Judge or rebuke what’s the difference?

Just something I don’t fully understand.
In the bible it says to rebuke (proverbs 9v8, 2 timothy 4v2, Luke 17v3 and others…)
Yet it also says not to judge (mat 7v1, rom14v4, rom2v1 and others…)
What is the difference when do we rebuke or judge and when do we not rebuke or Judge? Also consider these verses….
1 timothy 5v1
prov 28v23
Also aren’t we meant to judge by the spirit to see if it is of Gods (couldnt find the referance)

Thanks yall

:Fade-color To judge would be to accuse someone without knowing
the whole truth. We are not to judge harshly. To judge another person
with out giving them the benefit of the doubt is different than catching
them in the very act of sin. many people judge without the information
they need to be certain that the person they judge is guilty, where as
when you rebuke, you are trying to correct the person who is doing
wrong, and try to get them to turn away from their wrong doing.
Rebuke a wise man and he will love you,but rebuke a fool and he will
hate you.

My understanding is that many of the Jews of the day were quick to judge others without consideration of their own spiritual condition. They were quick to see themselves as the righteous ones, the leaders of the blinds, ect., without considering that they themselves may have needed to rethink or reevaluate their own relationship with God. They did not really understand that Jesus was taking them to a higher level. This is what I believe Jesus meant by saying, "Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not and you shall not be condemned. " On the other hand, we have to make judgments every day as a believer but I believe that many are quick to make judgments without knowing all of the facts or without considering many factors involved. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we are to help one another grow in the body in a spirit of love. Sometimes this involves rebuke and correction, but sometimes like the religious Jews, we are quick to rebuke and condemn without self examination or without considering all factors. Before rebuking or chastising, I believe that we need to pray for wisdom and guidance and remember that all is to be done in a spirit of love, wanting what is best for the other person and the body. Just my understanding. Take care and God bless.

Then would rebuking be an action of love and judgment an action of hate? Are there any verses to back this up?

:Fade-color Forgiveness and compassion should always be
there, even in times where you must avoid another person for
your own personal safety,ect...
Pray for your enemies, and bless those that curse you.

We know that God forgives and saves all kinds of sinners.
Read 1 Cor.6:9-11
God forgives when we confess before him
1st John 1:9
Zechariah had a vision of the high priest in filthy clothes, which
were removed and replaced with pure white garments.
Zech 3:1-5
John 4:4-26
Matt 6:12 Forgive us our debts ,as we also have forgiven our
debtors.
Luke 7:47-50 "Therefore,I tell you,her many sins have been
forgiven--- for she loved much. But he who has forgiven little
loves little.

Zechariah 3v2 intersted me It says And the lord said unto satan, The Lord Rebuke thee, o satan

Why would God rebuke satan? Isnt rebuking an act of love to help a person when there doing wrong? Or is part of rebuking claiming power over satan?

:smt060 Has God not shown love to Satan?
Has God not been patience and shown mercy even to the wicked?
Many people and some lost angels are going to the lake of fire, but
did God want them to go there? No,he did not.
God is God,he is not man as we are. God can rebuke and he can judge.
His judgement is much more fair than ours,so is his love.
God loves even the ones he knows are going to go to the lake of fire.
He gives us the choice to make. He does not force himself on us.
God doesn't have to show Satan or any of the Angels or us that evil
destroys itself but he is. He doesn't have to,but he loves us.

judge and rebuke is the same thing.

however the Bible makes distinctions with Judgement.

The context of making a Judgement

That God told us to “hate the sin but not the sinner.â€Â

That all sins are “equal†in the eyes of God.

That Jesus instructs us to “pray†about everything and that God always hears our “prayers.â€Â

That the Beatitudes instruct us to “turn the other cheek†and to “do good to our enemies.â€Â

That we are assured of salvation by simply saying we “accept†Jesus Christ.

That “love†is more important than doctrine.

