Many futurists and premillennialists believe this passage refers to the salvation of all of secular Israel in our modern times. They couldn't be any more wrong.

Christ is referring to the Passover in A.D. 70 during which Rome laid its final siege to Jerusalem and trapped observant international Jewry within its wall.

People would shout from the walls of Jerusalem, "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord" during the Passover in biblical times as witnessed in Matthew 21:9. This is taken from Psalm 118:26-27.

The house indeed was left desolate.

Look at how the Psalm 118:22-27 passage is neatly bookended by both Matthew 21:42-44 and Matthew 23:29-39?
