At least one has to be the strong one anyway. The breadwinner.
Often a mentally ill person can function well at a job but struggles in personal relationships or as a parent.
My brother is mentally ill . His wife isn't and runs a successful hairdressing salon. His forte is a gentleness with the kids. A calming influence at home. His strengths aren't as obvious as hers but the marriage works. I don't think it would work if they were both mentally ill. But I could be wrong.

I use to work in a group home for the mentally challenged as many are high functional and have jobs, but just need supervised in certain areas. Some have gone on to marry and even help raised a family. Everyone is at their own capacity of what they can or can not do and function quite well in society.

Wow, even though he is mentally ill he does a lot for his family. That is a good thing, it can also help him control and sustain his mental health issue, and help him have more control over it.