That Jesus’ life and death made void the “Law†of the Old Testament.

Authority In Christianity

We must have standards and authorities in all the affairs of life. If we do not, then we have much confusion. Every nation has a government which exercises authority over it. The headmaster and teachers exercise authority in the school. Parents exercise authority in the home.

In Christianity we see much division and confusion. Why? Because we fail to be guided by the true standard of authority! The result is hundreds of churches with many different teachings. Before this confusion can be cleared, we must all agree on an authority in Christianity. What will it be?

The Bible is the authority in Christianity because it is the inspired Word of God. The apostle Paul, in writing to Timothy, said:

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16,17). Peter said, "...holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:21). Peter is talking about the men who wrote the Bible. They were men who were told what to write. The Holy Spirit is the one who told them. If we listen to what the Bible says, we are listening to God. God is perfect. What He says is right. Man is not perfect. He makes mistakes. We must not listen to man because he is sometimes wrong. Since God cannot be wrong, we must listen to Him. Then we know we are right.

"...Your word is truth" (John 17:17). The Bible is the Word of God. The words of God are truth. Therefore, the Bible contains all truth.

MAN CANNOT DIRECT HIS OWN WAY

The Bible is the authority in Christianity because man cannot direct his own way. "O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps" (Jeremiah 10:23). Many people think that they can decide by themselves what is right in Christianity. When man tries to direct his own way, he finds much trouble. When he listens to God, he does much better. If man were able to direct his own way, God would not have given us the Bible. In order to find the way of life that is pleasing to God, we must let the Bible be our guide.

WE WILL BE JUDGED BY THE BIBLE

The Bible is the authority in Christianity because we will be judged by it at the second coming of Christ. "...it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27).

No one can escape death. The whole world agrees with that. Neither can a person escape the judgment. Since we cannot escape the judgment, we must prepare for it. But how can we prepare for it? By listening to Jesus. God gave Jesus authority to speak. It will be the words of Christ that will judge us. Listen to what Jesus has to say:

"He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges himâ€â€the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day" (John 12:48).

Every man will be judged by his own life. "...then He will reward each according to his works" (Matthew 16:27). "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad" (2 Corinthians 5:10).

look at the word judge for example

(Heb. shophet, pl. shophetim), properly a magistrate or ruler, rather than one who judges in the sense of trying a cause. This is the name given to those rulers who presided over the affairs of the Israelites during the interval between the death of Joshua and the accession of Saul (Judg. 2:18), a period of general anarchy and confusion. "The office of judges or regents was held during life, but it was not hereditary, neither could they appoint their successors. Their authority was limited by the law alone, and in doubtful cases they were directed to consult the divine King through the priest by Urim and Thummim (Num. 27:21). Their authority extended only over those tribes by whom they had been elected or acknowledged. There was no income attached to their office, and they bore no external marks of dignity. The only cases of direct divine appointment are those of Gideon and Samson, and the latter stood in the peculiar position of having been from before his birth ordained 'to begin to deliver Israel.' Deborah was called to deliver Israel, but was already a judge. Samuel was called by the Lord to be a prophet but not a judge, which ensued from the high gifts the people recognized as dwelling in him; and as to Eli, the office of judge seems to have devolved naturally or rather ex officio upon him." Of five of the judges, Tola (Judg. 10:1), Jair (3), Ibzan, Elon, and Abdon (12:8-15), we have no record at all beyond the bare fact that they were judges. Sacred history is not the history of individuals but of the kingdom of God in its onward progress.

In Ex. 2:14 Moses is so styled. This fact may indicate that while for revenue purposes the "taskmasters" were over the people, they were yet, just as at a later time when under the Romans, governed by their own rulers.

(Matt. 27:19), a portable tribunal (Gr. bema) which was placed according as the magistrate might direct, and from which judgment was pronounced. In this case it was placed on a tesselated pavement, probably in front of the procurator's residence. (See GABBATHA.)

