I know that if I do it, I have to stay away from most all bread, except Weight Watchers, and flax.... almost all pastas, rice..... It's basically just eating lean meat, and unlimited greens..... I had lived on it for about 2 years. I do know how to get recipes. What are you comfortable with eating?? I'm picky with textures so am not fond of mushrooms, peppers, plus..... but that doesn't mean you won't like them.... :)

i eat this way already, no sugar, I keep carbs under 10 a day, and protein, enough to maintain muscle mass. When I eat this way I have normal blood pressure, normal sugar , my cholesterol becomes normal. Once I loose all the weight I get complacent and after a year or so I’m back to square one. Seeing this is a food section I thought cant text driving throw it out there if anyone was, or is thinking of doing a KETO diet.

I don't know about the Keto Diet.
I do know that when we remove foods from a diet, we tend to miss them and then go back to them eventually and all the fat comes back.

I've never dieted. I've gained some weight as the years go by.
It seems like every 10 years I have to eat less and work more.

I believe it's normal to gain some weight around the middle at middle age and over. I was able to keep it off till about 10 years ago.

So back to the Keto Diet. I just cut down on food and move around more. I find that this works best.

I like the all protein and greens diet the best...but I don't know how long I could keep it up.

Also, I've been hearing that sugar is worse than fat and if I had to pick, to pick the fat.

What do YOU think about that?

Yes sugar is deadly. In a Keto diet what you are doing is conditioning your body to use FAT for energy instead of carbs. So in the beginning the diet is hard to get used to, withdrawing for sugar and carbs is hard. I have done the diet a few times and i just started again. usually in 2 1/2 months I loose 30 pounds. My body uses my fat stores for energy. this is why you see people on those survival show loose a lot of weight. I try to keep my carbs less than 10g a day (50g is the most to stay in a ketonic state), no sugar, and fatty foods. Bacon is my favorite. you have to drink a lot of water, it flushes ketones out of your body, i don't have that problem. i drink a gallon a day, I love water, I put flavor in it.
I make keto friendly Fudge, last night I made "CRACK" slaw, cabbage and hamburger with spices and butter. there is a slew of great tasting ways to eat. it involves work though and is definitely not a lazy mans diet, but i will say it is less intensive than juicing!

My wife does the keto diet.

She has been taking thin sliced cheese and baking them into crackers.

She has lost almost 50 lbs on this diet.
Lowered her insulin 4 times and dropped one medication.

Kinda nuts what's happening. But good at the same time.

Yes it is foreign to us to eat that way and to become healthier than before. Yes I call them cheese chips they are great! Making oizza crust that is keto is my favorite. The best I’ve found is almond flour and mozzerella cheese it works so well and it’s easier than making cauliflower crust. Ill put the recipient up if you want

Yes please...I got a thing where I am making pizza.

the best recipes i found are in any of maria emmerich's books - or dr don colbert - or jimmy moore's keto clarity - or leanne vogel

if you want a specific keto recipe for a specific food let me know and will post it

my wife and i do catering and we specialize in keto cooking although simple rather than the almond flour recipes etc

we stick to foods that are keto without substitutes - but we have several keto cookbooks we studied when we first started specializing in keto

my wife is crazy about pasta so we do keto rice (cauliflower processed) and keto noodles (veggies julienned) and spaghetti squash to satisfy her emotional need for something that looks and tastes like pasta

Yes we do the squash, I’m going to grow it this year if I get my garden growing. Keto pancakes are great egg and cream cheese , Walden farms makes a lot of products that have nothing in them but taste good their maple syrup on keto pancakes with a dash of real butter, oh my I could eat a million of them but I stick to a few. The pizza crust I make with almond flour holds up very well. It is almond flour, cream cheese, mozzerella cheese. I will get the exact recipe in a bit and post it

Hey I can’t upload pics to the forum I don’t know why but I’m going to post the pizza crust recipe now
Keto Pizza Crust
Ingredients
3 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 3/4 cups almond flour
5 Tbs cream cheese
2 1/2 Tsp white wine vinegar
2 1/2 eggs large
1 1/4 Tsp Salt
Olive oil ( to grease your hands)
Here’s how I make it.
Preheat the oven to 400 deg.
Heat the mozzarella and cream cheese in a nonstick pan ( or microwave)
Use other ingredients in a separate bowl and mix together. I use a kitchen aid with a paddle and when I add the cheese I use a dough hook)
Once ingredients are mixed add the warmed cheese mix, knead until it is dough like.
I spray parchment paper with non stick spray, put a dough ball on one, and put another piece on top and roll it out to pizza shape.

Bake in oven on a pizza dish, until the dough is golden. Remove and let cool. Use your sauce, and add ingredients (toppings) and more shredded cheese.
Bake until cheese is melted and cut and serve.

I have a pic but I can’t post it because it says my p

We tried this the other day and it was great.
Where the crust isn't completely like a yeast raised bread it is like a cheap frozen pizza crust...but with the real toppings it tasted pretty good. And since it satisfies my wife's craving for pizza all the better.

so...just a little side convo, here...

for whatever reason, my news feed told me today that Jillian Michaels, the big name diet and fitness lady, is anti-keto. are there valid criticisms of the keto diet (I"m guessing because some people might have pushed it, or gone on it when they needed medical supervision for pre-existing stuff), or is she just concerned about losing her market share?

thanks. :)

Unless we exercise our willpower as much as we can. Also, science says that our taste buds adapt and develop new preferences in time:

This is true.
I cut out sugar some years ago because I think we all feat too much sugar and the body can't handle it.

After about a month, I could hardly eat sweets anymore.
But, alas, I did go back to them !
Will power is everything, just like you said.

Actually,
Different people do better on different diets.
Some people do great on a ketogenic diet... others don't.
Some people do better on heavy carbs and light fat and light protein diets. (I'm one of those)
It all depends upon what your DNA makeup is going to be.
