I actually have used a typewriter a few times before. My grandmother had one that she would let me use (back before she had a computer) whenever I came over to her house.

I have owned both manual and electric typewriters. I can't type like girls though, lol.

I'm discouraged with technology and am almost done with I think sometimes. TV got so bad with more commercials than program that Youtube was better. SO I quit watching tv all together. But now youtube breaks into the videos even more than before. I used to be able to put on a worship song and it would play through, and then have a commercial ad. But not now and then if you don't skip it, it goes into some infomercials about how some housewife keeps her tile clean or how a husband started building drones in his garage. And this stupid smart phone rings spam more than real calls. What sense is that? I leave it at home more and more...I have a land line! (it rings constantly with spam too)

1) As the baby boom retires, there will be a shortage of skilled workers for the factories. Machines replace the retiring workers so that America can still make enough stuff for the people. There are additional elders each year compared to how many youngsters there are.

2) When machines took over most farming, people still had jobs. Businesses just found other ways to employ people. One other way for them to get jobs is to do medical care for the elderly. Nursing, home health care aides, and such.

3) Other nations are building automated factories. If the US doesn't build them too, we won't be able to sell our products around the world. One example is the steel industry. China built a lot of automated modern steel mills, and US steel mills using manual labor couldn't compete with them. China now produces as much steel as the entire rest of the world put together. They have a 50% savings rate, which gives them lots of capital to build modern automated factories. The US has a zippo national savings rate, so doesn't have the capital to build as many modern factories.

I see what you're saying but still, I don't think anybody would want to lose their job though no matter what the case.

Of course not. Keeping jobs is the whole point. The only way for Americans to keep their manufacturing jobs is to install as many machines as other countries are. Then they will have jobs fixing the machines. If they don't install machines, the factory will close because American factories won't be able to compete with other countries.

Yes. I think part of the problem is that commercials are louder than the program. I don't know why advertisers think that playing loud music in the background while the commenter is telling about their product is helpful. Keep it all at one quiet volume. Have mercy on our nerves. If they would just quietly (and slowly) talk to us without the loud music, it would be interesting to learn what products are out there. Even some Christian programs play loud music in the background when talking. Very nerve rattling. Its hard to concentrate on what they are saying because the music is distracting. The music doesn't match their words like it does when they are singing.

But now youtube breaks into the videos even more than before.

I suspect that they are deliberately annoying people to force them to sign up for their commercial free paid product.

I use TracFone for my cell phone. Its not a smart phone, but I can talk to people on it. I only get maybe 6 to 8 ad calls per year on it. Maybe a different carrier would block some of the nonsensical calls better?

Those are hopeless. I turn off the ringer most of the time, and just let the answering machine answer it. The phone company is losing customers by making them so unhappy with their product.

Havint been forced to move into many mos by the potus and decisions of his policy makers .its not always bad. That's another thread. I didn't plan to read meters ,nor plan to stop,reading electric ones.

Change is coming no matter what . plan for it and its not always easy

Cars used to be easier to work on. I remember rebuilding my carburetor, changing my starter, replacing a wheel bearing, etc... CAFE has forced engineers to put a lot of extra hardware into an ever shrinking space. Its amazing some of the things that have to be moved just to do a simple procedure. Nowadays the average person might as well just take it to a mechanic.

Pollution control is good. People need clean air to breath. Removing lead from petrol was a particularly good thing to do. The air in cities is cleaner now. Smog is substantially tamed, except in places with inversion layers like Los Angeles.

CAFE was counter productive though. It made cars unsafe, and the ride bumpy (sprung to unsprung ratio). Cars are now so low to the ground that the elderly can barely get into them. Consumer Reports recommends that the elderly buy SUVs, because they are the only vehicles the elderly can get into and out of without crawling around on the ground. People switched to SUVs for safety, and SUVs use additional petrol compared to cars. They should have just mandated clean air, and forgot about CAFE. Then done DARPA style research on how to improve the technology. Once the technology was there, people would naturally adopt fuel efficient autos to save money.

When its not far to,say this,the car is built for the planet not the driver.

Safety ,safe mandates weren't around when Packard created the seatbelt or the air bag .tmps,is a joke .driver stupidity by failing to check tires.nevermind the other ones coming .I'm not against reasonable regs but you literally have cars that are bland and name one antique after the 70s you,would want to own?they are all bland and boring .

Besides most emission issues arent enforced once your car is sold and you don't love in one of those states.I have an emission issue in my,Toyota I'm,not fixing it. Its purge system has a leak.

That's not a battle of the sexes thing. It was a compliment to girls! All the girls I've seen who learned how to type, do it very well. My sister could type without looking at the keyboard. I sort of know the keyboard pretty good in my mind but my fingers couldn't catch on lol...

I think women in general can type better than men. Adam used to be able to type, but then Eve took that skill away from him I think!

Wide open spaces in rural areas don't have significant air pollution, so they don't need cars with emission controls to protect people. However, its not cost effective for automakers to make different cars for each city. The national standards are set as a compromise between crowded cities and rural areas. Thereafter, smoggy places keep pollution control devices in good repair on cars by making drivers pass tests at local facilities. Wide open spaces don't bother.

Of course, this creates conflict between crowded cities and wide open spaces. Citizens in wide open spaces object to spending money on pollution control that they don't need. Citizens of crowded cities want even cleaner cars because because their air is already too polluted. The fight goes back and forth. Maybe someday manufacturing of different cars for different areas will become practical, and both groups will be happy.

the problem is that most govt agencies in this accepts bribes, its been done by family because they cant afford several grand to replace a cat on a 20 year old car that is not worth that. I wouldn't fix it, I would park that car and go get another.

nevermind that electric is anything but green, cobalt mining is worse then coal mining and farworse on your lungs to extract it. talk about nimby.my state had state wide emissions after studies the state decided to stop it because they found exactly what I said, bribery and people loosing their cars because they couldn't fix the car.

so then you are suggesting a cat free , emission unregulated car for rural counties then what they move to large city they cant drive them? that would make cars more expensive as each maker would have taylor to that. now its only California standards and federal.

im for safety but its not just something that govt has shown its good at, as people will drive cars with bad brakes and also parts because they simply have no other choice. im not antiregulation but we are too trigger happy with these.

i do that stuff for my part time job to a degree as we inspect lights etc and other parts .

florida had them and I was thinking of that when I read a route two days ago as I passed the old base for the sign, it was a gas station from the 50s that had three bays and made into a garage only some time before I was able to remember much. in the early to late 80s, three days a week(irony) the most deadliest curve then and now would be back up with cars waiting to enter and leave this place. that's govt for ya.

If Los Angeles converts to electric cars, the city air will be much cleaner. Electricity can be generated in distant areas that don't have millions of people there to breathe the pollution.

See norway for that idea about how unready they are.c02 emission up .you can't build a bunch of larger demand users and not require a means of power outside of wind or solar .these can't handle it.

Plenty of cities in,valleys don't have inspectors ,see the state of Utah .emissions only but well I bet plenty of cats don't make that

I never said corps were the cause ,the facts are the big stores want inspections,its the bribing from the poor and cheap who are causing this.

I can't do most of my,work but yeah ,we already talking about that .I yanked a cat for 300 on my Tacoma,double that and labor would be close to a grand at a shop
