The answer and solution for the 9 dead, 27 injured in the mass shooting in Dayton, Ohio; and the El Paso, Texas, where 20 people were killed and more than two dozen injured, is Christ and Him Crucified! All sin was dealt with at the Cross of Calvary where the victory was won.

i think gun control is also a really, really, -really- good idea. just sayin'.

Well in reality, the technology genie can't go back into the bottle. Where I agree that guns shouldn't be made so inexpensive and prolific we can't unlearn how to do so.

And Britain's gun restrictions haven't done anything to stem the violence...they have even gone so far as to restrict knives. (Straight Razors have taken a huge hit from this) And yet the crime and violence hasn't stopped or slowed down any.

I can easily make what was once known as a zip gun. (Homemade gun). It doesn't take much to do so.
Pipe bombs also aren't difficult to make.

Molotov Cocktails also are horrible devices of destruction and violence. But we can't outlaw gasoline.

My faith is in God...not weapons or laws.

Christ is the answer for any specific individual. If a heart is genuinely changed by Christ that person will not commit mass murder.
Realistically we are not going to see the entire population reconciled to God through the person, work, and blood of Christ.
God ordained government to provide security among other things.
Security because we are a fallen race and fallen unrepentant people are a danger, a threat, to others.
I would be fine with extreme restrictions on weapons designed for mass murder.
I am sure someone might have another viewpoint in that.
Many Christians I know wail at the very idea of not being legally able to arm themselves to the teeth or virtually any restrictions on the availability of semi-automatic weapons to anyone who doesn't already have a serious record.

A lot of cases in Britain of an individual killing 20 and wounding 26 with a knife?
Anyone in Britain set up in a high rise and pick off dozens fatally and wounding scores more throwing knives down into a crowd a la the Las Vegas massacre?

It's about the difference in press coverage.

That many people every day in London are victims of knife violence. (Because there are no guns)
Then there are the trained dogs. Then the clubs. All used to commit violence.

What I'm saying is that the guns aren't responsible for the violence. (Even though I don't like how inexpensive and prolific they are)
People are responsible for the violence. Where it isn't just one person in Great Britain doing all of it it's many. Easier to stop one person than a slew of crazies.

Look at Hong Kong today. They have literally tens of thousands rioting in the streets. So many people that there's no way to incarcerate them all. And the government can't shoot them all either. (The whole world would be in an uproar over that) So basically the Government is powerless in stopping that many people. Where it's an extreme example for the dichotomy it's not outside of the reality Britain faces. They have literally thousands of people weekly preying upon others by violence.

Texas is one of those states where many people are armed with "personal protection firearms". Also a concealed carry permit state. (Which is why the story is being blown up)

And for the most part Texas is a fairly peaceful and happy place to live or vacation. Moreso than places like Maryland or Rhode Island or New York City where "guns don't exist" legally.

I've been to both...and even today I'd rather go visit Texas for vacation than New York City simply because of less violence. Although your chances of getting shot in New York are much higher than in Texas your chances of dying in a vehicle accident are multiple times higher. (Higher rate of speed on interstate)

And about Ohio....
The place has been an armpit since the '60's...it hasn't seemed to change in 60 years. And I even like some of the people there. (April and Edward coming to mind)

But it's seemed to be just a big dirty city/state for decades without much for redemption.

Wow, for once somebody posted a bit of news that wasn't from me. I just heard about this and praying for the people affected by it including the victims and their families and friends. :pray

@1LOVE Sin was not dealt with at the cross as sin will always run rampant and wax worse as we see even today. Only the sting of death being sin has been swallowed up in victory through the finished works of Christ on the cross given to all who will believe by faith in Christ. Matthew 24:12; 2 Timothy 3:13; 1 Corinthians 15:56, 57.

Gun control is not going to stop anyone as anyone can obtain a gun no matter who they are. Sin will never diminish until Christ returns as it's only going to get worse. As a child of God all we can do is take the Gospel message out into the world and pray it will be received.

2 Chronicles 7:14 King James Version (KJV)

14 If my people, which are called by My Name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

The Apostle Paul said in Romans 11:22, "Notice how God is both kind and severe..." He will cut you off!

America and the world must understand when you turn your back on Our Lord Jesus Christ, spiritually speaking, He will vex you with all adversity.

