Now I am sure some of you super-sanctified saints are going to judge me for this, but that's ok, I believe in transparency. So I am going to tell you a story about a recent material blessing:

So here's the story. On Monday (3/8) I took my car to the body shop to get repaired. My insurance company gave me an Enterprise Rental Car. I selected to get the collision waiver from Enterprise (the one that states that no matter how bad you mess up the rental car, they won't hold you responsible and will pay for the damages themselves). Well, that cost about $23 a day which I really didn't have since I would have the car for 3 days ($69). So the next day, on my way to work, I figured ok, I'm only going to have the car one more day. Surely I can drive it and not get into an accident or anything. So I called Enterprise and asked them to take the collision waiver off. So, I got to work and as I was turning into my parking space, I hit the car next to me. Well, I panicked big time and called Enterprise and asked them to add the collision waiver back on and they said they would. Then I reported it to my insurance company. Well, at this point I'm not thinking in terms of right or wrong, I'm just scared. As soon as I came to my senses, it started eating at me. I lied and fixing that rental car was my responsibility. But my flesh was fighting me hard saying, I'm already broke, I can't afford my insurance now, this is going to make it go up even more, etc. So it continued to eat away at my conscience for several more days. Here I am daily trying to seek God's face and I'm in the middle of a lie! So finally I prayed to God and asked him to give me the strength to do the right thing. Then I sowed a faith seed into one of my favorite ministries believing that God would give me that strength. No, you cannot buy things from God, but he does honor anything you sow into His kingdom, be it time, talent, or treasure. As soon as I clicked "Donate" I felt the power come on me. I knew I had the victory and was going to tell the truth. So the next day, I called Enterprise. I told them the whole story. They said, don't worry about it, we are going to cover it. I said, do you understand that I called to add the collision waiver back on AFTER the accident? He said, yes, don't worry about it, we are going to cover it. Now there was a fair amount of damage to that car. What would make a company like Enterprise pay to fix a car they know darn good and well is my responsibility and that my insurance would pay for it? It can only be the favor of God!!! That is UNHEARD OF to me! Why would they pay for something they don't have to pay for? It's insane, totally insane! I mean who does that?! And then to top it all off, it turns out you cannot put the collision waiver back on after taking it off, they just said they would put it back on for me for some unknown reason (can you say "God", LOL!). But techhnically they can't put the waiver back on, it is against policy and the computer won't allow it. So since the coverage wasn't technically on there except for the first day, they only charged me for one day of the collision waiver coverage!!! There's God saving me $46 bucks! Enterprise is also paying for the damage to the other person's vehicle. So I have come out totally unscathed!!! There will be no effect on my insurance premium at all. This could be nothing but God's favor!!! I repented, told the truth, and God did "exceedingly abundantly above anything I could ask or think!"

Psalms 5:12 "For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield."

Now this story is an example of a material blessing. It is an example of the "prosperity gospel" in action. And I say, what's wrong with it?

I do think God takes care of us and provides. While I don't subscribe or follow into the prosperity gospel at all I can see that being the Prosperity Gospel in action just as you described it.

How would you have thought of this if they just came back and asked fro your insurance information to repair the damage? Same?

I still feel wonderful because I obeyed God and told the truth, but I would not at that point call it a manifestation of the "prosperity gospel."

I can dig that. :thumb

I used to have this thing when I was younger in Christ where I would make "Deals" with God. "God if you'll this, then I'll that". Then I started having to pay up! :lol

I have had many material blessings from God, especially provision for paying for college which seems to constantly come out of unexpected places and can only be due to God's favor and direction in my life. Even the laptop I'm typing on right now was a blessing story in itself in that I was looking for a bargain laptop because my old one got really beat up and I wanted something functional but nice, and saw a Gateway laptop (retail $650-$700) on sale at Best Buy for $600, so went to Best Buy, looked everywhere for it (it wasn't on display), and by chance I saw a Gateway box (the last one) on the bottom shelf below the netbooks (in other words: a really good hiding place), discovered it to be exactly what I was looking for, and I took it to the counter only to be met with a puzzled "hmmm... let me scan this again" from the clerk once I gave it to him. He then said, to my great delight, "I guess you're in luck, this laptop is only $450 because its being discontinued from our store." Wow! Praise God, and I didn't even ask for it.