(1.) The secret decisions of God's will (Ps. 110:5; 36:6). (2.) The revelations of his will (Ex. 21:1; Deut. 6:20; Ps. 119:7-175). (3.) The infliction of punishment on the wicked (Ex. 6:6; 12:12; Ezek. 25:11; Rev. 16:7), such as is mentioned in Gen. 7; 19:24,25; Judg. 1:6,7; Acts 5:1-10, etc.

the sentence that will be passed on our actions at the last day (Matt. 25; Rom. 14:10, 11; 2 Cor. 5:10; 2 Thess. 1:7-10).

The judge is Jesus Christ, as mediator. All judgment is committed to him (Acts 17:31; John 5:22, 27; Rev. 1:7). "It pertains to him as mediator to complete and publicly manifest the salvation of his people and the overthrow of his enemies, together with the glorious righteousness of his work in both respects."

The persons to be judged are, (1) the whole race of Adam without a single exception (Matt. 25:31-46; 1 Cor. 15:51, 52; Rev. 20:11-15); and (2) the fallen angels (2 Pet. 2:4; Jude 1:6).

The rule of judgment is the standard of God's law as revealed to men, the heathen by the law as written on their hearts (Luke 12:47,48; Rom. 2:12-16); the Jew who "sinned in the law shall be judged by the law" (Rom. 2:12); the Christian enjoying the light of revelation, by the will of God as made known to him (Matt. 11:20-24; John 3:19). Then the secrets of all hearts will be brought to light (1 Cor. 4:5; Luke 8:17; 12:2,3) to vindicate the justice of the sentence pronounced.

The time of the judgment will be after the resurrection (Heb. 9:27; Acts 17:31).

As the Scriptures represent the final judgment "as certain [Eccl. 11:9], universal [2 Cor. 5:10], righteous [Rom. 2:5], decisive [1 Cor. 15:52], and eternal as to its consequences [Heb. 6:2], let us be concerned for the welfare of our immortal interests, flee to the refuge set before us, improve our precious time, depend on the merits of the Redeemer, and adhere to the dictates of the divine word, that we may be found of him in peace."

Judged by one's own words!

"For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."
Matt 12: 37

The faith which you have, have as your own conviction before God.
Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves. Rom 14:22

I see judging and rebuking as two different, but similar ideas. Rebuking involves a judgment, but a judgment doesn't necessarily involve a rebuke.

In order to rebuke someone, a judgment must have been made that something wrong was done. A rebuke is then issued for the purposes of correction, that the wrong be made right.

There are times we need to judge, but it must not be done in a hypocritical, spiritually superior manner when it comes to judging people. One must always keep in mind that they aren't perfect either and in need of forgiveness. It is important to judge the act, not the person (in most cases anyway).

Ecc 3v17 were it says God shall judge the rightous and the wicked. This says how God judges all.

Prov 17v10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hudred stripes into a fool. Also in prov 9v8
does thsi mean rebuke is for us and not for sinners?

Also the day of judgement is woeful for sinners (mat10v15) Thats when God will judge. I think God is like a father he tells us when were wrong but when is it our place to rebuke?

His judgement is much more fair than ours,so is his love.
In thta case i would say there is no need for us to judge :-D
But If were meant to rebuke how can you rebuke without judging?

:smt007 God is the only righteous judge, but if we judge we
should not judge to harshly. Wise counsel is needed in especially
hard cases, and we also must realize that there are many wolves
disquised is sheeps clothes in the churches today whose sole purpose
is to seperate the church and devide and conquer it.
We must be very careful in these area's today where it's so hard to
tell whose sincere and who is not. We need those who are skilled in
these things to come forward and teach us how to handle these things.
We don't seem to have much of that today.

one of the questions we should ask is how do we test for spritual truths ?

Are sentual feelings or emotions a valid way ?

Can we trust our own heart for discernment ?