2 Chronicles 15 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

Asa’s Changes

15 The Spirit of God came on Azariah, who was Obed’s son. 2 Azariah went to meet Asa and said, “Listen to me, Asa and all you people of Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with Him. If you look for Him, you will find Him. But if you leave Him, He will leave you. 3 For a long time Israel was without the true God. And they were without a teaching priest, and without the law. 4 But when the Israelites had trouble, they turned again to the Lord, the God of Israel. They looked for Him and found Him. 5 In those times of trouble, no one could travel safely. There was great trouble in all the nations. 6 One nation would destroy another nation and one city would destroy another city. This was happening because God gave them all kinds of trouble. 7 But Asa, you and the people of Judah and Benjamin, be strong. Don’t be weak and don’t give up, because you will get a reward for your good work!” 2 Chronicles 15:1-7

Travel = Plane, train, vehicle, or walking.

Don’t be weak and don’t give up = Fight the good fight of faith...1 Timothy 6:12

I think, as a Christian, I first feel for the victims of this kind of violence.
If I err, I would rather have it be because I feel compassion for my fellow human beings than because I feel protective of a right that I am not really sure I have.
Some of our favorite rights have limits.
I can't say just anything I choose. I don't think I can threaten a person with physical harm. Shout "fire" in a theatre.

My choice of means of worship can't include slaughtering dogs or going nude in public. I can't marry multiple wives legally saying it's part of my religion.

I think we accept I shouldn't be able to have my own grenade launcher and grenades or a bazooka. Nor a flamethrower. So some weapons are illegal.

I think something needs to be done about weapons designed to kill a lot of people. We can defend a home with a pistol, shot gun or conventional rifle.

Fight the good fight of faith...1 Timothy 6:12

I was considering using 2 Chronicles 7:14, but we know not everyone will turn back to God, but would be wonderful if they did. God is also long suffering and patient, but even that will come to an end as He knows who are and who will be His own as well as all those who will reject Him, 2 Peter 3:9, 10.

I don't know why I, as a Christian, should be wildly eager for a bunch of unbelievers along with believers, to have easy access to weapons that can kill a bunch of people in seconds.
It's like the lambs demanding that lions get fitted out with heavy weaponry.

i think gun control is also a really, really, -really- good idea. just sayin'.
More gun control laws would be about as effective as alcohol prohibition was in the 1920's. Prohibition was enacted from 1919-1933 to reduce crime and corruption, solve social problems, reduce the tax burden created by prisons and poorhouses, and improve health and hygiene in America. It failed miserably and resulted in some of the worst gang violence in our history.

The problem is, it is trying to solve the problem by treating the symptoms rather than treating the cause.

Probably harder to make a homemade semi-automatic rifle than hooch in a bathtub.

So as a Christian should I fear extreme restrictions on the purchase of semi-automatic rifles? Because I don't.

And I think an emphasis in our schools, homes and other places on the foundational principle that all men are created equal. That was just a limited idea when written in the Declaration of Independence. It has been our history since to fight over the expansion of that truth to apply in practice more and more since. It only takes hold in people's hearts sometimes very reluctantly.
Frankly I think some heart change in that principle is needed at the highest office in the land.

Maybe we should just ban cars,.. far too many accidents happen because of them. (For those of you who don't already speak sarcasm, that was it right there.)

Oh yeah, and one more quick thing. Not only does it specifically state the right to bear arms in our Constitution, but if we didn't have the right to defend ourselves anymore, then I'm afraid that more tragedies like this would happen.

Here's an interesting twist. I'm thinking about the latest incident at a Walmart in Texas. Before I point it out, I will say that I am not an advocate for more gun laws or restrictions of any kind whatsoever. In fact, I believe that many of the gun laws we have now violate the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution because they do infringe on our right to keep and bear arms.

But what I found interesting about this whole incident is that we proponents of gun rights often use the argument that carrying self-defense arms is one way to counter such events. But now consider this. This incident happened in Texas. Texas residents are the third highest state per capita for carry permit holders and as such why was there nobody able to respond to the shooter in defense? I hate to admit it but this really seems to fly in the face of our pro-gun argument that armed citizens would affect the result by reducing the damage.

Reduce doesn't mean the same thing as eliminate altogether though.
