I went to the city centre today and met two new friends, Jay and Jay Sue.
Jay is 27, Sue is 40 and she is 2 months pregnant. They are a homeless couple and live in a small tent at night time. Sue was asleep and looking very pale.
I was talking to Jay. He told me he lost his job because of the lockdown. He is very worried a out Sue . All he wants is to get a job so they can live somewhere. He said he will do gardening or anything.
I eventually that God knew what was happening. That is when he told me they are both Christian's. We talked about the bible and he knew it so well.
They have a sleeping bag, a small tent and the bible. Jay said they pray and read the bible for e hours every night, by torch light.
I told him I would pray for them and ask you all to pray too.
I want to find a way to help them, and we are going to keep in contact.

What a beautiful testimony Tessa. I was homeless for awhile so now I pay special attention to the homeless. There is so much need for spiritual guidance to cope with what they are going through. I had out "God Loves You," cards and ask they their names when I am not driving. I can send you some if you want. I am happy you are going to stay in touch. This is such a fulfilling ministry. Truly, I see God in you.

Thank you Susannah . I told Jay to keep on praying and he said what he is going through has brought him closer to God. I have met some amazing homeless people.

I admire homeless people. It's too tough to sleep outside. Especially in winter.
Tessa I suggest you point them in the direction of some homeless charity. You can't possibly let them sleep in your house, can you? I just think it would be a security risk. I'm thinking of you in this.
Prayers.

In my opinion you cannot

In my opinion, you cannot generalize about these things. Sometimes it is safe and other times it is not. In the beginning of Alcoholics Anonymous. sober men and women often slept at the house of their sponsor but were asked to leave it they drank. The same with homeless people. If they go to church, have good manners, and have known you for awhile sometimes you can take a chance. This reminds me of Les Miserables. The hero was taken in by a priest. He stole his silver. When the police brought him back the priest said he had given to the silver to the man. To the man he whispered, "I have bought your soul back." He became a good man after that.

I don't think I would take in a single man, but I have taken in women. I do not leave them alone in the house. Of course, as always. I could be wrong. I just feel so strongly that God will protect me if I use my common sense and these people attend my church. I do agree that you should be a channel for other resources. As the proverb goes, "Don't give them fish, teach them how to fish." This is what I do in my new charity, "New Beginnings, Inc."

Unfortunately I haven't got room. My brother lives with me and my daughter stays sometimes. My brother would never agree to it, but I haven't ruled it out yet. All the shelters are full. I am hoping to try the churches but most of them are still closed.

When it comes to matters such as this it is tempting to lead with your heart. It is best to use your heart and your reasoning. If you pray for the answer God will give it to you. One answer will not cover all the scenarios you will face. You will get a different answer each time according to the situation at hand. However, as my AA sponsor used to say, "When in doubt, do the loving thing." God is our ultimate shelter and we must shelter others as God builds our mansions in heaven.

I've worked with homeless mentally ill people. My experience tells me you need to moderate your compassion with commonsense and pragmatism. Clear boundaries still need to be in place to protect you and essentially them as well.

You're welcome to your opinion. Tessa and I feel differently. We will have to agree to disagree. Not all homeless people are mentally ill. Things have changed. We've now got homeless people who just recently lost their jobs because of covid-19. So you might say there's a new class of homeless people. We want to be careful not to generalize or stereotype

Sorry but I think you are misreading and over reacting to my post. I have the best interests of all here.
Sorry Tessa. This is about you and your story. Not us.

They stayed in bed and breakfast last night. My life is looking after 3 people. They all have serious health problems and I don't think my daughter could cope if I brought them home. Everything is so complicated.
I am going to find out what help I can get for them.

That is so sad. In America most states have executive orders that prevent landlords from evicting tenants. It’s sad they lost their jobs and now have to live in a tent.
My wife and I would never evict a tenant due to loosing their job to Covid.
