Genesis 49:8 Judah; thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee.

Genesis 49:9 Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?
Genesis 49:10 the scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

For those who do not know what a whelp is it’s a baby mammal or the offspring of its lineage. A lion was always considered the king of the jungle as a majestic loyal leader of the herd and very protective of its offspring. Judah was that strong and loyal lineage of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob whom found favor in his own father as a mighty leader of his people when most of his brothers were found not so faithful to their father, but unto their own greed or weakness.

It had to be through Gods favor of a faithful lineage that his only begotten son Christ Jesus could be conceived and born of a faithful virgin to be that Lion of Judah. One filled with all the power and all the authority and perfection that is Gods majesty come to life to grow in Spiritual knowledge from adolescence to the maturity of adulthood. To be a light to all nations calling them back to the reconciliation of Gods grace through the living word of repentance and forgiveness of sins. One to show us signs and wonders of Gods word that brings eternal life to all who will drink from the water that makes one thirst no more.

Jesus is that majestic Lion of Judah whom with boldness stands before the advisory safeguarding those who are called by God and have heeded to his calling with the weapons of warfare that are not carnal , but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds, casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ and having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled, 2 Corinthians 10:4-6.

The cross is just one example of humility where Jesus humbled himself through all the persecutions he faced even unto death that he presented himself no greater than those he died for. God said there is no greater love than a man lay his life down for another. This is what Jesus did was lay his life down so we could have life eternal with him. Followers of Christ should also have this meekness that we would be willing to do such a thing as this if it would bring a lost one to Christ.

Christ Jesus is the anointed one who was confirmed in the OT, claimed by the Apostles as all powerful, all knowing, ever present and eternal. His mission was to do Gods will, which was to save sinners as we have all sinned, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to destroy the works of Satan, to fulfill the OT, to give life, abolish ceremonialism and to complete revelation.

There were many great names in the Bible that describes Jesus, but to me I think the Lion of Judah was that of the greatest of all the names as only Christ as being the very Spirit of God made flesh to walk among us, who has suffered great pain and indignation, but yet stood strong in the face of his accusers as a lion defending it’s herd from the predators, not only suffered and died, but was risen again to be seen of others as one who was worthy of a lineage that had it’s strongholds in the faith of God and guidance through His Spirit. You alone Christ are that Lion of Judah, our bright and morning star. Glory and honor be to your name.

Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:3 for ye are dead and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Colossians 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

Serve the Lord rejoicing in hope, patience in tribulation, continuing instant in prayer, Romans 12:12

My favorite is Genesis 49:10
Flavious Josephus records the time when Rome took away the right to execute away from the Jewish leadership. The Jews considered this a Messianic passage and ran around for three weeks in sackcloth and ashes because they said that Rome had made God wrong.
It never occurred to them that Jesus was the Christ/Messiah.

Genesis 49:10 the word scepter stands out to me as being God's sovereignty that will never leave Judah as we can surely see who Shiloh is in being Christ Jesus who will return to gather all the saints to Him.

It does...
The Leadership mantle is symbolized by the staff. The Jews considered this the right to self rule. Until the Roman Empire removed that right...

I have read an article some time ago, that the sceptre was used for the kings and queens of England. Might be in Scotland now.

“10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah (the “Sceptre” is defined as “a staff of office and authority,” which pertains to Christ), nor a Lawgiver from between His Feet (refers to the fact that Judah was meant to be a guardian of the Law, which they were; the Temple was in Jerusalem, which was a part of the Tribe of Judah, and which had to do with the Law), until Shiloh come (when Jesus came, typified by the name “Shiloh,” Who, in fact, was, and is, the True Lawgiver, He fulfilled the Law in totality by His Life and His Death, thereby satisfying all of its just demands); and unto Him shall the gathering of the people be (the only way to God the Father is through Christ the Son; the only way to Christ the Son is through the Cross; the only way to the Cross is through an abnegation of self [Lk. 9:23-24]).”

Very well thought out, thank you.

I have read an article some time ago, that the sceptre was used for the kings and queens of England. Might be in Scotland now.

They were called the Royal Scepter as they represented the power and authority of the King and Queen.
