I find it ironic that the same multinational conglomerate that owns Fox News also owns a publisher that, in this particular instance, was willing to appease the antisemitism of some Islamic nations. I also imagine that the many Christian and Jewish employees of that conglomerate are just as disturbed by this fact as you and I. Would it be fair and balanced for me to make excuses for this corporate lapse in judgement? How would Fox News handle a story where an international organization demonstrated an unwillingness to stand up for Israel's right to exist even on maps?

One of the world's largest publishers, HarperCollins (Zondervan is now one of its subsiduaries) has excluded the nation of Israel in atlases sold to schools in the Middle East. Some details are in, 'Israel missing from HarperCollins atlases sold to Middle East schools'.

One branch of HarperCollins, Collins Bartholomew, 'that specialises in maps, told the Tablet that it would have been "unacceptable" to include Israel in atlases intended for the Middle East. They had deleted Israel to satisfy "local preferences"'.

This sounds like political correctness in the extreme that a controversial, but significant, Middle Eastern nation is not even mentioned in this atlas.

You are attacking this instead of attempting to discuss the issue and that makes you unavailable for calm reasoning as long as you insist on using the "Progressive" liberal left wing agenda of stir first and the belittle. I' m praying you will come back to this with a more Christlike attitude and approach but right now you are not ready for reasoning.

news companies play both sides, they don't care its all about the $$$. there was a good reason the fcc for years didn't allow the mega corps to own tv news and ads for that. because of this.

and no , im not for net neutrality or the older version of that, just that when we had ads and this stuff media was way less biased.

we have a thread on this in end times.

Sorry! Perhaps one of the moderators can then delete my thread. However, I do think it is a topic that also belongs in 'Current Events' as it is a contemporary issue that is making the media in my country of Australia.

Why dont people just get over it. Isreal is a nation. Its there. If people want to be that way and not acknowledge something that is, they may as well do the same to near every country in the world as its all stolen land from nations rising against nations.
The fact that Israel has been singled out for hatred throughout the Muslim world, as well as a large segment of the Western world, should give thoughtful individuals food for thought. In the UN as well as the present administration of the USA, Israel is always singled out for blame while its enemies go scot free!

Why is it that Israel -- the only democracy in the Middle East and the only country that maintains a standard of living comparable to the West -- is so bitterly hated? Christians should see the hand of Satan and all his evil spirits behind this hatred. And the deeper reason for this hatred is that Messiah came out of Israel the first time and Messiah will return to re-establish Israel at His second coming. We won't even touch on the machinations of the Antichrist before the return of Christ, but he will be Israel's "false Messiah" for 3 1/2 years.

Yes, the Jews hated Christ at His first coming, and paid a terrible price for that hatred. But there will be national repentance and mourning at the sight of Christ at His second coming "with power and great glory". In the end "All Israel shall be saved" (Rom 11:26).

It is in this context that Israel was erased from the atlases going into the Middle East. All the Arab nations and Iran (which is not Arab but Persian) have vowed for decades to drive Israel into the sea, and wipe it off the face of the earth. They have been unable to succeed because God's hand has been over Israel (in spite of their unbelief and blindness).

But God has a plan to re-establish Israel from the Nile to the Euphrates. That is why Satan is preparing the world to go up against Israel, and that will indeed occur before the second coming of Christ (Rev 16:13-16). That is called the Battle of Armageddon.

I'm amazed that news crop owns Zondervan. My audio bible is from Zondervan.

That's because Zondervan is a profitable business and it will continue to retain its profitability if the new owners do not stray from publishing what Zondervan is famous for - publishing Christian material. I guess that's what encouraged Rupert Murdoch and News Corp to acquire Zondervan. Also, another leading Christian publisher, Bethany House Publishers, is owned by Zondervan/News Corp.

Well, Israel really did play an important part in the history of the Judeo-Christian faith.

It was mentioned in the link I provided at #43 that one of the divisions of HarperCollins:

Collins Bartholomew, 'that specialises in maps, told the Tablet that it would have been "unacceptable" to include Israel in atlases intended for the Middle East. They had deleted Israel to satisfy "local preferences".

