In the Bible, it mentions that the duty of the wife is to have children. Does that make it a sin then to not have children? I plan to have surgery done prior to marriage to prevent myself from ever becoming pregnant. Would that be a sin? There are many reasons why I do not want children, the main ones being my mental health. I fear greatly that, in my current mental state, I would be unable to cope with the stress of pregnancy. I also fear that I would pass "bad genes" on to the child. I have a host of mental disorders, including Bipolar and ADD. My family has a history of disorders like this, and I feel it would be cruel to risk having a child with these disorders. I don't want anyone to have to go through what I have, and wht I am, forced to go through.

No it is not an absolute requirement for a wife to mother children. That is a duty of choice. There is no scripture that mandates/requires a couple to have children.

My only question to u is, where is ur faith in God to do that which no one else can do. But if u do not want nor desire children, then for the childrens sake I would tell u to never have children.

I'm afraid I do not understand your question..

Well in Genesis it does say multiply and being fruitful. Also at the same time you don't know for sure if the child will pick your genes having similiar problems as you. For all you know the child can come out as a healthy baby. But in sense, its like telling God I know better than you God, my decisions are wiser than yours, after all this unborn baby won't have to experience sin, but on the other hand this child could be one God is going to save. Its always better to obey God's word than thinking in your mind that God will somehow accommodate with your gut feelings/emotions.

No you don't. YOu are free to make your own choices. If you have the HOly Spirit then you are spiritually being fruitful and multiplying.
