feel like an idiot. :/
Sometimes you take things waaaay too personally.
How many times do we use the phrase, "It's just common sense!"

There's a saying that one of my high school teachers used quite often. "Common sense is not so common." Common sense is not something we are born with. It is a learned thing. The phrase "common sense" just means that it is common knowledge within a group because a lot of people have been exposed to it and understand it. It has nothing to do with intelligence and everything to do with exposure.

Yes I know we all have our flaws. Admittingly I often take things a bit more personal than I should, you have admitted that sometimes you come off across as a bit more bossy and harsh than you want to,.. and then there's John who can just be an annoying little git sometimes but hey,.. he knows I love him anyways. :tongue

I suppose it depends on the child. Spanking can help more rebellious children be disciplined, but the easy minded and more obedient and listening children, you could just make a face or talk to them sternly. My gran and uncle used to use the belt and shoes, but i am a black man what can i expect.