So eliminating Israel from the atlas was following a deliberate strategy: 'to satisfy "local preferences"', and those preferences were not to affirm Israel as a nation.

This article from the Jerusalem Center for Religious Affairs, 'How Religious are Israeli Jews?' indicates that about 20% are considered secular Jews. The article has some interesting figures about the religious vs the secular Jews in Israel.

This article begins with this observation about the common mass media view :

For years, reporting from Israel and the comments of those Israelis whom the reporters cover or interview has suggested that Israeli Jews are divided into two groups: the overwhelmingly majority who are secular and a small minority who are religious. While figures, even percentages, were not always stated, it was generally assumed that 80 percent of Israelis fell into the secular camp and were being religiously coerced in one way or another by the religious 20 percent. Why do you think many Christians could be pro-Israel?

The issue raised in this thread points to censorship of the geography of a prominent nation in the Middle East.

Since I'm an Aussie, today I wrote to HarperCollins Australia (an email) about this censorship. I do hope that all of you will send a brief email to HarperCollins in your country to complain about what it has done with this exclusion of Israel from a Middle Eastern map.

As I indicated in #55, there was article from the Jerusalem Center for Religious Affairs, 'How Religious are Israeli Jews?' that indicates that about 20% of the people of Israel are considered secular Jews.

I'm more than aware of pre-trib, dispensational eschatology and Matt 24 and the dispensational view of the place of Israel in the dispensation.

Unfortunately Satan has done a really good job of deceiving everyone. After all he is the god of this world. The land over there in the mid east that we call Isreal is not really Isreal. It is occupied by the Jews, who are the some of the children of Isreal, but nationaly they have always been called Judea. The only time the Jews were called Israel was under King David. Otherwise Judah and Isreal were separate nations. At one point Judah and Isreal were at war against eachother. The name Isreal was handed to Joseph's two sons. Gen 49 The nation Isreal is somewhere other than in the mid east. The prophicies against Isreal is much bigger than we realize. Notice in Matt 24:16 When Christ is speaking about the end times he addresses the land Judea, because what we call Isreal, is actually Judea. Its a eye opening bible study.

Sevenfold, with all due respect, I'm sorry to say that you have provided readers with a lot of misinformation.
It is occupied by the Jews, who are the some of the children of Isreal, but nationaly they have always been called Judea.
Not Judea but "the kingdom of Judah" comprising the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. And not "always" but only since "Israel rebelled against the house of David" (2 Sam 12:19) and Rehoboam took ten tribes with him. After that there were two kingdoms -- the kingdom of Judah and the kingdom of Israel, until Assyria carried the kingdom of Israel captive, and the ten tribes "disappeared".
The only time the Jews were called Israel was under King David.
Once again you are mistaken. The Hebrews (not Jews) were called "the children of Israel" from the time that Jacob and the twelve tribes went to Joseph in Egypt at the time there was a famine in Canaan (Gen 46:8).
The name Israel (not Isreal) was handed to Joseph's two sons.
That name was not handed to Joseph's two sons.
Jacob (whose spiritual name was "Israel") blessed his son Joseph, and his grandsons Ephraim and Manasseh in Gen 48:1-22, but the name Israel stood for the twelve tribes of Israel (from Jacob's 12 sons). See Gen 49:1-33. God has always seen the nation of Israel as those descended from Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (Israel).
The nation Isreal is somewhere other than in the mid east.
That would be real news to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! Would you say Great Britain is "Israel" and "Israel" is "Egypt" or some other nation?
Notice in Matt 24:16 When Christ is speaking about the end times he addresses the land Judea, because what we call Isreal, is actually Judea. Its a eye opening bible study.
Christ mentions Judea because at the time that he was addressing the disciples, Judea was a Roman province, and Jerusalem is located in Judea. The prophecy speaks of the Abomination of Desolation which will be set up by the Antichrist in the temple at Jerusalem.

Israel as it sits today within a "sea" of Arabs will not remain as you see it on maps. The Lord Jesus Christ -- at His second coming -- will expand the borders of Israel so that they extend from the Nile in Egypt to the Euphrates in Iran (Gen 15:18). That is the land of Canaan plus a lot more territory.
