Someone told me that Jesus was married to Mary M and I told them that was impossible because Jesus will be married to his church when he returns and showed them the scriptures...this is what they wrote back and I am not sure how to answer this. You guys always come through for me. How do I handle this?

"I would, however, like to point out to Eve that proving that the word 'wedding' exists in the Bible does nothing to prove your allegation that Jesus was married to the Church."

ok first of all we have to look at the The Bride of Christ.

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not."(Mt 25:1-12).

In the Scriptures Jesus put forth a parable about being His bride. This parable is found in the 25th chapter of the book of Mathew and is reffered to as the "parable of the virgins ".

"

The thing to note here is that they all had the lamp (the Word), but it is only those (the wise) who had the oil that were allowed into the marriage. What is the oil ? The Bible says,"
Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows."(He 1:9). This "oil of gladness" is what seperates the virgins in the above parable. It is only in the utter abandonment to the love of God that one truly becomes "the Bride of Christ". And this in turn brings on the "oil of gladness". The above parable shows that even though some people have the Bible and read it, that they are missing it's most important value by not having that intimate, personal and total relationship with the Lord.

In any honest marriage or union one party gives of themselves totally to the other in trust and faith and it is that bond that carries you through the hard times and the bumps in the road that come along in every relationship. It is the same thing in our relationship with Jesus. We have to give ourselves to Him utterly, in complete trust and faith, so that in times of turmoil we will have that bond of perfectness the Bible speaks of in Col 3:14 "
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.". And it is this bond of love that will carry us through the times to come.

This communion of heart with heart in the love of God is what gives us the oil of gladness above our fellows. Ever wonder what it is that is "different" when you look into the eyes of a child of God ? What you are seeing is that spirit of joy, that union with the Devine; it is Jesus ! Our husband for eternity. When you have finally joined your heart with the spirit of God, there is nothing else on this earth that will ever satisfy as deeply, or bring you to such depths of love, an almost over-whelming level of happiness. Jesus can and does do all this when we are truly married to Him.

Jesus is the lover of all lovers, who came in love and live in love and died for love that we all might all live in love forever. "
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. "(John 13:35). This is the true value of what the Bible teaches and what God expects of His children; to put Him first in their lives and to love Him first in their hearts and then to turn around and to love our neighbour as we love ourselves (in most cases this is a lot) The Bible says that on this hangs ALL the law and the prophets. (Mt 22:40) The whole thing ! Everything hangs on love ! And the most important thing is to be married to Jesus, to love Him and to bring Him much fruit (spiritual offspring).

"For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called." (Isa 54:5)

If Jesus was married to any woman the details would be in the Bible.

The whole notion of Jesus being married is contained in gnostic teachings.

It is one being embraced by promotors of the "DaVinci Code", Mormonism, Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh and Henry Lincoln's book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" deals with this theory.

When the bible talks about the wedding it is a spritual significance not a pysical one.

I dont believe that Jesus was married him self there is no record of a pysical wedding why would God have needs or a desire for a compainion.