Or is it just our intellect enough?

We have been warned by Jesus that some will bring a false gospel and a different Jesus.

Let us first look at what the Bible says.

There are those who would bring another gospel. If they do let them be accursed. (Gal. 1:6-9)

Its funny how people controdict them selves when they to often missquote "Judge Ye Not least ye be judged" if that was the case for every situation and every teaching then we are selves are just as mutch as Judgemental hypocryites.

Do some not thing they are just as guilty when they can sentance some to the death penilty or to passon sentance when they do wrong.

from when some one commits Murder dosent the attitude of that he must be put to death part of a Judgement.

or are we gulible enougth to accept all and sundry when it comes to other inflences from out side the church creaping in.

buddah.jpg

There are those who would bring another spirit, gospel or another Jesus. (2 Cor. 11:4)

as we have read in the Bible "There are those who would bring another spirit, gospel or another Jesus." (2 Cor. 11:4)

If this was the case then doing as the bible said

"There are those who would bring another gospel. If they do let them be accursed." (Gal. 1:6-9)

This would be to far feched in resepct of having a to Judgemental attitude would be saying to God do not tell me to do this becouse I only love you I Just dont want to obey the word of God.

As we are told to do this let them be accursed. Than the bible is telling us to be unloving as some would have us to believe.

so then the next question is how far is to far ?

as we can read from the two verses we know that the Apostle Paul was deeply trubled and worried that some have tought a false gospel, and thy have a distorted spirit and as a false Jesus was presented that some would believe them becouse the enimy comes from with in the body of Christ. Paul warning`s was to us that not everyone can be trusted.

So then how can we say that we use our hearts and mind as the prime way to distinguish spiritual truths ?

This would be a Flase way of thinking that we are with in the truth of the scripture, primarily we have not only deceved our selved we have also deceved others.

No one can follow a truth Crist centred Gosple according to the Bible if we accept the compromisation of folley, according to the following biblical verses it states.

"He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered." (Prov. 28:26)

So their you go to trust in our own hearts that we think we walk wisely in the Lord courses a bigger problem, we seek after empty thing doctrines filled with hot air.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jer.17:9)

The Bible says the heart is a very deceitful abouve all things, God is testing our motives our own hearts and lifes to see if we be pure before him if we are being false with in teaching then we are deceved and we unknowingly deceve others.

As we get back to those two verses it is clear about the heart only, and/or feelings only, can lead a person into error.

We must use wisdom as we read so much of that in the Book of proverbs.

The Bible states that only a fool would trust only his heart.

What I am not implying is that the heart is always wrong, but it can be wrong.

This is why as the bible is the final authority we test all things by the word of God, its funny that if i was a JW or a mormon you would have a Judgemental attitude and ortamatically your respoce would be that i am from satans organisation`s.

We can also see that many who have left a false religion can testify to this.

I am one of them. From the following we learn that what might seem right is not necessarily so.

yes to the article I wrote

"There are those who would bring another spirit, gospel or another Jesus." (2 Cor. 11:4)

Its hard to decern demon spirits. But if we let God do it it is so easy. Some ppl are so sus in the church at times. from Sticking there tounges out (a sing of demon possession) To saying satan is god repetivly under there breath and waving the el diablo sign.

We fight not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities of the air

:smt035 I believe it! God helps us know the truth because you can
test the spirits, and every spirit that gets angry when you say The words,
"Jesus Christ is Lord" is of satan.
Thanks for bringing out this point.
Blessings in Jesus Christ,amen.

Thanks Another interesting verse is isiah 54v9 were God says he will not be wroth or rebuke. earlier we said rebuke was an act of love yet is this saying rebuke is invovled with wroth?

:)colros: We don't want to take the stories of the bible out of
context. The same word can have many meanings. We know this in
our every day conversations, but God's word is very good for study,so
carry on,carry on,amen.
Wisdom is only reserved for christians!
