“Lip Service Is NOT Enough”

1 John 3:18 NLT
Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other, let us show the truth by our actions.

We are so good at trying to persuade people with words, aren’t we? Depending on the situation, we will use words in so many clever ways to convince people so that we can get what we want. We easily and often use words to persuade others to do something for us or give something to us.

So many people use words in sly ways to get something from others. People in different job positions can use words in order to trick people into buying something. The last thing I want when I go somewhere to look for something to buy is to have a sales person pressure me with words to buy something. Words can be so strong and persuasive.

As Christians, we use words to try to show people that we love God. It is great that we use words to express to others our love for God, but words simply are not enough. Words are good up to a point, but then our actions must speak louder.

In all my years of secular work world and vocational paid ministry, I have seen such a great need to show non believers the very love of God through actions. We not only need to share God’s truth through words, but through our actions of love for others.

Friends, we absolutely cannot just say that we love others. We must prove that love by the way we act toward them and how we treat them. Our actions will always speak so much louder than the words we use.

Lip service is simply not enough in today’s world. People want to see so-called Christians living out the faith they proclaim. The world needs to see genuine love through our actions to back the words we share. God proved His love by sending Jesus Christ to die for us. His actions spoke louder than words. Our actions also need to speak louder than words.

We can never expect the world to believe what we say if we are not going to back those words up with genuine love. Make sure your lip service is followed by love in action. God depends on us to not only share words of love, but to put feet on those words so they become actions of love.

When it comes to our words versus actions, actions will always speak louder.

Amen. Well said! :goodpost

Matthew 7:
15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

You make a good point. I have thought about this and have been trying to...walk the walk instead of just talk the talk.

Now I am not sure, (I need to do the word study), but I think that, in the places in scripture that it says, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved...what "believe" really means is...actions, walking the walk, implementing it into our daily life. Jot just, "I believe" and that's it...doers of the word and not just hearers of it.

Yes, it is a free gift. We do not have to do anything to receive this gift from God. But! Did we actually receive it into our heart soul and mind...and thereby we would naturally act on it in faith, or did we say the sinners prayer and not receive it, so returned like a dog to his vomit?

Peter had to get out of the boat.

If we don't get out of the boat we might be sailing to a different lake!!!

If people do not come out from the things of this world then they will remain worldly and have no fellowship with God or His Son Christ Jesus. Their destiny through God's judgement will be the lake of fire as their names are not found in the Lamb's Book of Life.

I think it is a lack of spiritual discipline that many have. People repent and confess and become saved and then don't implement discipline into their daily loife. They desire the things of God but have no (or not enough) discipline. I would have to include myself here because they way I understand it is, if we really comprehended the extent and amount of goodness and rewards open and available to us as believers that no one could stop us from having plenty of discipline.

We have to ask ourselves, how much time do we give to the Lord each day, week? In prayer, reading His Word, fasting, stepping out in faith? Too many distractions are in the world.

Committing ourselves to...something, anything for the Lord each day. Perhaps reading and meditating on one chapter a day in His Word is a good place to start. Making sure that we never miss a day of praying to the Lord is another. When we do this, the Lord responds and we grow spiritually and our faith will be increased. Scripture says when we draw closer to the Lord, then He draws closer to us...So when we do not, then He is left standing there alone wondering why we turned away so He waits on us instead of drawing closer.

Make sense?

I totally agree, but what I was talking about is those who only give lip service to the Lord, but yet void of Him in their lives. Playing the part, but not being a part.

Well, yeah. But isn't that essentially a lack of discipline?

The Lord plants a seed of life into us when we are born again. We are to cultivate that and grow. It is like the seeds which fell upon stone ground. They sprouted quickly but soon withered because they had no root.

Yes, I agree the Lord plants a seed of Life into us, but only if we are truly Spiritually born again. Those who only give lip service to the Lord are not truly sincere in committing themselves to the Lord as they have not the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, but are like the Pharisees being hypocrites.

Matthew 23:27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. 28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
