If a person can give up salvation at any point then has he got saved in the first place?

One person was arguing with me about this but is this logic possible?

receiving the end of your faith--the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:9

Once you believe the Gospel message, then you have started your walk of faith for Salvation.

You now have the right to become a son of God.

12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: John 1:12

You now have the right to earnestly contend for the faith.

If you have faith in God for salvation, then you are hoping for the reality of salvation.

The scripture teaches us that we must maintain this hope until the end.

...if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. Colossians 1:23

God loves you and will not allow anyone or anything to snatch you out of His hand.

Nothing can separate you from the Love of God in Christ Jesus.

However you can choose to turn away from Him and follow "other gods" if you choose.

Your job is to stay rooted and grounded in Him, and sow to the spirit, that is to say, invest into yourself the things that make for godliness and righteousness and love.

If you do these things you will never be ashamed before Him at His Coming.

"When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Philippians 2:12-16 also seems to fit into this question.
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
14 Do all things without complaining and disputing,
15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,
16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.

In the parable of the unmerciful servant who had his forgiveness rescinded because he did not reciprocate that forgiveness to a fellow servant, did the King really forgive him to begin with, or not? What does the text say?

Hard to derive a strong doctrinal stance from a parable, I think. It does seem clear that if one does not forgive others, they will not be forgiven.

Eph 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, 14who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.

1 John 5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

John 6:40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day."

John 1:12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God

Rom 5:1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ

Rom 8:15-16 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.

Gal 4:4-5 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

John 5:24 "Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

Eph 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. 4For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love 5he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.

Luke 18:9-12 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

Luke 15:7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

2 Cor 1:21-22 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.

Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

1 Peter 1:5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

Rom 8:23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

1 Cor 6:9-11 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men 10nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Eph 2:4-9 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. 6And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the (gift) of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.

1 Cor 1:21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.

James 1:6-8 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. 8Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

2 Tim 2:11-13 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; 12if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; 13if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

1 Cor 12:13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body--whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free--and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Rev 21:1-3 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”a for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

Heb 10:10-12 And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.

Heb 10:22-23 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

John 10:27-29 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. 28I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all ; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand.

Psalm 56:8 You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?

Luke 10:19-20 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

What is the source of our being "born from above" or "born anew." The Greek doesn't translate to "born again," that's a common misconception.

Blessings Doulos.
Jesus himself says that we must be born again to enter into the kingom of God.
How do we become born again?
It is by (His) Grace and (through) our faith alone in which we are saved.

John 3:3-5 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” 4“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” 5Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.

Think of it this way, if a person can get a divorce at any time is he married now? The answer is yes.

I agree, that stated outright to the disciples.

14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
15 "But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. (Mat 6:14-15 NKJ)

Hi Butch5

How does that equate to someone losing their salvation?

Did Jesus not say to His disciples that whoever’s sins they forgive will be forgiven in Heaven, and whoever’s sin they do not forgive will not be forgiven in Heaven?

Would that mean they could lose their salvation?

Is un-forgiveness a sin?

Is a divorced person unmarried (separated as one flesh) in God’s eyes?

God gave adultery as a legitimate grounds for divorce so I would have to say in that case the answer is yes. We have God as an example, He divorced Israel.

8 "Then I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also. (Jer 3:8 NKJ)

2 Timothy 4:10 King James Version (KJV)
10 For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.

Acts 8:18-23 ing James Version (KJV)
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

John 15:2 King James Version (KJV)
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

Revelation 3:15-16 King James Version (KJV)
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

2 Timothy 2:17-18 King James Version (KJV)
17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

1 Timothy 5:11-15 King James Version (KJV)
11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;
12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.

1 Timothy 6:8-10King James Version (KJV)
8 And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9 But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

How about the above scriptures then?

If a person can give up salvation at any point then has he got saved in the first place?

One person was arguing with me about this but is this logic possible?
It is impossible for a person to loose their salvation. Once you have trusted how that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the third day, you are justified unto eternal life, being imputed with the righteousness of God, forgiven of all sin(past, present, and future), Sin will not be imputed to you, reconciled to God, having peace with God, Sanctified by the holy Spirit by being baptized into the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, and are sealed unto the day of redemption by the Spirit of promise.

Yes, 'once you have trusted'. But if you stop trusting in the blood of Christ for the forgiveness of sin you forfeit the justification that forgiveness secures. No forgiveness, no justification. No justification, no salvation.

(sarcastic)Well apparently the blood of Christ covers all sin except the sin of unbelief. Sin is just to powerful. Guess the grace of God doesn't abound after all. Poor people who got deceived and fell into unbelief has no hope....I mean yea, Christ died for our sins and all, but in reality salvation is all on us(/sarcastic)

Like I said, It is impossible to loose your salvation once you have been justified unto eternal life. God has made it where he himself cannot unjustify once justified without going against his very nature. But, though saved, you can have lose of reward.