I also have had some material "wake up calls" with a wreck I had last year that was my fault for pulling across someone in a turn into their lane. I had to shell out most of my money from a backup bank account I had to repair my car (although even that had mercy in it in that the repair shop saved me $800). It's possible I read too much into it, but in some way I felt that the wreck was a (loving) judgment/wake up call from God to get some things in my life straight - and I think was ultimately oriented toward humbling me. The greatest miracle and mercy in it all is that my insurance didn't go up a dime. I am on the good student discount and had a clean driving history up until then. Even then I found myself wholly dependent on God for provision. Sometimes we get wake up calls, but God is always looking out for us if only we will seek Him first above all things.

God Bless,

~Josh

.

Wow ! I rejoice with all of you .... :clap :clap :clap ....... Praise the Lord !

I also had instances of cash mysteriously showing up in my wallet and bank account, and the money that appeared out of nowhere was MORE THAN ENOUGH to meet my needs !!

Hi

I do not see the connection between sowing money and the circumstance you were involved with here ?

faithtransforms,

so you just didn't get enough of "claim it - prosperity preaching" when our Joel Osteen thread ran its course, huh?

Just kidding. :lol This was an answered prayer to help you out of a circumstance from what I can tell. I thought you were going to say that He gave you the money to pay for the car to reward your faith with monetary prosperity.

I'm NOT getting back to Osteen! I just thought you were.

Hi

Well, my flesh had the upper hand, even though I was praying and praying. I believe that God honors anything you sow into His kingdom, be it time, talent or treasure. I sowed that seed kind of as a way to show God I was serious, that I really wanted to do right. I've also heard it said that "when you let go of what's in your hand, God lets go of what's in His." Again, this could be time, talent or treasure. And I believe this to be true. The bible says we will be blessed when we give, sometimes spiritually, sometimes financially. But I i know the seed had an impact because right after I did it, it was like I instantly had this strength in me, and just knewI was going to do the right thing. Before that my spirit was willing but my flesh was so weak, I didn't know if I could really do it or not. I SO WANTED to do right, but I didn't know if I had the strength. Now you or anyone else may judge me for that, but it's the truth. I felt I needed to do something more than just pray, I wanted to give. And God blessed me, gave me the strength I needed and worked it all out to my good. Now God may have done all this without the seed, I cannot say for sure. But I wanted to do give. I just wanted to give.

Ha ha ha :lol I believe this was the prosperity gospel in action. I was just trying to show that it can manifest in different ways. And btw, I think God may have given me the money to reward my faith, had I believed him for it, hee hee hee ;)

Thanks, i love you too :) I just happen to believe that if you stand on any of the promises God has made in His Word, and put your FAITH, not just your intellectual belief, but your FAITH, believing it will come to pass despite what your physical senses (flesh) are telling you, then God will perform it. God is not a man that He should lie. He will honor His children's faith, as long as it agrees with His Word. It saddens me that so many people do not understand this.

i wonder what she would say if it went the other way and she had to pay.
despite giving.

Well I certainly wouldn't be upset with God for it. Either way I would've done a good thing by sowing into His kingdom. It's kind of a win-win situation in that respect.

when i gave i dont want the blessings, i would rather see souls saved, though truthfully if it comes my way i wont refuse it.

i have seen some give and loose jobs the next day and not get work for a while. yet they dont lack, but are taken care of. they dont have all these things, but arent on the streets.

then why werent the apostles millionares and ruling the world? surely they had faith!

I will be the first to admit that I really don't have an answer to that question. I will have to meditate on it and see what comes up. It is a good question. It could be that different revelation is given to different people at different times for His purpose. Not to elevate men above the authority of scripture, but I believe there IS valid revelation outside of scripture, as long as it agrees with scripture. And although the apostles did not operate in prosperity (although we know next to nothing in scripture about the financial condition of any apostle besides Paul, who said he did know how to abound as well as be abased), there is much in scripture about material blessings, particularly in Psalms and Proverbs, which are not a part of the Law and did not pass away.

Yes, souls are very much a priority to me. Most of my giving is to ministries whose main focus is evangelism and to those who feed the poor. And again, I don't seek blessings, I seek the Face of God, and he just happens to bless me! A lot!

I think the real story here is that we must trust God in all situations and that we are blessed just in that act regardless.

There is a saying that goes; you can't out give or out love God. Try it and see.
